Chapter 3

Moving the dagger aside, following the cut made by the blade, he pulled the flesh to one side and saw a corner of black metal inside. Henry Carter cut away all the surrounding flesh, and soon the black metal was fully exposed.

At first, Henry Carter thought it was metal, but after peeling it out completely, he realized it was a black crystal about the size and shape of a pigeon egg.

Henry Carter held the crystal in his hand, but didn’t feel anything unusual—it was just like a beautiful, smooth black pebble.

But when he brought it close to his eyes for a careful look, it seemed as if billions of stars were swirling and evolving within the crystal, an incredible and breathtaking sight.

“This is the lowest-level area of the Sanctuary of God. Not to mention god-blooded creatures, even primitive-level creatures are rarely seen here. How could a god-blooded black beetle suddenly appear? And I’ve never heard of black beetles—such insignificant creatures—having a god-blooded variant. Plus, this god-blooded black beetle was absurdly weak. Could the appearance of this god-blooded black beetle be related to this black crystal?” Henry Carter pondered to himself.

But he couldn’t figure it out for now. Henry Carter swallowed the remaining god-blooded black beetle meat as well, stuffing his belly until it was round and almost bursting, and in total gained seven god genes.

Seven god genes—before, Henry Carter wouldn’t have even dared to dream of it. With his background, no matter how hard he tried, it was nearly impossible to defeat a god-blooded creature. Not to mention god-blooded—even primitive-level ones required risking his life, and the chances of a successful hunt were pitifully low.

The remaining shell of the god-blooded black beetle was also an extremely valuable material. Henry Carter picked up all the claws and stuffed them, along with the upper and lower shells, into his pocket.

The shell of an ordinary black beetle was almost worthless, but the shell of a god-blooded black beetle—even if you just took it back to make soup, drinking it should increase your god genes by one or two points.

It was Henry Carter’s first time eating a god-blooded creature. Supposedly, he should have gotten a full ten god genes, but after eating the meat, he only got seven—the remaining three must be in the shell.

If he sold the shell, the money he’d get would probably be enough to buy a pretty decent private aircraft in the Left-Spin Interstellar Alliance.

Returning to Steel Armor Sanctuary, as he walked down the street, people everywhere were pointing at him—some gloating, some mocking—but not a single person came near Henry Carter.

Everyone in Steel Armor Sanctuary looked at Henry Carter as if he were a monster.

Normally, when an average person entered the sanctuary, even if they had nothing, as long as they weren’t too clumsy, they could team up with a few other newcomers to hunt some lone primitive-level creatures without much trouble. No one would end up as miserable as Henry Carter.

But in the entire Steel Armor Sanctuary, not a single person was willing—or dared—to have anything to do with Henry Carter.

More than three months ago, when Henry Carter first entered the world of the Sanctuary of God, the first time he stepped out of the sanctuary, he had just rounded a corner of the city wall when he was shocked to see, right in front of him, a giant unicorn wolf, pure white and standing on four legs, taller than a person, its back turned to him.

Almost without hesitation, Henry Carter grabbed his dagger and stabbed it hard in the unicorn’s rear.

That stab made Henry Carter and Emily Bennett the biggest laughingstocks in all of Steel Armor Sanctuary.

That’s right—the unicorn white wolf wasn’t a mutant creature. Like Henry Carter, it was a human—a human who had used a beast soul transformation.

And Emily Bennett was the most powerful and influential woman in Steel Armor Sanctuary, a woman very likely to complete her first evolution with god-blood genes and embark on the path of evolution.

A rookie who had just entered Steel Armor Sanctuary stabbed Emily Bennett in the butt, and that became the biggest joke in the entire sanctuary. Although no one dared mention it in front of Emily Bennett, behind her back, everyone was laughing themselves silly.

“Ass Maniac” became the nickname everyone in Steel Armor Sanctuary knew Henry Carter by.

An enraged Emily Bennett made it clear: anyone who dared associate with Henry Carter would be her enemy.

There weren’t many people in Steel Armor Sanctuary capable of opposing Emily Bennett. Even if they had the ability, no one would become enemies with Emily Bennett over an unknown “Ass Maniac” like Henry Carter.

That’s why Henry Carter ended up so miserable. Still, Henry Carter didn’t blame Emily Bennett—it was his own fault. The first time he entered the sanctuary world, he was just too nervous, and having never seen a mutant creature or a transformed human, he made such an unforgivable mistake.

The fact that Emily Bennett didn’t kill him in her anger already made Henry Carter feel very grateful.

The only thing Henry Carter was glad about was that humans are teleported into the world of the Sanctuary of God randomly and uncontrollably, and there were no friends or family of his in Steel Armor Sanctuary—no one knew his real name.

Chapter 3: God-Blooded Armor

Henry Carter returned to his room, lit the stove, and poured a pot of water, tossing in the god-blooded black beetle’s claws and shell to boil.

Right now, Henry Carter had no tools and didn’t know any other methods, so he could only use this most primitive way to process the god-blooded black beetle’s shell, boiling out all the gene essence inside.

The shell of a god-blooded creature wouldn’t yield its essence in just an hour or two. After putting the lid on the pot, Henry Carter took out the black crystal and examined it closely in his hand.
