Chapter 12

Chapter 18 Becoming an Immortal Is Not a Dream

Many novels have said it: cultivation and becoming an immortal basically don’t exist in the real world, because the pollution on Earth is too severe and the spiritual energy is too thin. In the past, James Carter just read for fun, but now this was the first thing he thought of.

But regardless of whether it would work or not, since he had gotten such a good thing, he definitely had to give it a try. James Carter began to cultivate according to the alchemy manual.

Logically speaking, James Carter had never come into contact with this kind of thing before, so it shouldn’t have been easy to get started. But strangely enough, he actually very easily sensed a warm current rising from his dantian, then slowly circulating along the meridians in his body. There was none of the difficulty he had imagined—it was as if he had already practiced it thousands of times.

“It’s actually real! I’m going to make it big!” James Carter wanted to shout with excitement, his eyebrows dancing, waving his arms and legs like a madman. Luckily, the three beautiful female tenants downstairs weren’t home at the moment, or else they would have been so scared they’d never dare to live here again.

According to the knowledge brought by the jade pendant, James Carter now knew that cultivation was definitely not easy. First, he had to train his acquired body to the innate level, and only then could he begin to cultivate step by step. Just the simplest step of going from acquired to innate would already eliminate the vast majority of people, and on the path to innate, even more would be weeded out. In the end, those who could truly become immortals were one in a million.

James Carter didn’t have grand ambitions. With this thing, as long as he could be a bit stronger than ordinary people, no matter where he went, he could show off—that was enough. As for whether he could actually become an immortal, that wasn’t important.

Suddenly, he remembered the condition William Thompson had mentioned. James Carter’s eyebrows twitched. The strange condition his uncle had left behind wasn’t without reason. Now that he had such a special ability, if he used it well, it really was possible to earn two hundred million in a year.

The most important first step now was to refine a kind of Marrow Cleansing Pill. This pill was meant to improve a person’s constitution, making them more suitable for cultivation. But looking at the ingredients for these pills, James Carter was completely at a loss. The names of these herbs were all strange and unfamiliar, like “Thousand Dragon Grass” and “Floor Dragon”—he had never even heard of them. He even searched online, but there were no related entries.

He looked at the other pill recipes, and all the listed herbs were equally bizarre—there wasn’t a single one James Carter recognized, and none could be found online.

“I get it now. Damn, these things aren’t from Earth at all, so of course the herbs don’t have Earth names. If I want to successfully refine this stuff, it’s basically a fantasy.” After being confused for a while, James Carter finally found the reason and couldn’t help feeling a bit deflated. If he had the ingredients, at least he could try making some pills, but if he couldn’t even figure out the recipes, there was no way to make them.

If he were in the world where the jade pendant originally came from, getting the jade pendant would definitely be awesome. But for him, it seemed like this thing was pretty much useless.

Chapter 19 Experiencing the Feeling of Being Rich

Shaking his head, James Carter lost even the interest to practice and flopped straight onto the comfortable big bed.

“Who cares about cultivation? There’s plenty of time for that. For now, I should just enjoy what it feels like to be rich.”

When he woke up, it was already broad daylight. He looked at the clock—it was already 7:30. James Carter immediately jumped up in a panic. He had to be at work by eight, and he was only just getting up now. That would have been unthinkable before.

He rushed into the bathroom to wash up, but while brushing his teeth, James Carter suddenly remembered he was in a villa. He froze for a moment—no wonder he got up so late today. Sleeping on such a comfortable bed, it was already impressive he hadn’t slept until noon.

But soon James Carter sped up his actions again. Even though he now had a villa worth over ten million, he couldn’t exactly eat the villa. And with the property management fees for this place being so high every month, if he didn’t work, he wouldn’t even be able to afford to live here.

As for that alchemy manual, he had only just started to understand it. Whether he could use it was still a question, and whether he could make money from it was even less certain. But this job actually paid him a salary—he definitely couldn’t quit.

After washing up, James Carter changed into a clean set of clothes and went downstairs. The house was quiet; besides him, the other three beautiful women didn’t seem to be home—probably off to school or work.

Looking at the people passing by, all dressed in fancy clothes and driving luxury cars, James Carter felt a bit out of place. Especially the way the other residents looked at him—eight or nine out of ten probably thought he was the cleaning staff here.

Feeling a bit pained, he hailed a cab and finally made it to work before eight o’clock.
