Chapter 17

Just now, Adam Brooks spoke confidently on stage, his words flowing smoothly and his thoughts clear—how could he possibly be a novice game designer? He was even more fluent than some of the seasoned veterans who have hosted countless press conferences!

Moreover, the way Adam Brooks looked at William Clark—calling it “the look of caring for a fool” might be a bit much, but it was basically like an adult watching a child throwing a tantrum.

This left Brian Cooper quite shocked. He was surprised to realize that this guy seemed to have more depth than he’d imagined.

Brian Cooper stood up directly and followed Adam Brooks off the stage.

……

As for how the host would clean up the mess, Adam Brooks couldn’t care less. After all, he had already secured first place and gotten everything he wanted.

As soon as he stepped off the stage, Brian Cooper followed him.

“Mr. Adam Brooks.” Brian Cooper approached Adam Brooks.

Adam Brooks was a bit surprised. “Hello, is there something you need?”

Brian Cooper said, “Here’s the thing—I really admire your work and wanted to ask if you’d be willing to join Hengyou Network as my assistant. Of course, the compensation would be excellent.”

Adam Brooks shook his head. “I appreciate your offer, but I have my own plans.”

Brian Cooper nodded. He understood the subtext in Adam Brooks’s words. Clearly, someone like this was unlikely to work under someone else; he was bound to start his own company and develop his own games.

“All right, then I wish you all the best. I hope we’ll have a chance to work together in the future,” Brian Cooper said.

Adam Brooks nodded. “Sure, I hope we’ll have a chance to collaborate in the future.”

The two shook hands. Brian Cooper didn’t say much more; they exchanged contact information and then parted ways.

For others, this might have been a very tempting offer, but for Adam Brooks, it held no appeal.

Even if the CEO of a giant like Dichaohuyu personally invited him to be the chief designer, he wouldn’t go. Working under someone else always means being constrained, and Adam Brooks didn’t like having anyone holding him back when designing games.

Soon, Adam Brooks found the staff member for this competition.

The staff member said, “We’ve already recorded your account information. The 300,000 yuan in development funds should be transferred to your account within two to three business days. Please remember to check for it.”

“In addition, here’s the key to the experience store. Please note down the address as well. When the time comes, a dedicated staff member will come to help you set things up. If you have any questions, just call me. As for how you want to arrange the place, you’re free to decide, but the budget is limited. We can discuss the details later.”

Adam Brooks nodded. “Okay, I understand. Thank you.”

Everything after that was just a formality. Once the handover was complete, Adam Brooks took a cab and left the competition venue.

It was too hot, and Adam Brooks was still wearing formal clothes. Just thinking about squeezing onto a bus or subway was a pain, and since he’d just received a 300,000 yuan prize, he decided to splurge a little!

There wasn’t much traffic, and about half an hour later, Adam Brooks returned to the hotel where he’d been staying.

Back in his room, Adam Brooks took off his formal wear, changed into a T-shirt and shorts, and started packing his luggage.

Adam Brooks’s place in the Imperial Capital was outside the Fifth Ring Road, quite far from here, and even the subway ride took nearly an hour. There was no helping it—rent in the Imperial Capital was too expensive, and he couldn’t afford a place near the Third Ring.

However, now that he had the experience store, Adam Brooks could give up his old rental.

He didn’t have much luggage; one suitcase was enough, and he even managed to fit his laptop in there. Adam Brooks checked out of the hotel with his suitcase and took a cab straight to the experience store, planning to check out the place first.

Chapter 12: The Experience Store

The experience store was located in the northeast of the Imperial Capital, near the Fourth Ring Road, next to a mid-to-high-end residential community. The location was a bit out of the way, but the upside was that it was pretty quiet and not too noisy.

Adam Brooks got out of the taxi and dragged his suitcase to the entrance of the experience store.

The experience store was a two-story shop, not very large, with no sign outside and the door locked. Adam Brooks unlocked the door and dragged his suitcase inside.

It was actually quite spacious inside. Each floor was over 200 square meters, and there were already some sofas and other furniture set up.

“Pretty spacious.”

Adam Brooks was a bit surprised. He’d thought the experience store would be impressive if it was over 100 square meters, but he hadn’t expected it to be this big.

At 200 square meters, if you set it up like a regular internet café (not a VR café), you could fit 30 to 40 computers. The extra space could be used for sofas, plants, vending machines, and so on.

Basically, the first floor was set up like an internet café for players to try out games, while the second floor was the designer’s studio and lounge.

At the moment, the first floor was still mostly empty, since different designers had different layout plans. Some designers focused on developing VR games and needed to set up VR gaming pods on the first floor, so the organizers had to discuss with the designers before making a decision.

The renovations were all fine, and it was very clean—Adam Brooks was quite satisfied.

Upstairs, it was all the designer’s personal space.

In the designer’s studio, there was a standard VR gaming pod, a high-end computer, and various brands of smartphones. In addition, there was a professional computer for game design, with the game editor already installed.
