Chapter 17

After that, David Harris's days became very peaceful. Although the looks from those people were strange whenever he came and went, fortunately, no one came to bother him.

Three days later, some custom-made items ordered by Grace Turner for the whole house were delivered. There were new shelves for medical books, various medical books—mostly commonly used ones—as well as some common medicines, an office desk for David Harris, and a simple rest bed. What made David Harris happiest was that Grace Turner quietly brought him some small items.

These were some modified exercise equipment. They looked like regular fitness gear, but all had been altered, and there were also some specially made weighted items for David Harris: knee pads, wrist guards, a belt, shoes... Now, unlike being in the jungle, apart from practicing the Embryonic Breathing Technique and the Profound Heaven Qi Strength, it was much harder for David Harris to train his body through combat. Being able to carry these weights anytime and anywhere was helpful for his training.

These items were very well designed. Altogether, David Harris put on about a hundred jin. He then put on his clothes to test it out. With his usual casual wear, nothing seemed out of the ordinary; only when the waist weights were added did the total weight reach one hundred and fifty jin, making his body look much bulkier. David Harris tried on his police uniform as well and found it acceptable—he just looked a lot more robust, but it wouldn’t be easy for others to notice anything hidden inside.

Just then, several gunshots rang out. In fact, with the doors closed inside the house, gunshots sounded a bit like firecrackers, but David Harris immediately noticed. Then came a few more very clear gunshots. A sharp glint flashed in David Harris's eyes—someone was exchanging fire. Was there a shootout inside the police station??

Thinking this, David Harris moved in a flash and darted out the door.

Chapter 8 Nina King Gets Shot

David Harris didn’t take the elevator; he used the stairs. Now that there was an elevator, the stairwell was just for emergencies. Even for one or two floors, people would take the elevator, so there was no one here. At David Harris’s current speed, taking the stairs was definitely faster than the elevator.

If he wasn’t worried about being too shocking, David Harris had an even faster way—he could jump straight out the window, cushion himself a few times, and rush in through the third-floor window. That would be even faster, but it just wasn’t appropriate.

“Hurry... hurry...”

“Seal off the entire area, and make sure this news doesn’t get out.”

“SWAT, get the SWAT team over here immediately...”

...As David Harris pushed open the door, people were running back and forth in the hallway, each holding a gun. At this moment, Mark Miller was giving instructions.

“Chief, someone inside is injured. Vice Captain White says immediate treatment is necessary. The wounded can’t be moved easily right now—get a doctor there as soon as possible.” Someone ran over to relay the message at the door.

Mark Miller shouted anxiously, “Where’s the doctor?”

Someone nearby wiped his sweat. “Chief, they’re already on the way, but the traffic is bad. It’ll take at least twenty minutes for them to get here.”

“What are you all doing? Have the traffic police arrange a car immediately and clear all the intersections around here for me. Make sure the medical team gets through. Also, armed police, SWAT—everyone must be here within fifteen minutes!” Mark Miller was truly anxious.

At this moment, someone came over, holding a phone pressed to the receiver and whispered, “Chief Miller, it’s a call from Director Dawson at the city bureau.”

Mark Miller frowned deeply. As he took the call, he looked at another deputy chief, John Mason, and said, “You supervise this personally. If any officer dies in the police station, you can prepare to resign with me.”

Deputy chief John Mason was sweating profusely, constantly asking about the situation inside. Someone reminded him, “Chief Mason, don’t we have a medical room on the sixteenth floor? Isn’t there a doctor up there? Maybe let him go first.”

As soon as John Mason heard this, his face turned red. “Do you know what time it is? This is a matter of life and death! I need a doctor, a real doctor, do you understand?”

“Yes, yes...” The subordinate, feeling awkward, nodded in agreement, thinking, Well, you figure it out yourself then.

A gunfight had broken out inside the police station, and judging by everyone’s expressions and their conversations, it turned out that a prisoner named Jason Scott who had been arrested had actually taken many other detainees hostage inside, and there were injured police officers. David Harris shook his head slightly after hearing this. Causing trouble in your own base—what quality!

Since everyone was saying so, he didn’t see himself as a savior. Even if he went over now, they probably wouldn’t let him in. With this in mind, David Harris turned to leave.

“Chief, bad news! Captain White says Nina King is already showing symptoms of excessive blood loss. If we don’t hurry...”

David Harris didn’t hear the rest. When he heard the name Nina King, he stopped in his tracks. He remembered the day he reported in—the beautiful and outstanding woman.

“Hey, handsome, do you have a girlfriend? If not, you can consider this big sister!!”
