Chapter 12

“Oh, actually, my grandpa’s martial arts school doesn’t teach much. There are only a few basic fist techniques that get repeated over and over…” William Carter snapped back to attention and continued to explain with a smile.

……

……

Beside the parking lot at the bus station.

David had a head of blond hair, and the muscles on his body looked even more powerful under the tight black tank top.

He had two black dragons tattooed on his arms, and the character ‘eye’ tattooed on his neck. Combined with his slightly sinister appearance and aura, he gave off a unique vibe, completely different from ordinary street thugs.

Black tank top, white long pants, white leather boots—this was his entire outfit.

He watched as the car William Carter was in began to slowly start up.

David tossed away his cigarette butt, stomped it out, then rolled his shoulders.

“I really don’t get why Black Silkworm hasn’t made a move yet. Has he spent so much time with the kid that he can’t do it?” he sneered, then strode toward the car.

The bustling crowd gave him the perfect cover.

In such a chaotic place, killing someone was all too easy for someone like him, skilled in both hidden strikes and hard techniques.

David flexed his fingers, and a metal needle silently slipped between them.

Sss!!

Suddenly, the hairs on his back stood on end. Just as the faintest gunshot reached his ears, he felt a numbness in his back.

“A gunman?!” David quickly shuffled left in small steps, moving into the crowd two meters away in a tenth of a second.

Blending into the crowd, a twisted grin crept onto David’s face.

“Heh heh… a gunman?? There’s actually a gunman protecting that kid?? Ridiculous. Do they really think a mere tranquilizer dart can…” click.

In an instant, more than five guns were pressed against him from all directions.

The hard barrels dug tightly into his torso.

The grin on David’s face froze instantly.

Sss.

Just before losing consciousness, he vaguely heard someone beside him give a low order.

“Take him. The Minister wants to see him.”

……

……

William Carter got off the car, still pondering the system ability he’d gained.

This system seemed to allow him to obtain a hidden identity out of thin air.

But what he couldn’t figure out was, where did this hidden identity actually come from?

Was there already a Security Director at Miste Pharmaceutical Group, or did the system just create one from nothing?

And judging from the flood of information in his mind, every detail about this Security Director, from childhood to adulthood, matched his own life experience perfectly.

The two-hour bus ride wasn’t long.

William Carter got off, exchanged contact info with Linda Scott, then hailed a cab and left the station.

He quickly returned to the city center of Yingxing, arriving at his small rented studio apartment.

Yingxing City was located at the easternmost part of the Mien Federation, near the sea—a trade city.

Though not large, it was mainly focused on the marine and sea mining industries, and had developed quite well.

Among the third-tier cities of the Federation, it was one of the larger ones.

Yingxing had five industrial parks. The Qiushang Park where he worked was a full thirteen kilometers from his apartment.

But because the rent was cheap enough, the previous William Carter could only get up early every day to catch the subway.

But that was before. Now, things were different for him.

Thud.

William Carter flopped hard onto his only single sofa, letting the soft leather wrap him up tightly.

In just two days, on the surface, he’d only gone back to his hometown to visit his grandpa, but in reality, what happened in between was so complicated it would leave anyone dumbfounded.

William Carter rested for quite a while before taking out his phone.

He checked his call log first—two missed calls, both from his dad.

Without thinking much, he quickly called back.

After a few rings, the call was picked up right away.

“Hey, son, did you go back and see your grandpa?” His dad, Samuel Carter, had a very recognizable voice.

“Yeah, I did. He’s the same as always—still strong enough to kill a bull with one punch.” William Carter laughed.

“That’s good. We’re out here and can’t get back to see him right away, so you’ll have to visit him from time to time.

How about you? How’s work going? Got a girlfriend yet? Want your old man to help out?”

“No thanks, I’m not in the mood for that right now. By the way, Dad, do you know about Grandpa’s oldest disciple, Ethan Clark? Where’s he from? How did he become Grandpa’s apprentice?” William Carter wanted to dig up some info on Ethan Clark, to see if his dad knew any secrets.

“Ethan Clark? Grandpa picked him up. Basically adopted him as a foster son. He’s really talented in martial arts. Back then, Grandpa couldn’t find anyone to pass on his legacy to, so he pinned all his hopes on him.

In the future, Ethan Clark will probably inherit Grandpa’s Yuekong Martial Arts School.” His dad sighed.

“What about Ethan Clark’s parents?”

“No idea. When Grandpa found him, the kid was already almost ten. Dirty all over—you wouldn’t know, but back then, there was that worsening ozone hole, global disasters everywhere, orphans starving all over the place.”
