Chapter 9

The power of Mister Pharmaceuticals was truly terrifying; they could actually mobilize armed forces nearby, and not just one unit.

William Carter grew more alarmed the more he read through the information.

The reason his position as a board director in the group attracted so much hatred was entirely because he had proposed a dangerous plan within the company: to use biochips to control the subordinate forces of the security department.

And according to this plan, he had already preemptively taken control of a considerable force.

This trampling of humanity and disregard for life had made him one of the most feared black hands within the group.

“In other words, judging by the forces I can currently control, even as the head of security, if I feel threatened and troubled, then the enemy must be extremely, extremely dangerous.”

William Carter twitched his lips and turned off the light screen. His mood, which had just improved a little, instantly plummeted again.

“Forget it, there’s still a month left anyway. I’ll deal with it then. For now, I just need to get through the present.”

He picked up his phone and saw a text message he had received.

‘Jane Safford: Very pleased to serve you, Minister.’

William Carter thought for a moment, then quickly replied to the message.

This Jane Safford was the captain of the guard he had personally appointed, and also the strongest close-combat fighter in Mister Pharmaceuticals.

This temporary team would be assembled and coordinated by him.

After a round of arrangements, Jane quickly confirmed the arrival time. This gave William Carter a bit more sense of security.

He put down his phone and was just about to turn off the screen when another message suddenly popped up.

‘Are you there?’ —Daniel Carter.

William Carter frowned slightly. Suddenly, he felt as if he had jumped out of the martial arts school and back into reality.

Daniel Carter was a colleague at his current company, and they were on good terms.

‘I’m here, what’s up? Did something happen at the company?’ —William Carter.

He quickly typed a reply.

The new phone, thanks to its upgraded model, felt great in his hand, making his typing much faster.

‘It’s not looking good. There’s some talk about your department. Be careful when you go back. That kid Charles Wright seems to be targeted by someone, so watch out you don’t get caught in the crossfire.’ —Daniel Carter.

‘Charles Wright? Targeted?’ —William Carter.

‘Seems like he had a conflict with the supervisor. Anyway, just be careful.’ —Daniel Carter.

Soon after, the other party cautiously retracted the chat record.

William Carter put down his phone, feeling an indescribable sense of strangeness.

Suddenly being reborn, suddenly awakening a system, and then looking back at the trivial matters in his company.

Instead, he felt life was more real.

‘Tomorrow I’ll go back. Once I’m back, I’ll remotely investigate the situation here. With the power of my new identity granted by the system, investigating a mere small martial arts school case will be a piece of cake.

When the time comes, I’ll see who’s playing tricks in the shadows.’

William Carter gradually calmed down.

Jane and the others arrived even faster than he had expected.

The first to arrive were two nearby team members: Catherine and Willie, both elite specialists in indoor close-quarters combat.

Most importantly, they were both fully armed, which made William Carter feel even more secure.

While everyone else in the martial arts school was practicing and socializing, he slipped out to meet with his two subordinates.

It was just a discreet, simple contact, but it gave him a preliminary understanding of these security department members.

Chapter 005: Clear Awareness (Part 1)

By the time he returned to the martial arts school, it was already close to 7 p.m.

The many disciples in the school had all finished their daily greetings and Q&A sessions and left for home.

The teaching method at the school was different from the norm. Instead, disciples practiced on their own, accumulated questions, and then had them all answered together by the old master Henry Carter.

This was because all the disciples in the school had long since passed the foundational stage.

Most of them were already capable of handling things independently outside, so their questions were mostly theoretical.

Or rather, these disciples came to ask questions mainly as an excuse to visit the old master Henry Carter.

Of course, some people had simply developed the habit over the years. As long as they weren’t out of town, they liked to gather at the school.

William Carter wasn’t part of this circle and didn’t know much about it, but as Henry Carter’s grandson, the disciples were all friendly toward him.

A few disciples politely chatted with him, but since they didn’t have much in common, they eventually parted ways courteously.

In the end, it was the senior brother Ethan Clark, who also gradually ran out of things to say to others, and William Carter who each occupied a corner of the courtyard.

Their eyes met, and both saw that neither had anyone around them.

Unlike William Carter, Ethan Clark had an overly intense and oppressive aura. No one liked to feel inferior by nature, so it was normal for him to be unpopular.

Except when asking questions, no one wanted to spend more time with him.

As the old master saw off the last two disciples and went outside, Ethan Clark walked straight over to William Carter.

“When are you going back tomorrow?” He was hesitating whether to act today.

“Yeah, it’s about time to go back. I only came back to clear my head because I was feeling annoyed.” William Carter smiled.
