Chapter 2

"Do I look like a bad person to you? Do I look like someone who could threaten my dad?" Emily Cooper shouted, taking a step toward David Clark.

David Clark kept stepping back, unable to defend himself from this huge misunderstanding. He wanted to say that he had gone easy on her just now because she was a girl, but he was afraid that saying it out loud would make Emily Cooper even angrier, so he could only look at Emily Cooper with a bitter expression.

Brian Cooper had also been extremely angry just now, but at this moment, he simply watched Emily Cooper interrogate David Clark without saying a word. His brows furrowed repeatedly, as if he was pondering something. He neither stopped Emily Cooper nor scolded David Clark.

"Dad, who is this person?" After venting her anger, Emily Cooper saw that David Clark didn't argue back at all, so she turned to ask Brian Cooper.

At this, Brian Cooper actually smiled slightly and said, "He's an employee at my company, David Clark. My leg has been hurting these past couple of days, so I asked him to be my driver for a while."

"Ah, is your rheumatism acting up again? It's so cold, why aren't you wearing more layers? Hurry up and get in the car, or it'll get worse."

Brian Cooper smiled as he stroked Emily Cooper's hair. His daughter had always been the apple of her parents' eye. Hearing her concern warmed his heart, and he said, "I'm fine. But are you still in pain?"

"I'm... fine." If it hadn't been brought up, Emily Cooper would have forgotten about it. Now that it was mentioned, she felt the pain all over again, but at least she could still move freely, so her bones were probably fine. She grimaced, glared fiercely at David Clark once more, and helped Brian Cooper into the car.

As soon as David Clark got in the car, Emily Cooper fixed him with a murderous glare. Brian Cooper patted his daughter's shoulder and said with a smile, "Let it go, Little David was just looking out for me. Don't hold it against him."

"Dad, didn't you see how hard he hit me just now? I almost got thrown to pieces."

"Heh... If you still have the energy to be angry, then you're fine. We'll have you checked out later, just in case."

At this point, David Clark was quite puzzled. He had only been at this company for less than a month, but he knew that Brian Cooper was not known for his good temper. Yet today, not only did Brian Cooper not blame him, he even made excuses for him. This seemed rather unusual.

Chapter Two: The New Manager

"Good morning, Brother David!" The young woman sitting at the entrance glanced at her watch and greeted David Clark with a cheerful smile. Her name was Eric Harris, the company receptionist. Although she wasn't especially beautiful, her sweet smile whenever she spoke made her very likable.

"Morning! Eric Harris, you look even prettier than yesterday." David Clark greeted Eric Harris with a grin, waving the lunchbox in his hand. "Want to eat something with me?"

"I've already had breakfast, thank you, Brother David." Every woman likes to be complimented, and Eric Harris's smile grew even sweeter. She leaned forward, lowered her voice mysteriously, and said, "David Clark, I heard the boss's daughter is coming to the company as a manager. You'd better be careful from now on."

"No way?" David Clark immediately frowned.

"Really! Mr. Cooper just called me and told everyone not to go out. He'll be bringing Miss Cooper over soon." Noticing David Clark's odd expression, Eric Harris asked curiously, "Brother David, what's wrong?"

"Nothing." David Clark replied, turning back to his seat. Just thinking about how it felt to hold Emily Cooper that day made him a little excited. He wondered what kind of expression Emily Cooper would have when she saw him today.

A commercial space of just over seventy square meters—that was where David Clark worked. There were six desks in the outer area, and a separate suite at the back, which was the boss's office.

This was a company dealing in waterproof materials, with its own factory. This place was actually just a sales department, but the boss had set up this separate company for tax reasons and to make it easier to connect with other clients.

There were seven people in the company: Jason Wright and John Miller were two single men in their thirties; Sarah Thompson and Olivia Baker were two single women in their twenties. Together with David Clark and Eric Harris, apart from the boss, the company had three men and three women, making for a very balanced team.

But while the flowers may be willing, the flowing water is heartless—none of these three men and three women had paired up. Eric Harris was single at the moment, but she had a boyfriend who treated her very well.

Sarah Thompson was also quite attractive, and always wore the least clothing in the office. Even in this cold weather, you could see the cleavage she deliberately showed off at her neckline. She often said, "Oh Allah, please send me a rich husband to reel in." But now, at twenty-five or twenty-six, she had changed boyfriends countless times, yet never found the rich husband she dreamed of.

Olivia Baker was the most outstanding woman in the group—tall, with fair skin, a full face, and delicate features. Her long, jet-black hair was perfect for a shampoo commercial. Her looks were one thing, but the most impressive part was that Olivia Baker didn't let her beauty make her a mere ornament. She was always the top performer in the company, and her professional attire made her look dignified and elegant. It was said she was also a great cook—a truly exceptional woman who could shine in the boardroom and the kitchen alike.
