Chapter 5

The young man felt bored when Ryan Bennett ignored him.

The wooden door of the clock shop creaked open. In the dim, yellowish light, a female priest in a white robe and a female mage in a fiery red robe walked in from outside. The priest in white was beautiful and graceful, gentle and serene, with black hair cascading down her back. Her bangs were tied into two strands that hung on either side of her forehead, adding a touch of elegance to her demeanor. The white priest’s robe was pure and dignified, making her look like a saint, as tranquil as water.

If she could be compared to water, then the mage beside her was a ball of fire. Dressed in a blazing red robe, her hot figure was impossible to hide. Her pretty face was as exquisite as fine jade, with elegant brows, a delicate nose, and slightly upturned lips that hinted at countless charms. Her expression was both playful and joyful, beautiful and lively.

The two girls were simply masterpieces of God.

“Oh, heavens, are they angels?” The bald old ghost looked at the two girls and exclaimed exaggeratedly.

The young man was stunned for a moment at the sight of the two stunning beauties, a trace of infatuation flashing in his eyes. He hurried over and flattered them, saying, “Grace Miller, Amber Miller, what brings you here? Aren’t you with Mr. Carter?”

The young man’s behavior made the priestess called Grace Miller frown slightly. Grace Miller’s expression remained calm, and she didn’t refute him: “We’re leaving in half an hour. The target is the Bloodscale in Zangarmarsh. Mr. Carter asked me to inform you.”

If Ryan Bennett knew that the priestess before him was Grace Miller, ranked second on the server, he might not have been so stingy with his attention. But at this moment, Ryan Bennett was already captivated by an ancient rune outside the secret compartment of the wall clock.

A tier-five rune lock—familiarity with various runes was a required course in engineering. Ryan Bennett’s understanding of rune locks was limited to their structure; after all, his engineering hadn’t even reached intermediate level, so he only recognized rune locks and wasn’t familiar with them. Moreover, rune locks came in countless variations, and unlocking one was extremely difficult, especially since a tier-five rune lock was already beyond Ryan Bennett’s capabilities.

Ryan Bennett calculated according to various basic engineering theories, trying to guess the method to crack this rune lock.

Volume One: The Legendary Prelude

Chapter Four: Heart of the Titan

Ryan Bennett stared intently at the wall clock. The mage in the fiery red robe, Amber Miller, couldn’t help but feel curious—what exactly had caught Ryan Bennett’s attention?

“Ethan Carter, remember, gather at the Vejin Cathedral in thirty minutes. Amber Miller, let’s go. Amber Miller?” Grace Miller had just taken a step when she noticed Amber Miller still standing there in a daze, feeling a bit puzzled—what was going on with Amber Miller? Following Amber Miller’s gaze, she saw Ryan Bennett fiddling with the wall clock by the counter.

“Ah, oh, let’s go.” Amber Miller finally snapped out of it, feeling a bit embarrassed by her lapse. Did her sister see everything just now?

Grace Miller glanced at Amber Miller with a strange look, a peculiar feeling rising in her heart, and a hint of a smile at the corner of her mouth. Could this little girl be lovestruck?

Seeing Grace Miller’s odd expression, Amber Miller immediately blushed, her face burning, and she stomped her foot, pouting, “Sister, let’s hurry up and go.”

As Amber Miller spoke, she wondered to herself, what exactly was so fascinating to Ryan Bennett? Amber Miller was a bit curious—could he be a nerd who only knew how to study all day?

Every expression and movement of Grace Miller and Amber Miller was caught by Ethan Carter’s eyes. He really couldn’t figure out what was so noteworthy about a clock repairman fiddling with a wall clock.

Ethan Carter glanced sidelong at the still-focused Ryan Bennett and sneered, “The quality of newbies these days is getting worse and worse—they can’t even fix a clock. The server’s been open for over a month and he’s still only level one. There’s nothing to see here, let’s go.”

Ethan Carter’s sarcastic words made both Grace Miller and Amber Miller feel a bit disgusted, but Ethan Carter was oblivious and continued to criticize Ryan Bennett.

Ryan Bennett didn’t hear a thing. Carefully, he used his engraving knife to carve the final line onto the rune lock. In an instant, blue light flowed across the rune lock, converging into a blue pathway.

Ryan Bennett was delighted—he’d succeeded. The rune lock slowly opened.

With a ding, the system chimed pleasantly.

System: You have gained 10 points of Engineering skill proficiency.

System: Your Engineering has advanced to Intermediate.

Intermediate Engineering, skill proficiency: 57/150

After more than a month, Engineering had finally reached Intermediate! Ryan Bennett was extremely excited, but his hands didn’t stop as he slowly opened the lid of the secret compartment. The contents of the compartment were no less attractive to Ryan Bennett than a stunning beauty in revealing clothes.

A brilliant blue light flared as a blue gem floated quietly inside the compartment. The blue gemstone was sharply faceted, emitting a dazzling blue glow.

Heart of the Titan: Special gemstone, tier-three treasure, attributes unidentified. Can be used for jewelry crafting, forging, engineering.

Ryan Bennett’s eyelids twitched wildly—it was actually an epic-level gem! So far, not a single treasure-grade material had appeared on the server, not even a rare tier-four item, let alone a tier-three treasure.
