Chapter 6

I have to say, Grace Bennett looks very charming when she reads, possessing a special beauty unique to intellectual women. This made James Carter quite excited. Spending every day talking with Liam Clark and watching Grace Bennett read was truly a rare pleasure. As for Ryan Sullivan, James Carter could only ignore her for now; that female detective didn’t seem very approachable.

They walked from downstairs all the way up, and James Carter became familiar with the place. Besides the main hall, the first floor had four rooms, all currently empty. There was also a spacious dining room and kitchen, as well as a small bathroom.

The second floor was mainly bedrooms. The more than 200 square meters were divided into eight bedrooms, four on the north side and four on the south, each with its own bathroom. The three of them all stayed in the three rooms on the south side: Grace Bennett in the second room, Liam Clark in the third, and Ryan Sullivan in the fourth.

At the far west end was a very large bathroom. Liam Clark took James Carter in for a quick look before ushering him out, because there were quite a few women’s undergarments hanging inside—so colorful and dazzling that it was almost overwhelming.

The third floor was a huge suite. Outside was a small living room with only a set of sofas and a bookshelf—though the bookshelf was empty. Inside was a bedroom with a roughly two-meter-square bed and a wardrobe, though the wardrobe was empty as well. There was also a spacious bathroom outside, even larger and more luxurious than the one on the second floor—the most luxurious spot on the entire third floor. Stepping out from the living room led to a terrace of about a hundred square meters, which was James Carter’s favorite place as seen from downstairs.

Chapter 9: You Really Can’t Judge a Book by Its Cover!

As for the fourth floor, it was just a small, unfinished level with a storage room of a little over ten square meters, completely empty inside.

After touring his villa, James Carter asked in confusion, “Liam Clark, doesn’t my uncle live here?”

“Just call me Liam. Both Sister Sullivan and Sister Bennett call me that. Mr. Carter has never lived here. I don’t know if you’ll be staying here in the future?”

“Of course I’ll live here.” James Carter answered without hesitation. With a villa like this, why would he go rent an apartment? That would make him a super fool.

“So which room will you stay in?”

“Of course, the third floor.” The third floor was the best, and as the landlord, he naturally deserved the best room.

But Liam Clark just chuckled, then lowered her voice and said mysteriously, “Big Carter, do you know why Sister Sullivan bumped into you just now?”

  “Why?”

“Because both Sister Bennett and Sister Sullivan wanted to move to the third floor. They actually got into a fight over it earlier. Now that you’re moving in, they don’t have to argue anymore.”

  “They fought?”

“Yeah! Don’t be fooled by how gentle Sister Bennett looks—she’s actually really good at fighting. Sister Sullivan has never beaten her. Just now, Sister Sullivan was pushed to the doorway by her, and when you opened the door, you ran right into her.” Liam Clark grinned mischievously, her eyes narrowing into slits like a little fox.

James Carter’s mouth twitched. These women actually fought? Ryan Sullivan, being a female detective, it made sense for her to fight criminals. But Grace Bennett—she didn’t look like someone who could fight at all. Truly, you can’t judge a book by its cover.

But glancing at Liam Clark, this girl’s eyes were narrowed into slits, and her smile made James Carter feel she was a bit sly as well...

At that moment, James Carter’s phone rang again. He pulled out the phone he’d gotten as a freebie for topping up his account from the pocket of his baggy shorts and answered.

“You brat, are you coming or not? If you don’t, don’t ever call me your friend again.” David Foster’s voice roared from the other end.

“If I say I’m not coming, I’m not coming. I’ve got a villa now and I’m enjoying the view inside.” With such a perk, James Carter naturally wanted to share it with his buddy.

“Damn, are you for real? Can’t you come up with a better excuse? A villa, really? I’ve got a skyscraper! Wait... you’re not out picking up girls, are you?” David Foster suddenly lowered his voice.

At this moment, Liam Clark leaned over and said, “Big Carter, that’s your friend, right? Invite him over to hang out.”

James Carter’s phone was on speaker and not pressed to his ear, so Liam Clark’s voice was heard by David Foster. His buddy immediately shouted, “James, you go ahead and do your thing. I’m busy today—two little starlets are pestering me to meet up, I can barely handle it. I’ll come to your villa for a drink when I have time. Oh, and the yacht you asked me to book is almost ready. Make some time to come pick it up.”

After hanging up, David Foster chuckled dryly. He hadn’t expected James Carter to start picking up girls himself, and even get a villa to pose as a rich kid. Not a bad idea—maybe he should try it too. Seems like pretty girls these days only care about money, so maybe they wouldn’t mind his chubby figure.
