Chapter 15

In the next segment, the audience can make another round of recommendations, but it’s obvious that this time all the focus is on “FlappyBird” and “Hunter Island.”

The other games have no chance of surpassing “FlappyBird”; the key now is to see how many recommendations “Hunter Island” can get in this final round.

The audience is also hesitating.

“Which one are you voting for?”

“I think William Clark makes a good point. Isn’t ‘FlappyBird’ a bit too simple? Does it really deserve to be the champion?”

“So you’re voting for ‘Hunter Island’?”

“Sigh, it’s hard to say. Although I feel ‘Hunter Island’ was made with more care, it’s just not as fun as ‘FlappyBird.’”

“Then what are you hesitating for? Brian Cooper also made a good point. Anyway, I’m voting for ‘FlappyBird.’”

“Then I’ll vote for ‘FlappyBird’ too.”

“Go ahead, vote, don’t let me suffer alone.”

Very soon, the new round of data was released.

“FlappyBird” received 1,037 recommendations!

“Hunter Island” received 537 recommendations!

For “Hunter Island” to surpass “FlappyBird,” it would need 128 more recommendations to have a shot at first place, which is clearly impossible now.

Moreover, “FlappyBird” gained nearly 500 recommendations in the second round, basically crushing the competition!

The host said, “Alright, the final results are in. According to the rules, ‘FlappyBird’ has already proven the audience’s love for it by ranking first in both playtime and recommendations. However, next, we still need to hear the opinions of the three judges. If all three judges unanimously believe it shouldn’t win first place, then unfortunately, we’ll have to disqualify it.”

“Judges, what are your opinions?”

The host looked at the three judges.

William Clark and Henry Green didn’t say anything.

To veto this game, all three judges would have to unanimously oppose it, and Brian Cooper’s stance was already very clear. Even if William Clark and Henry Green objected, it wouldn’t matter, so they sensibly kept quiet.

Brian Cooper took the microphone: “I acknowledge this game. I believe it truly deserves to win first place in this game design competition.”

The host nodded, “Alright! Then the first prize of this game design competition goes to the work of Designer No. 7, ‘FlappyBird’!”

“Next, please invite Designer No. 7 to come on stage to receive the award. You will receive 300,000 yuan in development funding from the organizers, a D-level game designer qualification, and your own exclusive experience store. Congratulations!”

Adam Brooks stood up from his seat and walked toward the stage.

The audience and contestants were all watching, wanting to see what kind of person created such a crazy game.

Probably half the audience wanted to grab Adam Brooks by the hair and ask, “Do you have antisocial personality disorder? Why did you develop such a masochistic game? Why!”

Of course, that was just in their imagination.

To everyone’s surprise, Adam Brooks’s reaction was very calm, without any expression of wild joy, as if he had already expected this outcome.

For him, going on stage to receive the award seemed like just a formality.

“Congratulations.”

The host shook hands with Adam Brooks, then handed the competition trophy to Adam Brooks.

“After you step off the stage, staff will contact you to transfer the prize money to your account. As for the experience store, please discuss the specific handover details with the staff.”

Adam Brooks nodded.

The host announced loudly, “Now, let’s give another round of warm applause to Designer No. 7, Adam Brooks!”

The audience erupted in thunderous applause, and the reporters’ camera flashes went off nonstop. Holding the trophy, Adam Brooks cooperatively put on a polite smile.

Just then, a voice rang out.

“Ahem, host, I’d like to say a few more words, if I may?”

The host was taken aback and turned to see that it was William Clark speaking.

What did this mean?

The host hesitated for a moment. According to the schedule, the competition was already over, and the commentary was finished—what else was there to say?

But since William Clark had spoken up, there was no reason not to let him speak, so the host nodded, “Of course, go ahead.”

The applause gradually died down, and the audience was also a bit puzzled about what William Clark wanted to say.

William Clark cleared his throat and said to Adam Brooks, “First of all, congratulations on winning first place.”

Adam Brooks nodded, “Thank you.”

William Clark continued, “As someone with experience, I’d like to share some advice with you. Would you like to hear it?”

Adam Brooks smiled and nodded, “Please go ahead.”

William Clark said, “I think, young man, your ideas are indeed very unique, and your approach to game design is also different from the rest, which is impressive. However, having ideas alone isn’t enough to make games. In fact, having too many ideas can sometimes trip you up.”

“When making games, you still need to be down-to-earth and practical. Relying on loopholes to make games might make you popular for a while, but it won’t last forever.”

“Take your game, for example. I still hold the same view: you didn’t actually bring any real emotion or joy to the audience. Instead, you kept them playing by provoking their negative emotions, and that’s something I really disapprove of.”
