“Who’s being shameless here?” David Grant’s voice came from behind. Andrew Bennett took a sip of tea, still sitting upright in his chair. When David Grant saw Andrew Bennett, he happily walked over. “Mr. Bennett, you finally came out. I thought you’d never make it.”
Hearing David Grant’s words, Andrew Bennett almost choked. “Never make it”—what kind of thing is that to say? Andrew Bennett couldn’t help but smile.
David Grant glanced at James King: “I was wondering who it was, acting so impressive. Turns out it’s just a hall master from the Tianshen Gang. If I remember right, Tianshen Gang is the second largest gang in Jiuli City, right? Why are you acting so high and mighty?” David Grant put extra emphasis on “hall master” and “second.”
James King’s expression kept changing, and he forced a smile: “No way, how could our Tianshen Gang compare to the Tianlong Gang? Mr. Grant, please don’t laugh at me.”
David Grant glanced at Andrew Bennett, who was still sitting calmly: “So who just said my big brother was being shameless?”
James King’s eyes darted around. No wonder this guy didn’t give him any face earlier—turns out he’s the big brother of the Tianlong Gang’s leader. James King bowed and nodded to Andrew Bennett: “It’s a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding. I didn’t realize this was Mr. Grant’s big brother. Sorry for my rudeness just now.” But his face was full of malice.
Andrew Bennett couldn’t be bothered to deal with such a petty person and just nodded in response.
James King took his leave from David Grant and walked out of the appraisal hall.
The players in the appraisal hall suddenly understood—no wonder he’s so well-equipped, he’s the big brother of the Tianlong Gang’s leader.
David Grant sidled up obsequiously: “Mr. Bennett, you’re leveling up so fast! You’ve already shot ahead of me. You must have gotten a lot of equipment and skill books, right?” His shifty eyes glanced at Andrew Bennett’s Qiankun Rings. He saw that Andrew Bennett was wearing two Qiankun Rings, both with golden dragon carvings, clearly of much higher quality than the basic ones. He was a bit shocked—can Qiankun Rings drop from monsters? He’d never seen anyone get one before.
Andrew Bennett took another sip of tea and said calmly, “Give me one hundred gold coins.”
David Grant didn’t even ask what Andrew Bennett needed the gold for; he just traded him one hundred gold coins without a word. But seeing what Andrew Bennett did next, David Grant’s heart started pounding, because Andrew Bennett walked over to the old appraiser. David Grant’s mind froze for a moment—what kind of equipment appraisal costs a hundred gold coins? Usually, a few coins were enough.
After the appraisal, Andrew Bennett walked over to David Grant: “Let’s find a quiet place to talk.” He turned and walked out of the appraisal hall.
Gulp. David Grant swallowed hard and hurried after him.
Andrew Bennett found a teahouse, and no matter what, David Grant insisted on paying for the tea. Andrew Bennett smiled indifferently and agreed. The two sat down in a private room.
David Grant rubbed his hands together, eyes fixed on the Qiankun Rings on Andrew Bennett’s hand, and grinned: “Big bro, hurry up and show me.”
Andrew Bennett laid out the remaining fifty-six pieces of equipment on the table. David Grant’s eyes lit up: “S-s-silver equipment? Three pieces of silver equipment?” David Grant stared blankly at the gear on the table. The monsters they’d been fighting lately were higher level, and aside from a few pieces dropped by the Corpse King, a few more pieces of silver equipment had dropped.
Seeing David Grant’s dazed look, Andrew Bennett waved his hand in front of David Grant’s eyes.
David Grant finally snapped out of it.
Andrew Bennett asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Big bro, where did you hunt monsters? You actually got silver equipment? And so much of it! If I’m not mistaken, you’re fully equipped with silver gear now, right? This is so frustrating. I’m the leader of a big gang, and my gear isn’t as good as yours. I haven’t even seen anyone with silver equipment yet.” You know, in his entire ten-thousand-member gang, he’d never seen anyone get a piece of silver equipment, and now he saw seven pieces here with Andrew Bennett. David Grant couldn’t be more frustrated.
“It’s nothing, just that the monsters I killed were higher level, so they dropped silver equipment.”
David Grant thought about it and figured that must be how the server was set up. The higher the monster’s level, the higher the equipment drop level. Since there were no requirements for any equipment—anyone could wear anything—they could only control the drop rate, making top-tier equipment as rare as possible.
David Grant reluctantly stroked the equipment on the table and said dejectedly, “There’s no way I can take all this.”
Andrew Bennett asked in confusion, “Why not? You’re the leader of the Tianlong Gang. This isn’t that much equipment, is it?”
David Grant sighed, “It’s not a lot of equipment, but there’s simply no silver equipment available right now, and there won’t be for a long time. I can’t even set a price. If it’s under a thousand gold coins, that’s one thing, but if I buy thousands of gold coins’ worth of equipment at once, it could affect the development of the gang.”
That was the truth. Right now, everyone was short on gold coins. David Grant could probably scrape together the money if he took one gold coin from each member, but then what? That would mean a lot of people in the gang wouldn’t be able to buy good equipment, and their leveling would slow down. Sacrificing everyone for a few people just wasn’t worth it, and David Grant wouldn’t do that.
