Chapter 13

James Carter currently works at a factory. There are more than a dozen workers in total, working in two shifts. It’s said the business is doing pretty well, making several hundred thousand yuan a year. The boss is called Henry Foster, but the workers all call him Chad Foster. He’s notoriously stingy and mean. Whenever the workers make even a small mistake, he’ll curse them out endlessly. But since he’s the boss, the workers usually just have to put up with it. James Carter has certainly suffered a lot under this boss.

But finding a job these days is so hard. Even though this small factory isn’t big and the workload is heavy, at least it’s a job, and he can earn over two thousand yuan a month.

In Pingyang, a salary of just over two thousand isn’t much. But James Carter has another enemy—the guy who stabbed his parents. Unable to find his parents, this guy takes out his anger on James Carter. No matter what job James Carter takes, this guy will show up and pressure the boss to fire him. This guy has powerful connections, so the bosses all have to give him face. So, the fact that James Carter can even find a job like this is already pretty good.

Today, as he arrived at the factory gate, James Carter’s heart sank. A yellow Ferrari was parked in the factory yard—it was that guy’s car. Whenever he saw this car, James Carter knew his job was as good as gone.

James Carter turned to leave. Since the job was lost anyway, there was no point in getting into it with that bastard. But just as he turned, a mocking voice came from behind: “Well, well! A university graduate, and you’ve ended up doing manual labor in this little factory. Tsk tsk, what a waste of talent.”

James Carter paused, slowly turned around, and a look of disdain appeared on his face.

A man in his thirties, dressed head to toe in designer clothes, hair slicked back and shiny, stepped out of the car, smiling at James Carter. But that smile was so disgusting that at least James Carter found it unbearable.

This guy was the enemy of James Carter’s family—Ethan Brooks!

James Carter couldn’t be bothered to talk to him and walked straight into the factory.

Ethan Brooks followed and said, “What, you think you can still work at this factory?”

“Hmph!” James Carter could only snort coldly. He knew very well that if he tried to fight this guy head-on, he’d only suffer. The guy could get away with cheating his parents out of money, but once his father stabbed him, his father became a wanted man.

“If you’re not happy, you could always do what your old man did and stab me a couple of times. Then you could go on the run too, and the three of you could have a family reunion.” Ethan Brooks laughed heartily. Ever since he decided to take revenge on James Carter, he found it incredibly satisfying to drive someone into a corner like this.

James Carter kept walking into the factory, heading straight for the office of the factory director, Henry Foster, with Ethan Brooks still following behind.

“President Brooks, why did you come in person? Such a small matter, I could have handled it with just a word,” Henry Foster ignored James Carter and went straight to greet Ethan Brooks.

Chapter 20: What did you do to Emily Harris?!

Ethan Brooks looked at James Carter with a sly smile and said, “I just love seeing this kid get fired.”

Henry Foster smiled at Ethan Brooks, then turned to face James Carter. His face changed instantly, like an actor switching masks, and he shouted, “James Carter, get out of here today! I don’t need you anymore.”

James Carter was already used to this. Every time a boss was approached by Ethan Brooks, he’d be fired immediately. But few bosses were as blunt and heartless as Henry Foster, which made James Carter secretly angry. He kept a straight face and stretched out his hand, saying, “Settle my half-month’s wages.”

Henry Foster glared and barked, “Pay you? Are you crazy? We agreed to settle wages monthly. You haven’t even worked a full month yet. Why should I pay you anything?”

James Carter could barely contain his anger and said furiously, “I have no objection to you firing me—you’re the boss. But I’ve worked for you for half a month this month. You’re not going to pay me?”

“I’m not paying you. What are you going to do about it? If you’ve got the guts, go sue me!” Henry Foster said forcefully, glancing at Ethan Brooks. Seeing the smile on Ethan Brooks’s face, he knew he was currying favor with the right person.

James Carter clenched his fists tightly, glaring fiercely at Henry Foster, and squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth: “Are you paying me or not?”

Henry Foster slammed the table and shouted, “What, you’re not satisfied? With your kind, I could get a couple of guys to grab you and toss you in the sea and no one would even look for you. And you’re glaring at me? What are you looking at! Are you waiting for me to call someone to throw you out?”

James Carter’s knuckles cracked. He really wanted to punch Henry Foster’s chubby face right then, but he knew that if he made a move, he’d be giving Ethan Brooks exactly the opportunity he was waiting for—to get him locked up.
