Chapter 10

Buck’s left eye was already bruised and swollen. He had just dodged a shot from a “bone arrow” and hurriedly shouted loudly, looking as if he was utterly aggrieved.

This Buck, after being bumped into by Jack on the road, gave Jack a fierce beating, so naturally Brian suffered even more at his hands.

Buck was the son of a minor noble, seventeen years old this year, and currently just the lowest-level necromancy apprentice. Facing Lisa, who had already advanced to a junior necromancer, he naturally couldn’t gain any advantage. Moreover, Buck liked Lisa, so he was even more cautious in his actions. Confronted by the furious Lisa, it was no wonder he fell for her tricks so quickly.

“Hmph, that’s none of your business. She only said it unintentionally, so there’s no way it’s wrong. Since you’re so vicious, take this!”

Ryan Carter and Jack really did let it slip “unintentionally,” and Ryan Carter was half-crazy and half-foolish. Logically, someone like that would never make up lies, and besides, as a menial servant, he wouldn’t dare to fabricate things!

Because it involved Lisa’s taboo, and there were many people watching nearby, Lisa naturally wouldn’t say it out loud, lest she be ridiculed. This time, she was determined to teach Buck a lesson.

“Fallen undead warriors, at the call of the messenger of darkness, reveal your presence!”

The little witch Lisa raised her slender arms high into the air, chanting an incantation. As soon as her voice fell, two bone-white skeleton warriors, each wielding equally white bone knives, appeared before her. With a wave of her hand, they “creaked” as they raised their blades and charged at Buck.

Nearby, Ryan Carter watched in astonishment. It was his first time witnessing this mysterious necromancy magic in person, and his curiosity and excitement peaked as he stared intently at the scene.

“Lisa’s spiritual power isn’t weak—she can actually summon two skeleton warriors!”

“Hmph, the necromancy branch is already pathetically weak, and they’re not even united among themselves. No wonder necromancy is the weakest branch in the magic academy—what a disgrace to the dark arts!”

……

After Lisa summoned two skeleton warriors, some of the onlooking dark arts students began to discuss among themselves. From their conversation, Ryan Carter learned that even the same spell had five different levels depending on the strength of one’s spiritual power. If a powerful necromancer cast this skeleton summoning spell, they could summon even more skeleton warriors.

Buck looked utterly dejected, cursing the rumor-monger hundreds of times in his heart. If Buck had mastered the dark arts’ curse magic and had strong enough spiritual power, Ryan Carter and Jack probably wouldn’t be laughing now.

Chased in a panic by the two skeleton warriors, Buck had no choice but to use the same spell to summon a small skeleton of his own. One person and one skeleton fought against Lisa’s two little skeletons.

Some of the dark arts students nearby, seeing Buck in such a sorry state, laughed loudly at him. Affected by their ridicule, Buck became even more flustered, and in his confusion, was kicked in the stomach by one of Lisa’s skeleton warriors. The pain turned his face purple, and he slowly crouched down.

When Lisa saw Buck get hit by a little skeleton and noticed it raising its bone-white knife again, she quickly stopped it and sent the two summoned skeletons back to another dimension.

After all, this wasn’t a life-or-death battle, and the magic academy strictly forbade students from fighting to the death. Of course, Lisa didn’t dare to go too far. Seeing Buck injured, most of her anger dissipated.

After Buck stood up, he also sent his summoned skeleton back to another dimension. Glancing around, he saw Ryan Carter and Jack right in front of him, laughing and mocking him. Annoyed, Buck immediately charged over angrily, cursing as he went: “You two lowly servants dare to laugh at me?”

Buck didn’t dare vent his anger on Lisa, nor on the senior dark arts students nearby. Only Ryan Carter and Jack, the two menial servants, were available for him to take out his anger on—especially since they were laughing so loudly, which only provoked Buck further.

When Lisa saw Buck arrogantly run past her, her anger, which had almost subsided, flared up again. With a cold face, she began chanting another spell: “Endless darkness, grant me the power of death, inflict the pain of the soul upon him—Agony of the Soul!”

As soon as Lisa finished her incantation, a dark, shadowy mass shot toward Buck. The black mass floated through the air, twisting and changing, finally turning into a flickering, shadowy black flame.

When Buck heard Lisa chanting, he turned and saw the Agony of the Soul spell flying toward him. His expression changed again, but then he suddenly remembered something and dashed toward Ryan Carter and Jack. Just as the Agony of the Soul was about to hit him, he suddenly rolled on the ground.

His scheme successful, the laughing Ryan Carter was completely unprepared. He could only watch as Buck suddenly rolled away, and the necromancy spell Agony of the Soul struck him instead.

A sharp pain shot through his head. Ryan Carter’s eyes rolled back, his face still frozen in a laughing expression, and he fell straight backward.
