Chapter 15

Other than being slow, the Embryonic Breathing Technique is also time-consuming. After practicing for a while, more than a dozen hours had passed in a flash. Unconsciously, David Harris had already spent his first night of cohabitation in cultivation.

In the early morning, Julia Reed's door slowly, very slowly, opened. First, a small crack appeared, and Julia Reed cautiously peeked outside. There was no sound at all. In fact, she hadn't slept very soundly the whole night. Although she knew rationally that David Harris wouldn't do anything, after all, she was sharing an apartment with a strange man. Especially after yesterday, David Harris's domineering and irresistible strength left a deep impression on her. Besides gratitude, she also felt a bit more worried. With only two doors between them, she couldn't help but think about it, so Julia Reed looked a bit tired, with a trace of bloodshot in her eyes from lack of sleep.

She glanced around and saw that there was no movement from David Harris's room. Julia Reed quickly walked out. Her foot was now completely healed. She carefully opened the door, then gently closed it behind her. After stepping outside, she couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. What was she doing, sneaking around like a thief? If that wild girl Nancy Walker found out, who knows how she would mock her. As she thought about this, another issue came to Julia Reed's mind. Although the apartment was very clean when she moved in and she had tidied up for quite a while, now that the two of them were going to be roommates, there were still some things that needed to be clarified. Hmm, she should find a chance to talk to him. Julia Reed definitely didn't want her room to become a mess.

As Julia Reed left the apartment, David Harris pushed open his door and came out of his room. Thinking of how Julia Reed had just acted like a startled little rabbit, David Harris couldn't help but feel amused. He had never experienced something so interesting before. With this in mind, David Harris walked over to the small balcony in the kitchen. Looking down from there, he could see Julia Reed just leaving the building. She stood at the entrance, took a deep breath, and then walked out with great composure.

David Harris had breakfast at a place called Lukang Town not far from the Anyang sub-bureau. As a result, he attracted quite a bit of attention, because after cultivating for more than ten hours, David Harris had consumed a lot of energy and naturally ate more than usual. For many people, coming here was considered high-end consumption, a place for the petty bourgeoisie, so seeing David Harris eat as if he were at a street food stall, some found it strange, some looked down on him, but most were envious.

David Harris himself was speechless. He thought to himself, I've fallen so far that I have to eat in a place like this, and yet these people look at me with envy. They really don't care about my feelings at all.

So David Harris just ate a little, though his "little" was still more than what seven or eight young men would eat. Then he hurried to the Anyang sub-bureau. Today was his first day as a medical officer.

Chapter 7 Public Outrage

Although he had met Mark Miller yesterday, there were still many things to do today—filling out forms at the personnel department and handling other procedures. David Harris was busy all morning before finally finishing everything, and he also received the key to the infirmary.

Ever since the former director Eric Beard had an accident, the infirmary had been closed. When people found out that David Harris was the new medical officer, their expressions were all extremely odd. As soon as David Harris left, they immediately started making phone calls and gossiping. In less than half an hour, a new explosive piece of news spread throughout the Anyang sub-bureau: the unique medical officer position that had brought shame to the entire bureau had been filled again. But this time, it wasn't a beautiful woman, but a male medical officer directly assigned from above.

The infirmary was in a pretty good location, on the sixteenth floor of the Anyang sub-bureau. This floor had a large auditorium, a big conference room, and two small meeting rooms. The infirmary was converted from one of the small meeting rooms.

David Harris pushed open the door and went in. The breeze from the door immediately stirred up a cloud of dust. This place had long been neglected, avoided like the plague. Since the new director hadn't been appointed yet, no changes or renovations had been made.

The area was over a hundred square meters. Outside were two desks, and inside was a small office. Around the room were shelves with common medicines, but they were all covered in dust.

David Harris didn't mind the dust. He had hidden in swamps in the jungle before. The key thing was that it was quiet here, which David Harris liked very much. It was just a bit dirty. David Harris walked over to the phone and glanced at the extension numbers written on the wall. There was a number for logistics.

David Harris dialed the extension. After just two rings, a pleasant voice answered, "Hello, this is logistics."

"It's a bit dirty here. Please send a cleaner over to tidy up." As David Harris spoke, he looked around again. For a space meant for three people, it was really big, but there wasn't much equipment.

"Okay, may I ask where you are?"

"The infirmary."

"……" There was silence for a full thirty seconds, then—"buzz..."—the busy tone sounded. The other party had actually hung up on him.
