Chapter 5

Because there were simply too many wild beasts, it was impossible to kill them all! As long as these wild beasts didn’t break into the city or pose a threat to ordinary people, the general attitude was to just let them be.

However, for some particularly powerful wild beasts, they couldn’t be left unchecked. This was because wild beasts with intelligence would often continue to evolve, and if they weren’t eradicated at the root, they would become even harder to deal with in the future.

“Hm? There’s a group of wild beasts to the northeast, and they’re moving quickly.”

On the radar, to the northeast of Emily Carter, a cluster of green dots was rapidly moving north, numbering about six or seven.

Not only that, but new green dots were continuously joining in.

Emily Carter immediately followed after them.

It was a pack of canine-type monsters, each about three to four meters long, with varying fur colors. In terms of strength, these monsters were the lowest-level beast soldier class—a regular first-time awakener could defeat one with some effort.

However, once these monsters banded together, they became extremely dangerous. If surrounded by a beast soldier-level pack, it would be nearly impossible to escape.

Emily Carter trailed the pack from a distance, arriving at a small plaza north of the city.

A dozen or so canine wild beasts stopped in the plaza, all raising their heads to howl at the sky.

“Awooo!”

The howls of these wild beasts were incredibly piercing, echoing clearly throughout the entire city.

“They’re here!”

A red dot appeared on Emily Carter’s radar watch.

Normally, wild beasts were scattered and rarely formed packs on their own—unless there was an intelligent lord-level wild beast acting as their leader, consciously gathering them together.

That’s why, as soon as Emily Carter discovered the beast pack, she immediately followed, and sure enough, she spotted the canine demon.

Without hesitation, Emily Carter summoned a cyan spiritual energy longsword in her right hand, stepped off the tall building, and dove straight down at the humanoid canine demon!

“Another one... here to die!”

The humanoid canine demon didn’t attack. Instead, he stepped back, and seven or eight wild beasts charged at Emily Carter together!

Each of these wild beasts was over three meters long, much larger than tigers or lions before mutation, and their strength and speed far surpassed what ordinary people could imagine!

Yet, Emily Carter’s longsword swept through them as if no one was there. With every flash of cyan light, beast limbs flew and blood spurted everywhere!

None of these wild beasts could withstand even a single blow—touch them and they died! Emily Carter was like a reaper wielding a scythe, mercilessly harvesting the lives of these canine wild beasts!

The humanoid canine demon showed no emotion, even watching with interest as Emily Carter slaughtered the wild beasts.

“Yet another self-righteous human. The last awakener was just as strong and confident as you, but he died by my hand—and even gave me this sword.”

The humanoid canine demon licked his lips with a scarlet tongue, gripping the hilt of the katana at his waist with his right hand.

“You humans are always so arrogant. That awakener proudly told me his draw slash was the fastest in the world, but the truth is... my draw slash is three times faster than his!”

As soon as the canine demon finished speaking, he turned into a streak of white light, slashing toward Emily Carter!

Chapter 4: The Power of a Single Punch

“So fast!” Emily Carter’s expression turned serious. She had dealt with several lord-level wild beasts before, but none had been nearly as fast as this canine demon!

In the darkness, a streak of silvery-white lightning flashed!

The canine demon’s katana swept out an arc of light, instantly crossing more than ten meters, slashing toward Emily Carter!

Emily Carter’s spiritual energy longsword had no physical form—it could cut through wild beasts, but had difficulty damaging metal. What’s more, this blade had once belonged to an awakener and was forged from top-grade alloy, incomparably sharp and by no means ordinary.

Emily Carter flipped through the air to the left, dodging the slash.

The sharp blade light swept past Emily Carter’s right side, slicing off a few strands of her hair, then struck a tall stone pillar beside the plaza!

With a “boom,” stone chips flew everywhere! The pillar, thick enough for two people to encircle, was cut cleanly in two!

“What incredible swordsmanship!”

Emily Carter was shocked. The power of the blade light alone was so great—one could only imagine the force of the actual slash.

Moreover, the fact that a wild beast could use sword techniques was itself astonishing!

“You seem surprised.”

The canine demon’s voice sounded behind Emily Carter, and another blade light slashed at her from the right rear!

Emily Carter dove forward, dodging the attack again. But the fierce blade light still grazed her left arm, sending a wave of pain through her!

Although her combat suit absorbed much of the damage, it still wasn’t enough to offset the power of that slash.

It was clear that if she were struck directly at close range, even with the combat suit, it would mean certain death!

At best, she’d lose a limb; at worst, she’d be killed!

“You humans are just too slow!”

Emily Carter’s vision blurred—the canine demon was already in front of her! The katana gleamed coldly as it slashed down at her head, while at the same time, two wild beasts attacked from behind!

Emily Carter dodged to the side, her right hand’s cyan longsword stabbing at the canine demon’s left rib from an incredibly tricky angle!

But just as the sword was halfway there, the canine demon suddenly kicked, landing squarely on Emily Carter’s abdomen!
