But no matter how much he looked, he couldn’t figure anything out.
Suddenly, Henry Carter’s gaze landed on a green-scaled beast about the size of a raccoon, kept in a cage in the corner of the room, and his heart stirred slightly.
The green-scaled beast, like the black beetle, was an ordinary creature. In the past, Henry Carter had always hunted green-scaled beasts, brought them back to cook and eat, to increase his genes.
But after eating too many green-scaled beasts, they no longer increased his genes. The remaining one, Henry Carter was too lazy to eat, so he left it there and forgot about it. Unexpectedly, it was still alive.
He took out the weak, dying green-scaled beast from the cage. Henry Carter hesitated for a moment, then brought the black crystal in his hand to the beast’s mouth, preparing to stuff it in.
Who would have thought that the dying green-scaled beast, upon seeing the black crystal, somehow mustered strength from nowhere, opened its mouth, stuck out its tongue, and rolled the black crystal into its mouth, swallowing it with a gulp.
“This black crystal really is something magical!” Henry Carter stared in shock, noticing that after swallowing the black crystal, the green-scaled beast seemed much more energetic, with renewed strength in its body. It scratched wildly with its four claws and even tried to bite the hand Henry Carter was using to hold its neck.
Henry Carter threw the green-scaled beast back into the cage and watched it closely. In no time at all, the green-scaled beast, which hadn’t eaten for days, had completely recovered its vitality. It was clawing and crashing around the cage, just as lively and wild as when Henry Carter had first caught it in the wild.
Henry Carter sat across from the cage, observing the green-scaled beast’s every move, a vague suspicion forming in his mind. If this suspicion was true, perhaps he had really obtained something extraordinary—something even more coveted than a sacred-blood creature.
But Henry Carter was also afraid his guess was wrong, so he could only watch the green-scaled beast anxiously, hoping to see the change he so desired.
Henry Carter was so nervous that he didn’t know how long he’d been staring, until the aroma of bone broth wafted from the pot, making him realize his stomach was growling with hunger and his empty belly was uncomfortable.
He checked the time—almost twenty-four hours had passed. Henry Carter hurried over to look at the black beetle shell in the pot. The golden shell had been stewed to a pale gold color, and the soup shimmered with a bright golden luster. The enticing aroma made the long-empty-stomached Henry Carter swallow hard.
Just as he was about to get a bowl of soup, he suddenly heard the sound of iron bars snapping from the cage holding the green-scaled beast. Henry Carter quickly turned to look, only to see the green-scaled beast had bitten through one of the cage’s iron bars and was sticking its head out.
The originally light green scales on its body had all turned dark green, and its teeth had become sharp and pointed. The tips of its four claws were like iron hooks, and it was about to squeeze out of the cage.
Henry Carter was both shocked and delighted. He quickly drew the dagger from his waist, rushed to the cage in two steps, and stabbed the green-scaled beast in the lower abdomen, which was stuck at the cage opening. After twisting the blade a few times, the green-scaled beast struggled for a moment, then went still.
“Primitive-level creature green-scaled beast killed. No beast soul obtained. Eating primitive green-scaled beast flesh can grant 0 to 10 points of primitive genes.”
A strange sound echoed in Henry Carter’s mind, leaving him frozen in place.
“Primitive-level green-scaled beast… a primitive-level green-scaled beast… that crystal really can make these creatures evolve…” Henry Carter was so overwhelmed with joy that he didn’t know how to react.
After a long while, Henry Carter suddenly jumped up, used his dagger to cut open the green-scaled beast’s abdomen, dug out the crystal about the size of a pigeon egg, and, not caring about the blood on it, held it in his hand and kissed it hard twice before wiping it clean and cradling it like a treasure.
“That sacred-blood black beetle really became sacred-blood level because of this crystal… If I keep letting the green-scaled beast evolve, could it also become sacred-blood level…” Henry Carter didn’t dare think further, because it was simply too astonishing.
Henry Carter was so excited that his hands trembled as he held the crystal. He bit his tongue hard, cried out in pain, and only then realized this was not a dream.
After a long moment of excitement, Henry Carter carefully put the crystal away, then gulped down the stewed beetle shell soup in a few mouthfuls, gaining another point of sacred-blood genes, bringing his total to eight.
There was nothing else he could do. Henry Carter only had the simplest tools, and using such a primitive method, he couldn’t fully extract the gene essence from the shell. Gaining even one point of sacred-blood genes was already quite good.
Henry Carter remembered that when he killed the sacred-blood black beetle, he also obtained a sacred-blood black beetle beast soul, so he hurried to check the data.
Henry Carter: Not evolved.
Rank: None.
Lifespan: 200.
Divine body evolution requirement: 100 gene points.
Genes possessed: seventy-nine gene points, eight sacred gene points.
Beast souls possessed: sacred-blood black beetle.
Sacred-blood black beetle beast soul: armor type.
“I wonder what the armor formed by the sacred-blood black beetle will look like?” As soon as Henry Carter had the thought, a golden light shot out from the void, taking the exact form of that golden black beetle.
