Chapter 001: Brian Carter's Inspirational Story
Shida University is huge, and there are tons of beautiful girls.
In this university where the gender ratio is seriously unbalanced, many touching love stories are passed down.
A sophomore named Brian Carter from the School of Media and Journalism at Shida is one of the many stories.
His story is truly inspirational. In the words of his three roommates, it’s downright epic.
Most guys only applied to Shida—known as the top beauty university in the province—to chase girls. Brian Carter was different from most; he gave up Tsinghua for a girl and chose Shida.
It all started seven years ago, during the summer after graduating from middle school, when Brian Carter met a girl by a small lake in his hometown. To have a story with this girl, he resolutely gave up the better City No.1 High School and, despite his family’s objections, went to City No.3 High School where the girl studied.
However, it was all for nothing.
Brian Carter ended up in the same class as the girl, and he was proud of his taste. On the first day of school, the girl was unanimously crowned class beauty by all the boys. During the three years of high school, he pursued her relentlessly, even to the point of being annoyingly persistent, but never won her heart.
After the college entrance exam, Brian Carter kept chasing her, his passion undiminished since that summer.
The girl finally got fed up and gave him this answer: “I’m going to Shida. If you really like me, come find me at Shida. Please, stop singing love songs under my window... And stop sending me those texts in the middle of the night...”
Anyone could tell the girl was gently rejecting Brian Carter.
Over the years, Shida’s admission scores kept rising, making it harder to get in. Everyone at No.3 High knew that during high school, Brian Carter was obsessed with chasing girls and neglected his studies. With his grades, he’d be lucky to get into a junior college, let alone a university.
That summer, as autumn approached, the girl did indeed go to Shida.
That summer, as autumn approached, Brian Carter indeed failed the entrance exam.
By all accounts, the story between Brian Carter and the class beauty should have ended there.
No one expected Brian Carter to make such an unconventional choice.
He repeated a year, as if he’d become a different person, studying with surprising diligence.
Yet, it was still all for nothing.
After his second attempt at the college entrance exam, Brian Carter missed the mark for Shida by three points.
Everyone thought Brian Carter would give up—his grades were enough for an ordinary university.
But Brian Carter proved just how stubborn he was with his actions—he repeated another year!
That year, Brian Carter worked even harder than before, as if he was studying with his life on the line!
And so, the desperate Brian Carter spent five years in high school and took the college entrance exam three times.
From then on, Brian Carter’s life was different from his classmates.
Heaven rewards the diligent. After his third college entrance exam, Brian Carter achieved a jaw-dropping score. His results were off the charts—he even received an admission letter from Tsinghua.
Faced with a better option and his family’s advice, Brian Carter once again resolutely chose Shida.
Time can change many things.
That year, Brian Carter was a fresh-faced freshman.
That year, the class beauty was already a mature junior.
Brian Carter was still the same Brian Carter, just like the innocent boy by the lake five years ago.
But the class beauty was no longer the same—she already had a boyfriend...
Everyone around Brian Carter thought he should learn to give up.
But Brian Carter did something unexpected again—he walked up to the class beauty and said three words: “I’ll wait.”
The class beauty was angry: “What are you waiting for? I have a boyfriend!”
This time, Brian Carter doubled down and said six words: “I’ll wait for you to break up.”
Time flew by, and a year passed.
One evening at the start of sophomore year, Brian Carter unexpectedly received a text from the class beauty. The two met under a big tree on campus, a place full of youthful and wild memories. As soon as they met, the class beauty threw herself into Brian Carter’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably: “I... I broke up with him...”
At that moment, Brian Carter’s eyes filled with tears.
At that moment, the melancholy autumn rain began to fall, as if even the heavens were moved to tears.
Brian Carter felt happiness blooming like a flower—he finally understood what it meant for the oppressed to sing songs of freedom!
Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way he’d hoped.
The next day, the class beauty sent him a text: “Sorry, I was too impulsive yesterday.”
