William Carter turned his head to glance behind him.
Daniel Carter, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, walked in holding a cup of milk tea in one hand and a folder in the other.
“Go in, what are you standing at the door for?” Daniel Carter walked toward his seat.
William Carter followed; his seat was right next to Daniel Carter. In the company, Daniel Carter and Sharon Shaw were his closest friends.
This time coming back, on one hand, he planned to resign, and on the other, he mainly wanted to say goodbye to his two friends.
When they reached their seats, the two sat down, and William Carter quickly began packing up his personal belongings, not even turning on his computer.
All his miscellaneous items were packed into a plastic document bag, along with his thermos, electric heated shoes, his own good mouse, and basically all the comics and magazines he used for leisure and breaks.
William Carter swiftly stuffed everything into the plastic bag.
“I’m planning to resign. How about we have lunch together at noon? You and Sharon Shaw together. Do you have time?” After packing up, he got up and walked over to Daniel Carter to ask.
“Resign??” Daniel Carter looked completely confused. “You’re doing just fine, why resign?? Isn’t your product about to be finished?!”
“There’s something going on at home, I can’t help it.”
“...You’re about to succeed and you want to resign?” At the seat to the right, a tall girl who was talking to Andrew Smith overheard and asked in disbelief.
This girl was Sharon Shaw, one of the only two friends William Carter had in the company.
She got to know William Carter because, when she first joined, all the odd jobs in the company were assigned to her. She had just graduated, was unfamiliar with everything, and kept making all sorts of mistakes.
It was William Carter and Daniel Carter who couldn’t stand watching anymore and stepped in to give her advice and help, allowing her to get through her internship smoothly.
Sharon Shaw was usually straightforward, generous, loyal, and had a curvy, attractive figure. Although her looks weren’t as stunning as Andrew Smith and the other prettiest girls, she was still quite charming.
When she first joined, she didn’t know how to dress up and looked plain, so others didn’t notice her. Later, she gradually learned to put on makeup and dress well, slowly transforming from an ugly duckling into a swan.
So now, she was also a nice sight in the company.
“Yang-ge, if you pull this off, you’ll be promoted soon. Why resign now...” Sharon Shaw was confused, with a hint of urgency and regret.
“There’s something at home, I’ll explain later.” William Carter smiled.
He picked up his bag and went straight to the supervisor’s office.
Andrew Smith, nearby, also overheard and glanced at William Carter with some curiosity.
She had a good relationship with Sharon Shaw—they were close friends—and she knew a bit about the product William Carter was working on this time; it had great potential.
To give up on such a good project just like that, she couldn’t see any regret on his face.
She was different from Sharon Shaw. Not to mention personality, Sharon Shaw was truly capable, had a good education—she was a graduate student from a top federal university—so her future prospects were actually very good.
But she herself was different.
She only had a degree from an ordinary second-tier university, and was just a regular graduate. Her abilities at the company were average, and she had no family background, coming from a rural area.
So, if she wanted to quickly establish herself in Starshadow City, the fastest way was to find a husband with good conditions.
Andrew Smith had always been very clear about her own position.
That’s why she befriended Sharon Shaw—because of her excellent education and abilities, and also because she was a local in Starshadow City with a good family background.
And the kind of person you are determines the kind of circle you’re in. People from different levels and circles rarely mix.
So, one of Andrew Smith’s main reasons for making friends was to integrate into the local circle.
Or to use the other’s circle as a stepping stone to expand her own network.
Otherwise, if she just stayed in the company, facing a bunch of ordinary office workers every day, when would she ever find a suitable partner? Was she supposed to settle for these colleagues who barely made a few thousand a month and spent it all?
Her college roommate, who was shorter and less attractive than her, had already married a good husband and flaunted luxury goods and travel on social media every day.
If even women like that could live well, Andrew Smith didn’t think she was any worse.
Looking at William Carter, this male colleague who used to be quite familiar but whom she’d never really interacted with, it seemed that after he took a leave of absence, his aura had subtly changed.
Andrew Smith felt a bit curious.
Soon, she saw William Carter come out of the supervisor’s office, holding documents like a non-compete agreement, and his name badge was gone from his chest.
It looked like he really had resigned.
Chapter 008: Contact (Part 2)
“At noon, it’s my treat. Let’s go eat together.” William Carter patted a few colleagues he was relatively close to, smiling as he invited them to lunch.
These colleagues were all his teammates in this product planning project. His sudden resignation would definitely have a big impact on the whole project, so as an apology, he felt he had to do something.
But since he had family matters and had to resign, the colleagues all expressed understanding, but due to busy work, politely declined the meal.
After all, the project was about to end, and William Carter’s sudden departure actually meant more credit for the others—they were more than happy about it.
