Part 1, Episode 1: Titled "Biohazard"
Chapter One: Awakening
Brian Carter always felt like he was dead in reality—going to work, getting off work, eating, excreting, sleeping, waking up. He didn't know what his purpose was; it certainly wasn't in the greasy, smiling face of his boss, nor in the so-called white-collar women he met at bars, and definitely not in this endless steel jungle—the modern city.
Brian Carter felt like he was rotting away, decaying from age twenty-four until old age, then turning into dirt and becoming just a name. No, not even a name would remain, because no one would remember you. No one remembers a minor white-collar worker, whether he is truly refined or just pretending to be cultured—he is nothing but a speck of dust in this world.
He wanted to change something. He wanted to have his own meaning...
"Do you want to understand the meaning of life? Do you truly want... to live?"
Today, when Brian Carter turned on his computer at work, this sentence suddenly popped up on the screen. It was clearly some immature hacker's little trick to attract attention. Whether you chose yes or no, the result would be downloading a virus. Brian Carter sneered and was about to close it, but as his finger touched the mouse, a strange sense of unease made him stop.
"Do you want to understand the meaning of life? Do you truly want... to live?"
Brian Carter felt a wave of confusion. An indescribable attraction made him place his finger on the left mouse button, and then he gently clicked YES. In an instant, he lost consciousness...
Coldness, shaking...
The moment he woke up, Brian Carter suddenly jumped up from the ground. He looked around in panic, the office environment in his mind clashing with the scene before his eyes, but after a few seconds, he snapped out of the confusion.
"Not bad, you're the most composed one among the newcomers this time." A cold voice sounded.
Brian Carter turned his head and saw a young man with black hair staring at him with a sneer. The young man looked about twenty-four or twenty-five, extremely ordinary in appearance, but several scars ran across his face, making him look quite fierce and terrifying.
The black-haired youth held a cigarette in his hand. He took a deep drag, then looked past Brian Carter toward something behind him. Only then did Brian Carter notice that there were five other people lying nearby—three men and two women. Besides them, there were also more than a dozen foreigners in this enclosed space.
This was a train car in motion, and it was moving very fast. The cold and the shaking were sensations coming from the car itself.
"Where is this place? Who are you people? Why am I here?" Brian Carter asked these people repeatedly, and since there were foreigners present, he deliberately used English.
Those foreigners glanced at him and then turned away. Only the black-haired youth took a deep breath and said, "Think carefully. It should have already implanted all of this into your mind."
Think carefully? Brian Carter began to recall everything in his mind. He only remembered that when he saw the pop-up message "Do you want to understand the meaning of life? Do you truly want... to live?" he clicked YES on the computer screen, and then he lost consciousness...
Wait, Brian Carter suddenly felt that something new had appeared in his mind—survival and life...
This is a game. Who created this game is no longer important—maybe gods, maybe demons, maybe aliens or humans from the future. In any case, he is a participant in this game, or rather, he has now become a participant in this game.
When someone in the city who feels lost and decaying is given a choice, once they choose this game, they are sent into the scenarios of various horror movies.
"This time it's Resident Evil 1. Rookies, you guys are really lucky. Your first time here and you get such an easy horror movie. Even if you die, it should be an easy death." The black-haired youth took a final deep drag on his cigarette, then crushed the butt hard in his palm.
"You mean, our consciousness has just entered the computer, like in a fantasy novel? As long as we finish this game, our consciousness will return to our bodies, and we'll come back to life?" A chubby guy sitting on the ground next to Brian Carter asked.
