Chapter 10

“Mr. Bennett, want to come level up with us?” David Grant was already affectionately calling Andrew Bennett “big brother.” To be honest, he was completely convinced by Andrew Bennett’s drop rate. Usually, a Wolf King would drop at most one or two pieces of equipment, but after Andrew Bennett killed it, three items dropped. Of the two he took, one was bronze, and if he guessed right, the one Andrew Bennett took was also bronze.

“I still prefer leveling up alone.” Andrew Bennett was used to being by himself, and actually felt uncomfortable leveling with others.

“Oh, I see.” David Grant looked disappointed. “If you get any equipment, remember you have to sell it to me.”

Andrew Bennett couldn’t help but laugh. David Grant had said this nearly ten times already—his ears were about to grow calluses from hearing it. “I got it.”

David Grant reluctantly parted ways with Andrew Bennett, making Andrew Bennett feel a chill down his spine.

After selling the equipment, Andrew Bennett was in a great mood. He logged off, ready to treat himself—after all, business like this didn’t come by often.

Andrew Bennett walked outside. Night had fallen, and the city was lit up in dazzling colors. Andrew Bennett straightened his clothes; after all, going out was different from staying at home—he had to look presentable. He withdrew three thousand yuan from the bank, leaving just over two thousand left. But at least he wouldn’t starve.

He went to the post office, put the money in a package, and dropped it in the mailbox. Walking out of the post office, he immediately felt much lighter.

Not far from home was Ninghua University, and in front of the university was a street lined with snack stalls, selling all kinds of food. Andrew Bennett strolled along the street. The street was full of affectionate couples, and Andrew Bennett couldn’t help but sigh—college students these days really had it easy. Sleeping, eating, dating every day—who knew how much time they actually spent studying. But someone like him, who had only gone to elementary school, had no luck enjoying college life.

Andrew Bennett walked into a restaurant and ordered a bowl of ramen. This was the best thing he’d eaten in nearly a week. He’d been living on instant noodles all week—he was practically turning into one.

“Xiaoyun, let’s eat here.” The voice was as clear and sweet as an oriole singing, instantly pleasant to the ear. Just from the voice, you could tell its owner must be beautiful.

Andrew Bennett suddenly felt the voice was familiar. He shook his head—what were the odds? He turned to look, and saw a girl with rosy lips and white teeth, delicate features, and skin so fair it seemed to glow—truly stunning.

Andrew Bennett’s heart skipped a beat. How could it be her? The girl was none other than William Carter, whom he had saved before. She wasn’t in her police uniform, but wore a white dress, which made her look less heroic and more pure and innocent. Andrew Bennett quickly lowered his head.

William Carter glanced curiously at Andrew Bennett’s back, making Andrew Bennett feel a chill on his back.

The girl called Little Grace asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”

Why am I always so jumpy lately, thinking everyone I see is him? William Carter laughed at herself. “It’s nothing.”

The two of them sat down not far from Andrew Bennett, and William Carter kept glancing in his direction.

Andrew Bennett didn’t dare stay any longer. He quickly slurped a few mouthfuls of noodles, stood up, paid at the counter, and walked out.

Little Grace looked at William Carter, then followed her gaze to see a young man walking out. She asked in confusion, “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

William Carter shook her head. “I’m fine.”

“Let’s eat.” The two continued eating and chatting about things that interested them.

Andrew Bennett walked out of the restaurant and finally let out a long breath. That was even more nerve-wracking than killing someone—if she found out, he’d be done for. He composed himself and headed home.

“I heard you were in danger last time, is that true? With your impulsive personality, it’s no wonder something happened. I told you to change, but you never listen.” Little Grace complained.

William Carter just smiled, knowing her old classmate was just worried about her.

“You were saved by someone last time? I heard it was a guy—was he handsome? Hero saves beauty, what a wonderful love story. If you pledged yourself to him, it’d be a real-life fairy tale. Why don’t things like that ever happen to me?” Little Grace looked regretful.

William Carter smiled helplessly. Her old classmate wasn’t bad, just a bit too gossipy. “Alright, eat your food.”

William Carter’s words brought Little Grace back to reality. Little Grace pouted. “Fine.”

Suddenly, William Carter’s expression changed. She remembered that both that person and the man just now had a red string around their necks—she didn’t know what was hanging from it, but it was him! William Carter rushed out of the restaurant. By the time she got outside, the street was full of people, and that person was long gone. A heavy sense of loss welled up inside her.

Chapter 9: Ten Thousand Ghosts Devour the Heart

Andrew Bennett logged into the game and ran through the Demonic Heaven Technique once. The internal cultivation method had to be practiced once every day—diligence leads to mastery, while play leads to neglect. Only by practicing the martial arts technique daily could he reach a higher level.

After running through the Demonic Heaven Technique, Andrew Bennett found that his internal energy had suddenly increased a lot—from eighty points to ninety. His attack power also rose from 17 to 18. He hadn’t expected the Demonic Heaven Technique to have this effect. It seemed that internal energy was also related to how long he practiced the technique.
