Chapter 8

"Who said that?" Brian Carter showed a slight smile again, his tone giving off a sense of relief. "I just don't want to stay in this server, don't want to play this game character anymore, don't want to play a rogue again. Sammy, aren't you always shouting about wanting to be the big boss in a new server? Telecom Server 2 opens at 2 p.m. Are you in or not?"

Sammy was stunned for a moment, his expression like a girl breaking into a smile through tears. "I'm in, definitely in!"

"I'm going too!" The Carter Chief raised his hand to sign up.

"Of course I'm going too. Let me take a stroll next door and ask Cody and the others if they're coming." Dylan walked to the door, then suddenly turned back. "Boss, eat your food while it's hot. I ordered your favorite braised pork."

"Yeah, boss, people need food like iron needs steel. There are plenty of fish in the sea, just search on WeChat and you'll find one. No need to starve yourself over a woman." Sammy opened his little treasure chest, which was just the storage locker everyone had, took out a cup of something, and said in a sycophantic tone, "Boss, you eat first, I'll make you some milk tea."

What he had in his hand was the Youlemei instant milk tea from the TV ad, "Love her as you love her chrysanthemum."

The Carter Chief was a bit surprised—Sammy was famous for being stingy, always locking the good stuff in his locker. For most people, getting something from Sammy's little treasure chest was harder than stealing his girlfriend.

Seemingly provoked by Sammy, The Carter Chief also rummaged through his locker, pulled out a flash drive, and handed it to Brian Carter mysteriously. "Boss, even Fatty No. 2 is learning from Lei Feng, I can't show up empty-handed. This is my exclusive collection I've been gathering since I started getting acne, 500G, you know what I mean..."

Brian Carter's eyes grew slightly moist, a wave of warmth mingling with the sunlight outside the window, seeping into his body.

He simply lowered his head and started wolfing down his boxed meal.

In our youthful years, there are some girls worth remembering.

And some friends are even more worth cherishing for a lifetime.

Chapter 004: Summoning

In the afternoon sunlight, Brian Carter sipped his "Love her as you love her chrysanthemum" milk tea, pondering life.

He had no choice but to think about life—what he accomplished in the game today was just too bizarre.

Ten consecutive wins in the arena—that was something that only happened in his dreams, yet it happened in real life.

Thinking back to the situation, Brian Carter felt like he wasn't the one playing the game, but rather some mysterious force was playing for him. That's not quite accurate, actually—at the time, his mind was elsewhere, filled with thoughts of the class beauty. Meanwhile, some program, like those "auto offline plugins" that were popular years ago, seemed to take over and got him those ten wins.

Brian Carter rubbed his brow, feeling a slight sting.

He had a vague memory of this sting.

Last night, after drinking two bottles of beer, he was indeed drunk, but not to the point of passing out. He remembered that as he was about to reach the school gate, he picked up a shiny little thing from the ground. Its shape looked just like those bio-chips from sci-fi movies that can be implanted into the human body.

After that, Brian Carter couldn't remember anything else.

He vaguely recalled having a dream, in which something burrowed into his brow, and then a feminine electronic synthesized voice said, "Smart chip binding successful, loading data..."

When he woke up, he found himself lying on his dorm bed.

Everything in the dream felt too unreal. For a college student like Brian Carter receiving higher education, it was hard to believe a dream could come true.

What on earth was going on?

Did I really activate some kind of anime power?

Brian Carter was completely baffled. Other than the slight sting in his brow, he had no clues at all.

"Boss, if you're not playing rogue anymore, what will you play next?"

Sammy's voice came, eager to know if Brian Carter would be just as amazing playing another class.

Brian Carter: "I haven't decided yet. What do you think I should play?"

"I used to think you had a real talent for playing mage, almost as good as me. But maybe mage isn't your limit." Sammy thought seriously for a moment, then said, "After seeing your extraordinary performance as a rogue just now, my opinion of you has changed. Maybe you're a gaming prodigy like Victor."

"Victor?"

Brian Carter was taken aback—he never expected the usually sharp-tongued Sammy to give him such high praise.

Victor—in the past ten years, he's been a legendary, idol-level figure in the gaming world.

It's said that when he was in middle school, he aspired to become a top mage, but his mage was so bad it was almost a joke, making people lose faith in love. Some even told him to stop disgracing the mage class.

Later, in a fit of anger, Victor switched to playing a warrior, and from then on, he created miracles.

Number one warrior in the national server!

That's the title the gaming world gives Victor. For the past ten years, as long as there was a warrior class in an online game, if Victor joined, he was the undisputed NO.1. Five years ago, Victor represented the national team at WCG, won the world championship, brought glory to the country, and became a national idol in the gaming world.

Victor's story is truly inspiring. His personal experience tells people one thing: everyone is born with a purpose.
