Brian Carter and Michael Bolton exchanged a glance with the others; they also understood the meaning of the three-hour countdown on their watches. They had to survive until the main door was sealed. Before that, they couldn't be scratched or bitten, couldn't face too many zombies at once, and the Lickers would be their mortal enemies. The power of a single Desert Eagle wasn't enough to fight such terrifying monsters.
Ryan let go of Kaplan, but he looked even more panicked. He shouted, "No, they can't do this! Are they planning to bury us alive down here?"
The long-haired female mercenary whose hand had been bitten, Wayne, said, "To protect the research secrets from leaking, this is the safest way... If we're all dead, there's no one left to leak anything." As she finished, she frowned and squeezed her palm; the wound was still bleeding profusely.
Everyone fell silent. Ryan calmed down a little, but he grew even angrier and said, "They only tell us these things when we're already half a mile underground? Why didn't they tell us earlier?"
The mercenaries all hung their heads in silence. Suddenly, Alice spoke up: "Stop arguing and think about how to get out! We have to find an exit and leave this room!" With that, she picked up the bag containing the Red Queen's motherboard from the table and turned to head toward the control room.
Matthew Addison quickly asked, "What are you going to do with the motherboard?"
"Of course, I'm going to reboot it!"
Watching the mercenaries and the main characters gradually walk away, Brian Carter looked at Michael Bolton, who was smoking with his eyes closed, and said, "Aren't you going in to take a look?"
Michael Bolton sneered, "What's there to see? It's not like I haven't seen the movie before. Instead of wasting energy watching the plot, it's better to save my strength here and kill more zombies later. That's more worthwhile."
Laura James suddenly touched her forehead and said, "Oh right, Michael Bolton, I have a question for you."
Michael Bolton nodded for her to go ahead. Laura James smiled and said, "How do we get back to the 'God' place? Does a beam of light fall from the sky? Or do we gradually disappear, or does a space portal suddenly appear for us to go through?"
Michael Bolton said, "I don't know how we get back either. Anyway, every time, either the mission is completed or the time runs out, and the next second, I just appear in the 'God' hall. So you don't have to worry about not being able to return for whatever reason. As long as you survive, that's enough. Oh, and even if you're infected with the T-virus or something else, as long as you still have your consciousness when you return to the 'God' place, all the viruses and whatever else in your body will disappear. Likewise, if you lose a limb in a horror movie, you can repair it with just ten reward points."
Laura James suddenly frowned and asked carefully, "You just mentioned missions, right?"
Michael Bolton grinned viciously, "Of course. I said we're just struggling to survive like bugs. Who knows what kind of special requirements will pop up? For example, when you first arrived here, you couldn't be more than a hundred meters away from the plot characters—that's a special mission. My last horror movie was disgusting... but let's not talk about that. Anyway, that's how it is. We might also have to complete some special missions in horror movies, making it even harder for us to survive."
Laura James sighed and said, "This is bad. I was thinking... never mind, just pretend I didn't say anything."
Michael Bolton was taken aback and asked, "What were you planning to do? Tell us."
Brian Carter suddenly had a thought and said, "You mean, you want us to stay here and not leave, right?"
Laura James was momentarily surprised, then grinned at Brian Carter and said, "That's right, that was my plan. Anyway, Michael Bolton, you said we leave here in an instant. In other words, we can leave from anywhere as long as we survive until the time is up, right? So why don't we just stay here? I remember in the plot, they go into the sewers after entering the control room, then cross a dangerous suspended passage, and almost get killed by the Licker because of infighting. Even after getting on the train, they're still not completely safe. But what about here?"
Brian Carter and Michael Bolton exchanged a glance, both seeing the surprise in each other's eyes. They hadn't expected this woman to be so quick-witted. Michael Bolton still asked seriously, "You mean you're afraid the 'God' will give us another mission soon? Like showing a name and making us stay within a hundred meters of that person? If that happens, we're doomed. Is that why you said this is bad?"
Laura James nodded and said, "Yeah, if it weren't for that, staying here would be the safest option."
Michael Bolton took a deep drag on his cigarette and thought for a moment, then said, "Fine, we'll stay here. The 'God' shouldn't give us a mission that guarantees our death. In other words, it's impossible for it to show a name for us to follow after these mercenaries have already gone far away. If that happened, we'd be dead for sure. Since we've decided, let's do it! We'll stay here!"
