Kaplan kept pressing on the keyboard. This time, the entrance door didn’t close again, and the heroine Alice followed in just like in the plot. Then, the door leading to the Red Queen’s central computer room closed once more. Brian Carter and the others exchanged glances—they knew that next, they would have to face the main theme of Resident Evil: zombies!
Laura James whispered to Brian Carter and the other two, “Don’t stray too far from Michael Bolton, and absolutely don’t get bitten or scratched by zombies. In the movie, as long as you’re infected by the T-virus, you’ll turn into a zombie within thirty minutes. When I watched this movie before, I did a calculation—if you inject the antidote within about ten minutes, it’s effective. Remember, don’t leave Michael Bolton’s side. Since he’s survived three horror movies, he should be able to survive this one too.”
Brian Carter and David Thompson both nodded. Laura James suddenly smiled and said, “By the way, do you guys feel sick when you kill someone?”
David Thompson spoke first: “When I first got here, I felt really sick, and I wasn’t used to the atmosphere. But after throwing up just now, my chest feels much better. If I close my eyes, I think I could kill someone.”
Brian Carter thought about it. He also felt much better after vomiting earlier, and he had just experienced a life-and-death moment himself. At this point, he no longer felt the sense of unreality he had when he first arrived in this world. He felt he was gradually blending into this horror movie. As long as he could survive, killing people, killing monsters—he was willing to do it all!
Laura James continued, “Alright, then let’s look for a chance to pick up their guns later. If you see a zombie alone, try to kill it—these are all reward points! Remember, the head! That’s the zombie’s weak spot!”
As she spoke, the lights in the entire room suddenly dimmed. They knew that Matthew Addison had already shut down the central computer. At the same time, the central computer’s defense system, which had been keeping the zombies and Lickers separated, instantly failed. The entire lab would now become the world of these two monsters. After suffering through the pain of the previous plot changes, this time, none of Brian Carter and the others dared to alter the storyline, so they could only watch helplessly as the central computer was shut down. Next, they would have to face death head-on.
In the darkness, Brian Carter felt David Thompson beside him trembling nonstop, and even Laura James was shaking slightly. He couldn’t help but whisper, “Are you scared?”
David Thompson replied, “Yeah, really scared.”
But Laura James said, “I’m just too excited…”
Brian Carter suddenly felt that this woman was kind of terrifying, so he didn’t dare ask more. He just looked up at the light source, silently waiting for what was to come.
A few dozen seconds later, the whole room lit up again. Brian Carter knew—it had begun!
Matthew Addison and the heroine walked out of the central computer room. The Black mercenary looked utterly exhausted at this moment. After glancing at the bodies in the corridor, he said, “There’s no way to settle them for now. Let’s take the Red Queen’s motherboard back to the company first. Kaplan, what’s the situation in the Hive?”
Kaplan tapped a few keys on the computer and said, “Very good. All defense systems are shut down. We can swagger straight out of the Hive.”
Matthew Addison nodded. “Good, then now we…”
Before he could finish, a burst of gunfire suddenly came from the direction of “Cafeteria B.” Matthew Addison and Kaplan exchanged glances, grabbed their guns, and rushed out. The heroine Alice and the other two main characters followed, and Brian Carter’s group of three also exchanged glances and followed right behind them.
When Brian Carter and the others reached “Cafeteria B,” he paid special attention to the containers holding the Lickers. Yes, the green lights on the containers had all turned red—this meant the Lickers’ freezing had failed. Just thinking about the terrifying number of Lickers made Brian Carter feel a chill in his heart. The sheer number of Lickers here was absolutely not something humans could fight against.
When everyone reached the entrance of “Cafeteria B,” the long-haired female mercenary Rain was standing there cursing, clutching her hand. Matthew Addison asked, “What happened? I heard gunshots.”
A large chunk of flesh was missing between Rain’s thumb and index finger, blood streaming down and looking horrifying. She gritted her teeth and said, “Sir, we found a survivor, but he’d already gone mad—he bit me…”
Matthew Addison frowned. “So you shot him?”
Rain answered loudly, “Sir, but he’d already gone mad!”
“He’s gone!”
Michael Bolton’s voice suddenly came over. He looked at the pool of blood on the ground and said calmly, “He was just here, but now he’s disappeared.”
Matthew Addison walked over to the bloodstain and looked at it twice. The blood was already half-dried and viscous—definitely not fresh from the body. He had a bad feeling in his heart. After standing up, Matthew Addison said loudly, “We’re leaving the Hive immediately!”
Rain asked in surprise, “Sir? Weren’t our orders to secure the Red Queen’s motherboard and then stand guard here, waiting for the backup team?”
Matthew Addison shook his head with a bitter smile. “There’s no backup team anymore… Get ready to leave!”
