Chapter 20

“Do you still remember the scenes when we worked together with utmost sincerity? Back then, the group was incredibly powerful, capable of anything. What a pity...”

Chapter 010: The Situation (Part 2)

“What do you plan to offer in exchange?” William Carter remained unmoved. He worked hard to steady his expression, making himself look more like a board member of the group.

Although he wanted to ask a bunch of questions all at once, he knew he had to be steady, not agree easily, reserved, and deep.

Those were the qualities he should have as a qualified board member and head of security.

“The K Crystal Serum you’ve always wanted. How about that?” Christian Lane replied softly.

“...” William Carter felt a chill in his heart. He understood what the other meant.

According to the information in his mind, Christian Lane was not as gentle and calm as he appeared on the surface.

He had been repeatedly warned by the group’s board for conducting human experiments with drugs.

But the impressive thing was, every time he managed to turn danger into safety, and even in the eyes of the federal authorities, he could easily get away.

Even if he was exposed.

At most, he would just change his identity and continue a new round of experiments.

So at this moment, the real purpose behind his request for elite escorts... was suspicious.

And the K Crystal Serum was the latest research achievement of the group’s R&D department, said to comprehensively enhance all aspects of the human body and even prolong life.

It was just that it was still under further development, so no finished product had been completed.

He didn’t expect that Christian had already finished it long ago, just hadn’t made it public.

It seemed Christian had seen through William Carter’s thoughts. Christian smiled and said, “I’m about to announce it at the board meeting. Tell me, if I really put the K Crystal Serum on the table as a bargaining chip, who do you think will get the chairman’s seat next time?”

After a moment of silence, William Carter still nodded.

“Alright, I can send you a team of elites, but I want more than just the K Crystal Serum. I need your support with my troubles.”

“Heh, at most I can only give you a little help on the side with your issues.” Christian shook his head with a smile.

He wasn’t one to get involved in muddy waters; the troubles of the security department were far more serious than his own. If it was just a matter of picking the wrong faction and butting heads with the incoming chairman, that would be minor.

But William Carter’s troubles were not that simple.

“That won’t do. My most elite forces must be used where they’re most needed.” William Carter’s tone was low as he began to bargain.

Although he was refused, Christian already knew that from here on, it was just a matter of negotiating terms—William Carter had actually agreed.

A moment later.

William Carter opened the door and got out of the car, calmly walking back to the restaurant.

Christian’s subordinates were still around, but at some point, small groups of onlookers had gathered behind them.

On the surface, these people seemed to be watching the commotion, but in reality, hidden lines of sight were already targeting the vital points of all of Christian’s subordinates.

With just one order from William Carter, this place would instantly become a battlefield between two factions.

The blond man with slicked-back hair at the front bowed slightly to William Carter again, then waved his hand.

The bald men around quickly withdrew, getting into the sedans that had pulled up behind.

Soon, with Christian Lane’s vehicle in the lead, the entire motorcade quickly disappeared at the edge of the street.

Watching the convoy leave, William Carter let out a sigh of relief, but at the same time, a deep sense of suspicion arose in his heart.

Suspicion about the trouble caused by this hidden identity.

“Forget it. Since he came seeking cooperation, I’ll leave him be for now. I should deal with Grandpa’s case first.”

After what had happened, he no longer felt like eating or drinking.

Earlier, while they were chatting, Christian’s car had silently taken a detour, so after William Carter got out, he had to walk a few more steps to return to the restaurant.

“Minister.” A young woman with long red hair, looking anxious, approached from the side and tried to speak softly.

William Carter raised his hand slightly, stopping her from continuing.

“There was a sudden traffic jam outside. I saw it—it must have been arranged by Christian. It’s not your fault,” he said gently.

The red-haired woman quickly lowered her head.

“Thank you for your understanding!”

“Have everyone withdraw and spread out. Also, send a more ordinary car over. In a bit, have Jane come to my place.”

“Yes.”

After giving his instructions and watching the red-haired woman leave quickly, William Carter finally returned to the restaurant.

The whole series of events had happened very suddenly.

But thanks to the follow-up handling and cover by his subordinates, few people in the restaurant had seen him get in the car and talk with Christian.

The other party had made a big show of it, seemingly unconcerned about being seen, which made William Carter a bit suspicious.

He soon returned to the private room.

William Carter acted as if nothing had happened and didn’t mention the earlier incident. The others at the table, seeing he didn’t bring it up, sensibly refrained from asking.

Everyone continued eating, drinking, and chatting.

But after such a sudden event, everyone inevitably felt a bit uneasy.

After a while, the private room door opened again, and Andrew Smith, who had gone to the restroom earlier, returned, closed the door as if nothing had happened, and sat back in his seat.

After another round of eating and drinking, William Carter finally stood up, toasted everyone, and said a few words of farewell.

Only then did the dinner finally come to an end.
