Chapter 8

“My uncle is so rich, there should be more things in the villa than just these. Could it be that those three girls knew my uncle had died, and since there’s no inventory of the things here, they secretly took some away?”

The more James Carter thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Looks like he needed to find a chance to check their rooms—maybe they hadn’t moved the stuff out yet and it was still in their rooms.

But then, on second thought, James Carter felt a bit deflated. Since there was no inventory of what his uncle left behind, even if he saw those things, the girls could just claim they were theirs, and there’d be nothing he could do about it.

He stayed upstairs for a while, but found it boring. Besides, there were some questions he wanted to ask those three beautiful tenants, so he went straight downstairs.

All three were in the living room, which made James Carter suspect that when he was moving things earlier, the three women had deliberately hidden from him. But now, none of the beauties were wearing the sleepwear that made James Carter’s eyes light up; instead, they were dressed in normal clothes, which left James Carter a bit disappointed. Honestly, he’d come downstairs hoping to catch a glimpse of the three beauties in their thin pajamas, looking so sexy it would make anyone’s nose bleed.

Grace Bennett gave James Carter a faint smile, exuding an elegant aura. Liam Clark playfully winked at James Carter, while Ryan Sullivan just snorted and glared at him fiercely.

Chapter 12: No Money for Property Fees, Awkward!

James Carter smiled at Grace Bennett and Liam Clark, but rolled his eyes at Ryan Sullivan. All I did was touch you a couple of times and accidentally saw something I shouldn’t have. You already beat me up pretty badly, and now you’re giving me that attitude? Don’t push me, or I’ll kick you out.

Just then, the doorbell rang. None of the three beauties moved, so James Carter had to go open the door himself. He saw a woman in her thirties, dressed in a professional suit. She was momentarily surprised to see James Carter, then politely said, “Hello, sir. I’m Olivia Carter from the property management company. May I ask if the owner is home?”

“What’s the matter?” As soon as James Carter heard she was from property management, he felt a bit nervous and didn’t immediately admit he was the owner. He’d heard that property fees in upscale communities like this were sky-high. He’d just moved in and hoped she wasn’t here to collect fees—he only had 1,500 yuan on him, which might not even be enough to pay.

“It’s like this. I heard there’s a new owner here, so I wanted to introduce myself to make future communication easier and to better serve the owner. Also... it’s time to pay the property fees, so I’m here to notify the new owner.”

Sure enough, it was about the fees. James Carter quickly shook his head and said, “The owner isn’t here, but I can pass on the message. I’ll have him go to the property office to find you later.”

Olivia Carter gave a professional smile and politely said, “Oh, thank you. But... sir, I don’t think I’ve seen you before. May I go inside and notify the three ladies renting here?”

James Carter hesitated. If he didn’t let Olivia Carter in, it would look suspicious, so he had to step aside. After Olivia Carter entered, he started signaling to the three beauties with his eyes. They must have heard what he said to Olivia Carter just now—he was hoping they’d help cover for his lie.

Olivia Carter was clearly familiar with Liam Clark and the others. As soon as she came in, she smiled and said, “You’re all home. May I ask if your new landlord has been here yet?”

“He has,” Liam Clark replied with a grin.

James Carter’s heart skipped a beat, and he kept signaling to Liam Clark.

Olivia Carter immediately asked, “Where is he? Can I have his contact information?”

All three women raised their hands at the same time, pointing straight at James Carter. He was dumbfounded. He could understand Ryan Sullivan throwing him under the bus since she had a grudge against him, but why weren’t Liam Clark and Grace Bennett helping him out at all? They exposed his lie right in front of everyone—how was he supposed to save face? He was both angry and anxious, especially since he wasn’t even sure if he had enough money to pay the property fees.

Olivia Carter was momentarily surprised, but to be a property manager in this kind of community, you had to be smooth and tactful. She quickly smiled and said, “Hello, new owner. I look forward to working with you. You’re really funny, sir—I went out of my way to look for you!”

At least Olivia Carter gave him a way out, but James Carter still blushed, coughed awkwardly, and said, “You’re not bad yourself—you’ve got a good sense of humor.”

Chapter 13: A Special Bank Card

“May I ask how I should address you, sir? We need to register the owner’s information.”

James Carter invited Olivia Carter to sit down, then sat across from her and cooperated with the registration.

After a few basic questions, Olivia Carter asked, “Mr. Carter, may I ask what your occupation is?”

“Unemployed.”

Olivia Carter wasn’t surprised at all and quickly wrote it down. Nowadays, there were plenty of second-generation officials and rich kids. People living here weren’t just bosses and high-ranking officials—some didn’t do anything at all, and some were even mistresses with houses bought for them by wealthy businessmen.
