Chapter 7

"That's easy enough. Of the three of us, I'm the weakest. Let William Carter and me have a match—if he beats me, then he naturally qualifies to join our team. That can't be considered bullying him, right?" Robert Harris immediately cut in and said.

Grace Bennett didn't say anything, just looked at William Carter.

William Carter knew that he had to make a statement at this moment, otherwise it would be hard to fit into this team. Although he wasn't particularly interested in joining, he did want to get a good result in this practical exam. Grace Bennett's team was probably the strongest in Guide High School, so joining them wouldn't be a bad thing.

"I have no problem with that, but actual combat carries risks—it's not good if anyone gets hurt." William Carter nodded and said.

Upon hearing this, Robert Harris laughed. "William Carter, I know you've been practicing 《苦禅》, so your physique and strength must be extraordinary, but your speed surely isn't. I won't take advantage of you—let's just compete in strength. How about that?"

When Robert Harris said this, Grace Bennett couldn't help but frown slightly.

Robert Harris practiced 《雷霆功》, which was also a Primordial Energy Technique known for explosive strength. Moreover, Robert Harris had mastered a Primordial Energy Skill called 《雷拳》 that complemented 《雷霆功》. Although Robert Harris's Thunder Fist was only at the first stage, most high schoolers had little chance to learn such skills. To master a Primordial Energy Skill, especially one that matched your own technique, was already quite rare.

Grace Bennett didn't know much about William Carter's family background, but seeing that he practiced a technique like 《苦禅》 and had never bought Primordial Energy Crystals to aid his training, it was likely that his family was struggling financially. If he couldn't even afford energy crystals, how could he possibly spend a lot of money on skill crystals?

Besides, when William Carter fought Jane Anderson before, he hadn't used any Primordial Energy Skills.

Grace Bennett's lips moved, but she didn't say anything. She thought to herself, "Let's see how William Carter handles this."

"How do we compete in strength?" William Carter looked at Robert Harris and asked.

"Although the school has strength testing machines, those dead numbers aren't very meaningful. Let's go fist to fist—whoever steps back loses. How about that?" Robert Harris narrowed his eyes and said.

"Let's just use the school's strength tester," William Carter thought for a moment and said.

"What? Afraid I'll hurt you?" Robert Harris curled his lip and said.

William Carter just smiled and said nothing. He was actually afraid he'd kill Robert Harris with a single punch.

The fact that Robert Harris had mastered the Thunder Fist skill wasn't a secret at school. Pure strength alone probably couldn't beat him. If William Carter used the Herculean Fist, he was genuinely worried he might blow Robert Harris's arm—and maybe his whole body—apart with one punch.

"Fine, since you're scared, let's use the strength tester," Robert Harris said, a bit disappointed.

Throughout three years of high school, all the teachers and students said William Carter was Guide High's number one genius. Naturally, Robert Harris was unconvinced and had long wanted to defeat William Carter to prove himself.

This was a small wish in the hearts of many of Guide High's top students. After William Carter was defeated by Jane Anderson in a single move, that desire faded quite a bit.

But now that he had a chance to beat William Carter, Robert Harris still felt a bit of anticipation and excitement. After all, William Carter had once been hailed as the school's top genius.

The only thing Robert Harris regretted was that he couldn't defeat William Carter with his own hands like Jane Anderson had, and could only rely on the numbers from the strength tester.

It was still lunchtime, so there weren't many students in the equipment room. James White was, as usual, personally checking each machine to see if any had problems and needed repairs.

James White had just sat down inside the space-capsule-like Primordial Energy Tester when he heard the door to the equipment room open and someone walk in.

"Who would come here during lunch break?" James White looked out through the observation window of the tester and saw that it was Grace Bennett, Robert Harris, David Thompson, and William Carter, which surprised him a little.

These four students were basically the top elites of this year's class at Guide High. Except for William Carter, who had given up on himself, the other three were the most promising graduates this year.

The four of them coming to the equipment room together, especially with William Carter among them, made James White curious. He wondered what they were up to.

"Four of them... Could it be they're forming a team for the practical test? But with William Carter's current situation... why would Grace Bennett and the others team up with him?" James White thought, and stayed inside the tester, wanting to see what they were doing.

"Do you want to go first, or should I?" Robert Harris walked up to the strength tester and turned to look at William Carter.

"Either way," William Carter said indifferently.

"Everyone gets three tries anyway, and we take the highest score, so it doesn't matter who goes first. I'll go first then," Robert Harris said, stepping up to the tester.

Robert Harris took a deep breath, activated Thunder Technique, gathered his strength, and punched the pressure plate of the strength tester.

The pressure plate was made of alloy, with a hydraulic device behind it. Depending on the force of the blow, the plate would move back, and the score would be displayed on the screen.
