Chapter 10

He now felt confident. As the Minister of Security, he naturally had some means of self-defense.

According to the information in his mind, the subcutaneous chip he had implanted possessed a certain neural signal induction function.

The principle was quite complex, but the specific effect was that if William Carter ever sensed his life was in danger, the chip would immediately release a ring of high-energy bio-magnetic pulses.

These pulses were harmless to him, but would have a strong stunning effect on all living things nearby.

“I’ll see you off then.” Ethan Clark was silent for a moment, then said calmly.

“No need, just spend more time with Grandpa. He’s getting old, and his health isn’t what it used to be.” William Carter replied with a smile.

He looked at this senior brother, who had been extremely mysterious before his rebirth and was even suspected of killing everyone in the martial arts school. Suddenly, a strange thought welled up in his heart.

“Ethan Clark, have you ever thought that martial arts actually has an end? The only thing that’s truly endless is technology.”

Ethan Clark frowned slightly. “What are you trying to say?”

“I can tell you have something on your mind.” William Carter said steadily, “Since the path you’re pursuing isn’t understood by those around you, why not…”

“What are you two talking about?” Henry Carter pushed the door open and came back, just in time to interrupt William Carter.

“You’re leaving tomorrow, come, have a drink with me!” Henry Carter grabbed his grandson’s shoulder and forcibly dragged him away to the front hall of the martial arts school.

Ethan Clark was left standing alone, quietly watching William Carter leave without saying a word.

When he got to the front hall, the housekeeper had already started setting up a second table for food and drinks. Only then did Ethan Clark return to his room, take out his phone from the drawer, and quickly sent out a message.

‘Come tomorrow.’ — Black Silkworm.

‘Okay.’ — Dada.

William Carter was caught by his grandfather and forced to drink quite a bit again before he was allowed to go back and rest.

Although he drank, he never got drunk from start to finish, always on guard for a possible attack.

But even late into the night, Ethan Clark showed no sign of making a move.

It seemed, just like before his rebirth, the other party still didn’t choose to act now.

This made him breathe a sigh of relief, and at the same time, gave him more time to prepare.

Early the next morning, Jane had already led all the team members to send a “all present” message to William Carter via phone.

After breakfast, Henry Carter and Ethan Clark accompanied him to the bus station, where he boarded the long-distance bus to the city.

William Carter didn’t sense any intention from Ethan Clark to make a move.

“Remember to call me when you get there safely.” Henry Carter reminded him at the bus door.

“Got it, got it. You go home and rest. It’s only a two-hour ride, very close.” William Carter waved from his seat.

Henry Carter gave a few more careful instructions before reluctantly leaving with Ethan Clark, squeezing through the crowd out of the station.

Watching his grandfather and Ethan Clark walk away, William Carter finally let out a sigh of relief. He had to admit, being around someone who could crush him with a single hand at any moment was not a pleasant feeling.

Even though he had a few cards up his sleeve, the distance was still too close.

Now it was better—finally, he was far away.

As he relaxed, he also scanned the environment on the bus with vigilance.

Some people were smoking, some were playing on their phones, and some were eating pre-cut fruit.

A few children were loudly clamoring for snacks from the vendors outside the bus.

The driver was wiping sweat with a discolored white towel.

About a third of the seats were already filled.

William Carter was lucky and got a window seat in the middle.

Next to him, two young women who seemed to have just started working after graduation were playing a game similar to Link Link on their phones.

Behind him was a family of three, with the parents feeding their son something like porridge—he didn’t know what it was called.

In front sat a fat man and two thin men; the fat man was on the phone, while the two thin ones huddled together playing on their phones.

William Carter took out his phone and checked the time: 10:06.

An even number.

“Are you from Qiushang Park too?” One of the girls playing the game looked at the park access card hanging from the side of William Carter’s phone in surprise.

“Ah… yes, you too?” William Carter looked at her in surprise.

The girl who spoke was quite young, looking just over twenty.

She wore a white blouse with a black business suit skirt, her legs wrapped in flesh-colored stockings for formality. Her legs were pressed together and slanted to the side, her posture a bit stiff—clearly, she had just recently undergone professional etiquette training.

In terms of looks, on a scale of ten, she’d score about a seven.

Her features were delicate, with a high nose bridge and willow-leaf eyebrows, but her skin was a bit rough, as if she didn’t come from a place with a lot of rain and humidity.

There was also a small white key tag clearly hanging from her phone.

“Didn’t expect to randomly meet someone from the park on the bus. Hi, which company are you with?” Linda Scott put down her phone and looked at William Carter with poise.

“I’m with Xinda Network, it’s a small company.” William Carter replied with a smile.
