Chapter 13

Ryan Bennett's entire body erupted with energy, causing the skeleton soldier's speed to slow down.

Repulsion Aura!

The skeleton soldier was pushed far away by a white aura. Warlocks are a magic class known for their control spells. Their control magic is derived from that of mages, but because warlocks specialize in mental power and lack affinity with the elements, their magic is stronger in control effects but weaker in damage output. Skills like Explosion Spell and Repulsion Aura are typical warlock control abilities.

By the time the skeleton soldier recovered, the cooldowns for Ryan Bennett's other spells had already ended.

Shadow Bolt!

Searing Pain!

Twelve seconds later, the battle was over. The skeleton soldier collapsed to the ground, dropping a few silver coins for Ryan Bennett. One hundred silver coins equal one gold coin, so this amount of money is nothing to a master miner, but for Ryan Bennett, it was significant—this was the first time he had ever gotten money from a monster drop.

Not even a scratch, and he killed a skeleton soldier—was this the power of having so many skills? Cultivating three schools at once is truly powerful. If he could ever bring along a mechanical golem, Adam Bennett could hardly imagine how high his combined spell damage with the mechanical imp could get.

Ryan Bennett checked his experience points—up to 32%. Just a few more skeleton soldiers and he would level up.

Ryan Bennett sat down, drank some spring water, and recovered his mana. After his mana was fully restored, he stood up and continued forward. Mana is extremely important for a magic class; even a 1% deviation could mean being unable to cast a spell, which would spell the end for a magic user. So before battle, you must always restore your mana to full. If you have instant mana potions, that's another story, but those are usually expensive and unaffordable for ordinary people.

Ten minutes later, Ryan Bennett had killed three more skeleton soldiers, and a white light flashed over him. Ryan Bennett was overjoyed—after a month since the game launched, he finally reached level one. It hadn't been easy!

He gained 5 attribute points, which Ryan Bennett unhesitatingly put into Intelligence. Ryan Bennett planned to be a full-Int warlock—the higher the intelligence, the higher the spell damage. Although his body would be a bit frail, as long as he played well and kept monsters at a distance, there shouldn't be much danger. With so many control skills, Ryan Bennett felt confident.

After leveling up, his spell damage increased by 10%. He also equipped a level 2 green-quality staff that added 2 Intelligence and 1 Stamina, making it even easier to kill skeleton soldiers.

Ryan Bennett familiarized himself with his skills as he explored the entire Skeleton Forest, weaving through its dark shadows.

Six level-one skeleton soldiers gathered in the distance. Holding his light gray staff, Ryan Bennett calculated in his mind, wondering if this would work.

Ryan Bennett locked onto one of the skeleton soldiers.

Shadow Bolt!

Searing Pain!

Two spells hit one of the skeleton soldiers, and all six skeletons started to surround Ryan Bennett.

Explosion Spell!

Bang! All the skeleton soldiers took damage.

Repulsion Aura!

All the skeleton soldiers were pushed far away.

Shadow Bolt!

The first skeleton soldier fell.

Because of the Explosion Spell, the skeleton soldiers moved extremely slowly, inching toward Ryan Bennett.

He switched targets.

Searing Pain!

Ryan Bennett advanced instead of retreating, moving closer to the skeleton soldiers and choosing a suitable position.

Explosion Spell!

Then he retreated quickly, glancing at his mana—only 11% left. Ryan Bennett quietly waited for the Explosion Spell's cooldown. Once it was ready, he stepped forward again, dodging an attack from a skeleton soldier.

Explosion Spell!

Another skeleton soldier fell.

Shadow Bolt!

Searing Pain!

Two more skeleton soldiers fell. His mana was almost gone, only 2% left—enough to cast only Repulsion Aura! The remaining two skeleton soldiers had only about 3% health left.

Ryan Bennett was secretly annoyed at himself for not calculating his mana more carefully earlier.

Volume One: The Legendary Debut

Chapter 10: Encounter in the Wild

Ryan Bennett thought for a moment. Although warlocks are a bit frail, taking out two skeleton soldiers one level lower with only 3% health left shouldn't be a problem. Ryan Bennett raised his staff and charged at one of the skeleton soldiers.

Bang—a direct hit to the skeleton soldiers.

The skeleton soldier raised its longsword to counterattack, and Ryan Bennett's health dropped rapidly. For a magic class to engage in melee combat really wasn't wise; he should avoid this kind of thing in the future.

After beating the two skeleton soldiers with only 3% health left to death with his staff, Ryan Bennett's health was down to just 10%. A brilliant light enveloped him, and he leveled up from two to three, with all his stats restored to full.

The six skeleton soldiers dropped twelve silver coins for Ryan Bennett.

There was something shiny on the ground. Ryan Bennett picked it up—it was an unidentified pair of gloves. As a low-level item, it wouldn't fetch much money, so Ryan Bennett tossed the gloves into his bag.

By evening, Ryan Bennett had reached level five. This leveling speed was quite fast; for ordinary players, reaching level three on the first day was already good, and experts could get to around level four.
