Chapter 4

She paused for a moment, then said, “Jason promised me that after we graduate, we’ll get engaged. His dad has already bought a house and a car. Little Brian, I’ve always considered you my most special friend, and I hope you can give me your blessing.”

“I still have to bless you?” Brian Carter finally spoke, wiping his eyes hard with his hand, his expression a mix of tears and laughter: “Ever since I started high school, all my close friends have said I fell in love with someone I shouldn’t have. But I wanted to prove them wrong, and I wanted to show you how much I wanted to be with you. Only today did I realize that the crowd’s eyes really are sharp as hell—turns out I really did fall for the wrong person.”

As he spoke, he stared hard at the class beauty: “You want me to bless you? Then I hope that guy dumps you after getting what he wants!”

“You’re just like those other jerks, no class at all!” The class beauty’s face immediately fell, her brows radiating the confidence of a palace drama heroine: “Don’t worry about me, I know what Jason is thinking, I know what he wants. And I can promise you, from now on, only he will come begging to me—I won’t go begging to him!”

“Hahahaha!” Brian Carter laughed, the laughter a little manic: “You figured out his intentions long ago, just like you figured out that as long as you crook your little finger, I’d come running over like a fool? Sorry, this time, you guessed wrong!”

With a bang, Motivator stormed out, slamming the door.

The class beauty was stunned, frozen in place, not knowing what to do.

She had originally wanted to ask him for one more favor, to finish this act to the end.

But Brian Carter seemed like a different person now. She couldn’t forget the look of contempt and disdain in his eyes as he left.

Chapter 002: Are You Cheating?

At the Media College infirmary, three guys carried out a young man reeking of alcohol.

They walked all the way to Dorm 301 in Building 9, tossed the young man onto the bed, and the short, chubby one said, “Wasn’t The Boss going to a hotel? How did he end up passed out in the infirmary in the middle of the night? What’s going on?”

“Do you even have to ask? The Boss didn’t get lucky, got hurt instead, and then, in tribute to all the heartbroken seniors at Normal University, downed eight bottles of beer and passed out on the street.” A skinny guy sniffed the alcohol on Brian Carter and sighed, “What is love, anyway? Might as well just have a go at the computer… Suddenly I feel so lucky—my true love is the thousands of adult sites, they’ll never hurt me.”

“Thousands of adult sites won’t hurt you, but they’ll wreck your computer. How many times has that crappy machine of yours gotten a virus? Anyway, seriously, with The Boss’s alcohol tolerance, you really think he could down eight bottles? Last time he had just three and passed out in the bathroom.” Another guy, with a trendy hairstyle and flashy clothes, chimed in: “I just asked the security guard at the school gate—The Boss only had two bottles, and they were cans… As soon as he got to the gate, he was totally lost. Good thing the guard took him to the infirmary.”

“What’s going on, what’s up with Mr. Carter?”

As this voice sounded, two more people pushed the door open and came in.

The tall, burly guy from the north was nicknamed Cody, and the short, skinny guy with glasses was called Logan. Both were from the neighboring Dorm 302 and often teamed up with the four guys from 301 to play games.

Logan adjusted his glasses, exuding a Detective Conan vibe: “There’s only one truth—Mr. Carter got played by that woman again. What a doomed romance. I just don’t get it—Mr. Carter is usually a pretty tough guy, doesn’t seem like the backup type, so why does he always fall for that woman?”

“A nemesis, a fated nemesis,” Cody said with feeling, looking world-weary. “Back in high school, I had a crush on a girl too. I used to wonder—normally I was the boldest guy around, but every time I saw her, my face would flush and my heart would race. Later I figured it out—she was my destined nemesis.”

“Cody, you have such a pure crush story?” Sammy perked up, gossiping: “A guy like you, with your ‘special talent,’ isn’t it all about conquering everything with your 18cm weapon?”

There’s a story behind Cody’s “special talent.”

His WeChat status was supremely confident: My little brother is 18cm tall, do with that what you will!

That bold status caught a lot of attention. In two years of college, several girls had hit him up. According to Cody’s drunken bragging, one of them was a sultry thirty-year-old lecturer from the university town…

“Come on, can’t I have a story too?” Under everyone’s curious gaze, Cody started talking: “Back in the day, I was pure too. Every time after class when I went to the bathroom, I’d pass by the next class just to catch a glimpse of that girl, and it made me so happy. If she looked at me too, I felt like I could take on the world…”

“Seriously?” Sammy gossiped even more, asking, “So what happened, did you confess?”

“Well, I don’t know what I was thinking back then, but I just couldn’t bring myself to confess.” As Cody spoke, his rugged face looked a bit sad: “Later she went to a university up north, I came to Normal University, and with thousands of miles between us, over time I just forgot.”
