Andrew Bennett darted among the demonized wild wolves, his black figure flashing rapidly, the footwork beneath him carrying a strange rhythm, almost like a dancing step. After taking down one demonized wild wolf, Andrew Bennett spotted a longsword lying on the ground. It was probably a level-one weapon, which should still fetch some money. Andrew Bennett walked over and picked up the longsword from the ground.
Iron Sword: Unidentified, sword immortal only.
It belonged to a sword immortal, and it was still unidentified. Who knows if it’s any good, but up until now, he hadn’t come across any unidentified items, so it probably wasn’t too bad. Andrew Bennett tossed the iron sword into his Qiankun Ring without giving it much thought, and continued searching for monsters.
A wolf’s howl came from ahead, sounding a bit different from that of an ordinary demonized wild wolf. Could it be a boss-level monster? At this thought, Andrew Bennett felt a stir in his heart and moved toward the source of the sound. He didn’t dare expose himself—after all, he’d already struggled against two ordinary demonized wild wolves; if he ran into the wolf king, he’d be as good as dead. Still, since he was here, he might as well take a look before leaving.
Andrew Bennett hid behind a rock and looked toward the source of the sound.
Six people were struggling to fend off the wolf king’s attacks.
The wolf king was as tall as a person, its massive body rather intimidating. Its fur was all gray, and its pupils were blood-red. A sword immortal, a daoist, and a wraith had surrounded the wolf king. The wraith was summoned by a contract sorcerer’s level-one summoning spell, Wraith Summon. Compared to the sword immortal and the daoist, the wraith’s attacks were much weaker, but it was very durable.
Behind them stood the contract sorcerer, a warlock, a demon archer, and a dark sorcerer, each casting their own spells.
The battle had reached a fever pitch, and the six-person team was in constant peril. Several times, the sword immortal and the daoist had nearly been killed in an instant. Yet the wolf king didn’t show any signs of weakening. Fortunately, the six of them coordinated very well; otherwise, they would have been wiped out long ago.

Chapter Five: Duality Illusion
Should he help or not? Andrew Bennett pondered for a moment. There was no need to risk himself for a group of strangers. It wasn’t about self-preservation—Andrew Bennett had never trusted anyone in the game. To him, the lives and deaths of others had nothing to do with him; he only saw the game as a way to make a living. Besides, death in the game was nothing like death in real life. Even if you died in the game, you’d just lose a level’s worth of experience—no big deal.
“Duality Illusion!” The daoist cast a skill—this was a level-five daoist skill that could summon an illusion with no attack power, possessing 50% of the caster’s HP at the basic level. It was a pretty good skill. The daoist’s HP and defense were between those of the sword immortal and the demon archer, and it was thanks to this skill that the daoist could barely serve as a tank on the front lines.
Two daoists appeared before them, and the wolf king seemed confused. Taking advantage of this moment, the contract sorcerer healed the sword immortal, pulling him back from the brink of death. The sword immortal let out a deep breath; the wolf king’s attacks were so relentless that he could barely catch his breath, and he’d almost died several times.
“Third, resummon a wraith—the current one is almost out of HP!” the sword immortal shouted.
The contract sorcerer hurriedly began chanting a spell.
It was clear that they all looked to the sword immortal for direction. He was probably their team leader.
Just then, the sword immortal pulled out a pill and swallowed it. Andrew Bennett was startled—rich guy! That pill was a Vitality Pill, the best healing item sold in the pharmacy. It cost two gold coins each, restoring thirty HP per second for a full minute. Andrew Bennett glanced at his own inventory—he only had four gold coins in total. That one pill was worth half his entire fortune.
The contract sorcerer and the warlock also took pills while they had the chance. They were taking Essence Gathering Pills, which restored 1 mana per second for a minute, and cost one gold coin each. Ordinary people really couldn’t afford them.
While everyone was busy healing, the daoist’s illusion was shattered. Realizing it had been attacking a fake all along, the wolf king flew into a rage, let out a furious roar, and lunged at the sword immortal. The sword immortal swung his longsword to meet the attack. It had to be said, without having learned any defensive or evasive skills, the sword immortal’s defense was quite limited. The wolf king was not a foe they could handle at their current level.
In Andrew Bennett’s eyes, the wolf king was a level-five BOSS monster, and BOSS monsters had much higher defense and attack than regular monsters of the same level. Andrew Bennett couldn’t even handle a level-one BOSS at this point. Even with his powerful Demonic Arts, Andrew Bennett couldn’t do much damage to the wolf king. Luckily, they had the warlock’s Pain Curse, which reduced the wolf king’s defense and attack; otherwise, its overwhelming defense and massive HP would have been more than enough to finish them off.
“Hold on, everyone! The wolf king doesn’t have much HP left!” the sword immortal shouted, like a shot of adrenaline, instantly lifting the spirits of the other five and sweeping away their earlier despair.
Roar! The wolf king let out a howl, and the six who had just been encouraged suddenly felt their hearts sink.
The wolf king’s body suddenly swelled in size.
Berserk!
“Everyone, fall back!” The sword immortal struggled to hold off the wolf king, but his HP was dropping rapidly. Each swipe from the wolf king took away a terrifying amount of his health. The six began to retreat—if they didn’t get out in time, they’d all be wiped out.
