Grace Walker and Sarah Cooper, who had fallen onto the carpet, still hadn’t recovered from the terrifying scene at the car door when they heard another wave of horrifying noises. They turned their heads to look at what was happening directly in front of the vehicle, their hearts pounding wildly.
So many zombies were slamming heavily into the windshield, almost blocking the entire road ahead. The fragile windshield looked like it was about to shatter at any moment!
If throwing a single stone could break the windshield, how much more so with so many zombies!
William Carter paid no attention to these things; he focused intently on the road ahead, the data from the star seed projection constantly shifting in his mind.
“Base vehicle left side impacted, no damage caused. Base vehicle right side impacted, no damage caused... Windshield impacted... Base vehicle energy consumption... Remaining fuel...”
These zombies crashing into them looked terrifying, but in reality, aside from the scene being a bit disgusting, they hadn’t actually caused any harm to the base vehicle at all, and the windshield remained completely intact.
When the minibus finally broke free from the pile of zombies and entered a smooth driving state, the two girls were already pale as sheets—they were, after all, just ordinary girls.
Still shaken, it took them two or three seconds to slowly recover from their blank-minded state.
“It... it didn’t break...”
The windshield, unbelievably, hadn’t shattered.
The car door was still securely closed...
The process of breaking through just now might have lasted only a few seconds, but to Grace Walker and Sarah Cooper, it felt as long as an entire day.
Now that they realized everything was safe, both of them felt as if what had just happened was nothing but a nightmare.
Grace Walker carefully stood up, forced herself to suppress her discomfort, and moved to the car door, peering outside through the blood-splattered glass.
On the road behind them, some zombies were still chasing after them, but they were already about ten meters away. More zombies were on the ground, tearing and biting—probably feasting on the corpses of those zombies that had been knocked down and run over by the minibus.
These zombies had all mutated from living people, which was different from many movies where zombies mutate after death, so even when zombies cannibalized each other, the scene was just as bloody and horrifying.
Grace Walker only took one look before she didn’t want to look anymore; she just wanted to confirm that they had really escaped the encirclement.
She hadn’t expected the vehicle’s power and ramming force to be so strong, or the glass to be so impact-resistant.
“We made it out—we survived.” Both girls were filled with relief.
They basked in the joy of surviving a disaster. After a while, Grace Walker, looking at the blood-covered windshield, curiously asked, “Mr. Jiang, how is the glass on this car so sturdy?”
“Uh...” William Carter hadn’t intended to explain anything about the vehicle, but since she asked, he decided to brush it off with a simple excuse.
“It’s nothing, I just replaced all the glass with bulletproof glass.”
Of course, if it had only been bulletproof glass, it wouldn’t have been enough to break through the siege. William Carter had just used “ramming” and “acceleration.” If that hadn’t worked, he’d planned to use “weapons,” but in the end, it turned out he didn’t need to.
“Bulletproof!” Sarah Cooper stared in amazement at the car door in front of her. Wasn’t this something that only happened in movies? Bulletproof cars were hardly common in everyday life. Sarah Cooper knew a bit about vehicles; she knew that while some high-end brands offered bulletproof cars, they were all custom-made and cost a fortune—almost ten times the price of a regular luxury car.
And even if you were to retrofit bulletproof glass, why would you do it on such an old minibus?
Sarah Cooper found it hard to imagine and turned her questioning gaze to Grace Walker.
Grace Walker shook her head, mouthing and gesturing that she wasn’t really familiar with William Carter. Even if Sarah Cooper wanted her to help explain, she didn’t know any more than Sarah Cooper did.
“We should be safe for now. Find a place to sit and fasten your seatbelts,” William Carter said.
“Okay, thank you.” The two girls expressed their gratitude once again.
“It’s nothing,” William Carter replied calmly. To him, this really wasn’t a big deal; the risk was within controllable limits, just a small effort.
Chapter 11: Highway Entrance
Sarah Cooper didn’t want to see any more zombies, so she ran to the sofa in the living area and sat down. The sofa was very soft; Sarah Cooper touched it and felt that the surface material seemed to be cashmere—definitely expensive.
There was a small screen opposite the sofa, probably for watching movies, and next to it was a cabinet fixed to the floor. On its elegant tray were clean bottles of mineral water and cups, as well as some snacks.
The carpet on the floor felt like stepping on cotton, making people feel relaxed. The curtains were drawn over the windows, blocking the view outside, and with the bulletproof glass, it gave an immediate sense of security.
Having just escaped death, and still on the run for their lives with zombies and fleeing people outside, yet sitting in such a safe and comfortable environment... Sarah Cooper felt as if her earlier terrifying experience had all been just a dream.
