Chapter 18

Lillian Grant looked at Jason Carter for quite a while and said, "You should just give up. You can't possibly win."

"Giving up without even trying? Absolutely not." Jason Carter replied immediately.

"If you go, it's no different from seeking death." Lillian Grant said, "Even if by some miracle you beat him, the The Langley Family will never let you go. Samuel Langley may only be a collateral member of the The Langley Family, but the The Langley Family is one of the top elite families in the entire alliance. Killing you would be as easy for them as crushing an ant."

Jason Carter didn't answer right away, but instead asked, "Between Samuel Langley and you, who's stronger?"

Lillian Grant also didn't answer immediately. She gazed at Jason Carter for a long moment and said, "In terms of rank, I'm a bit stronger than him. In actual combat, I may not be able to beat him. Besides, I'm ten years older than he is."

"Then I'll start learning now. Before I fight him, I'll spar with you first. If I can beat you, then I'll fight him. If I can't beat you, I'll just admit defeat." Jason Carter said.

Lillian Grant asked, "You really haven't learned anything before?"

  Jason Carter shook his head.

"I'm a seventh dan. It took me a full 23 years to reach seventh dan. My talent is the highest my father has ever seen, and you only have five days." Lillian Grant said.

  Jason Carter nodded resolutely.

Lillian Grant's breathing suddenly grew heavy, her impressive chest heaving up and down, becoming even more full and firm, as if it might burst out of her clothes. Jason Carter was stunned by the sight.

When Lillian Grant opened her eyes and saw Jason Carter staring fixedly at her chest, her expression instantly turned cold and she snapped, "What are you looking at?"

"Oh, nothing." Jason Carter quickly averted his gaze, though he couldn't help but think to himself, such a voluptuous chest looks so breathtaking—he wondered what it would feel like to touch.

"By the way, he'll be fighting me blindfolded, and I can use any weapon." Jason Carter added, though he felt a bit embarrassed saying it.

Lillian Grant shook her head and said, "It won't help. If he did that against someone of the same level, the opponent would have a good chance of winning. Or if the opponent was just a bit weaker, maybe they'd win. But you're way too far behind, so whether he's blindfolded or not makes almost no difference."

Jason Carter naturally understood this logic. According to Lillian Grant, a seventh dan expert would lose to Samuel Langley, but an eighth dan would win.

Starting from zero, with only five days, if he could reach seventh dan, he might be able to take advantage of Samuel Langley's blindfold. But if he could reach seventh dan in five days, then reaching eighth dan wouldn't be much harder.

So, Samuel Langley fighting blindfolded seemed to give Jason Carter an advantage, but in reality, it made no difference at all.

"You're really not giving up?" Lillian Grant asked Jason Carter again.

Jason Carter nodded resolutely once more.

Lillian Grant's gaze sharpened again as she stared at Jason Carter and said, "Alright, let's give it a try. But no Wing Chun—Wing Chun, even at eighth dan, might not be able to beat Samuel Langley. We'll train with the knife."

"Extinction Assassination Technique! One of the ten classic martial arts of the present age."

"No way, you're being this generous? Five thousand bucks and I get to learn one of the ten classic martial arts of the present age? These ten classics must be overrated." Jason Carter was full of doubt, wondering if it was like that copy of 'Buddha's Palm' the old beggar sold to Stephen Chow for ten bucks.

"To be precise, you only need to spend five bucks to buy the manual for this assassination technique." Lillian Grant was quite frank, saying, "Because this is the only one of the ten classic martial arts that's public. Anyone can learn it, anyone can master it. If you learn it well, you're nearly invincible; if you don't, you're better off just swinging a knife around at random."

"Besides, this knife technique only has three moves, all of them vicious assassination techniques. On the day of the duel, you'll only have three seconds to beat him. If you haven't won after three seconds, you must immediately throw down your knife and surrender." Lillian Grant said.

In truth, Lillian Grant didn't hold out even a shred of hope in her heart. It was only because Jason Carter insisted that she offered the best plan she could.

But even so, this knife technique would take at least a dozen years of practice to pose a threat to Samuel Langley. Still, it was the best of all the bad options.

Next, Lillian Grant walked over to the wall and took down two knives, one long and one short.

The long one was three feet, the short one just over a foot and a half.

After hesitating for a moment, Lillian Grant put down the long knife and kept the short one. She drew the short knife, and instantly the blade gleamed like autumn water, a chill radiating from it.

"This is called a short knife. It used to be used by Yamaguo warriors for suicide. As a beginner, a long knife would actually be harder for you to use, so it's better to use the short one." Lillian Grant said.

Then, Lillian Grant walked over to a row of wooden stakes. Each stake was as thick as an arm, neatly nailed into the ground. Lillian Grant slashed with the short knife at lightning speed—Jason Carter's eyes couldn't even follow, he just saw a flash of white.

  But nothing seemed to happen.

Lillian Grant gently pushed the stake in front of her with her hand, and the upper half toppled to the ground, having already been cut through. It was just that Lillian Grant was so fast that after the cut, the upper half of the stake still stood upright, not falling until she pushed it.

It was simply a miraculous skill.
