The headhunter was slightly surprised. Logically, a rogue shouldn’t die in the wild—if they encounter a high-level player, they can just stealth and escape; if it’s someone of equal or lower level, with Hunter Carter’s full set of blue gear and instant-heal potions, he should be the one killing others, not the other way around. Reaper Carter opened his mouth, wanting to ask what level the opponent was, but after opening his mouth, he didn’t ask.
“It was a level six warlock.” Hunter Carter saw the doubt in Reaper Carter’s heart and answered frankly.
Reaper Carter opened his mouth in shock—this was unbelievable. Was it a sneak attack? That shouldn’t be possible either; if a rogue is attacked, they can immediately use Sprint and vanish, so how could anyone catch him? Besides, he knew Hunter Carter’s skills—his operations were good enough to rank among the top players. If he hadn’t started the game late, he’d at least be a top-tier player. Yet he was killed by a warlock one level lower than himself—this was just too incredible.
Hunter Carter didn’t offer any explanation. There was no need to explain such things—a loss is a loss. A cold glint flashed in his eyes; if he met that person again, he would definitely redeem himself. Ryan Bennett, Hunter Carter silently recited the name in his heart. A warlock who could use spells from three schools—interesting.
Volume One: The Legendary Debut
Chapter Twelve: The First Team-Up
Ryan Bennett was collecting zombie skulls. He finally gathered forty skulls and leveled up to seven. Ryan Bennett planned to grind a bit more here before using a town portal scroll to return.
In the endless wasteland, the sun was an eternal blackness, like a terrible curse. The ground was crawling with hideous zombies, making one’s skin crawl.
Ryan Bennett searched everywhere for traces of zombies, turning these terrifying undead into his own experience points.
As Ryan Bennett walked past a low slope, a foul stench drifted over from the distance, making him sneeze twice in a row. Ryan Bennett walked toward the source. It was a gloomy cave, its entrance piled high with rotting corpses, the muddy ground flowing with foul-smelling blood, and the deep cave leading who knows where.
Maggot Cave!
The monsters that spawn inside caves are usually higher level than those outside. Without two or three people teaming up, it’s very dangerous. But the loot inside is also of higher quality than outside, and blue or green gear drops are common; with luck, even purple gear might appear.
Ryan Bennett hesitated—should he go in and take a look? If he could get one or two pieces of blue or green gear with good stats that he could use, it would be a huge help for leveling up.
He cleared out all the zombies outside the Maggot Cave, but aside from a few gold coins, Ryan Bennett gained nothing.
Roar! A roar came from the distance, startling Ryan Bennett. The sound didn’t seem like a monster’s—could it be another player from the Evil Alliance? Ryan Bennett quickly hid himself.
Bear King’s Roar!
It was a giant bear about two meters tall, covered in shaggy brown fur, looking imposing and powerful. The giant bear swung its massive paw, sending a zombie staggering backward.
Cheap Shot!
A rogue suddenly appeared behind the zombie, stabbing a dagger hard into the back of its head, causing the zombie to fall into a stunned state.
Eviscerate!
The rogue’s dagger slashed deeply across the zombie’s back, leaving a wound so deep the bone was visible.
At that moment, the giant bear’s paw was raised high and sent the zombie flying. The zombie fell to the ground with a thud.
Heal!
A white light fell on the giant bear, restoring its health to full.
“Xiaoyu, how many times have I told you, you need to heal during the fight. If you wait until the fight is over, isn’t that just wasting mana?” The bear’s deep voice sounded, reproachful.
“Got it.” The female priest in a white robe kept nervously twisting her robe with her slender fingers. She was quite pretty, delicate and frail, with a timid expression that made people feel protective.
Seeing the priest like this, the bear shook his head and sighed.
The rogue in white leather armor hurried over to smooth things over: “Big bro, our little sister just started playing the game, don’t be too hard on her.”
“You’re the one who spoils her. Look at her now—so timid and afraid of everything, she won’t even talk to anyone. I think we’ve spoiled her rotten.” The bear walked toward where Ryan Bennett was hiding. “We’re almost at the Maggot Cave, let’s go.”
The gruesome scene around them made the priest’s pretty face a bit pale. She bit her lip lightly and followed.
The three players walked toward Ryan Bennett. Since they were from the Angel Alliance, and there was no grudge between them, players of the same faction rarely fought each other. Anyone who attacked first would be severely punished, so Ryan Bennett didn’t have to worry about them attacking him.
Ryan Bennett kept fighting monsters while watching them. Judging by their actions, they were planning to enter the Maggot Cave. Ryan Bennett hesitated for a moment—since someone else was going in, to avoid any misunderstanding, it was better for him to leave. As a magic class player, entering such a cramped cave was very dangerous.
Ryan Bennett picked up the silver coins dropped by the zombies on the ground and was about to leave.
