Chapter 10

However, thinking about the other three people, James Carter cooked enough for four. He had just finished and was about to call them down for dinner, only to find that the three of them were already sitting neatly at the dining table. James Carter had no idea when they had come over—it was as if they had appeared out of thin air.

Since he used their noodles, James Carter naturally needed to explain. He said, “Sorry, I saw some noodles in the fridge, so I just made them. I’ll buy more to replace them later.”

“No need to be polite, it’s just some noodles.” This time, surprisingly, it was Ryan Sullivan who spoke first.

Grace Bennett adjusted her glasses and smiled slightly, saying, “Mr. Carter, in the future, just cook enough noodles for three people. No need to make any for Miss Sullivan.”

Chapter 15: Be a More Impressive Landlord

This surprised James Carter a little, and Liam Clark giggled at this moment, saying, “The noodles and eggs were bought by Sister Bennett. Of the three of us, only she occasionally cooks something to eat.”

James Carter suddenly understood. It seemed that the relationship between Ryan Sullivan and Grace Bennett was really quite bad—just a little bit of noodles could spark an argument between them.

But one of them is a police officer and the other a teacher, so why are they so incompatible?

After serving the noodles and bringing them to the table, the three beauties immediately started eating heartily. Ryan Sullivan was wolfing down her food, and while eating, she even shot provocative glances at Grace Bennett, as if she had gained some huge advantage.

Grace Bennett ate her noodles elegantly, ignoring Ryan Sullivan’s provocation, while Liam Clark praised James Carter’s cooking skills as she ate, making James Carter feel a little proud—he never knew he was such a good cook.

James Carter also ate a big bowl of noodles. When the three of them were almost done, he cleared his throat and said, “Ladies, there’s something I’d like to discuss…”

“Sorry, I have to go on a mission.” Ryan Sullivan suddenly stood up and, in the blink of an eye, had already left the villa.

“I’m full. I need to get some exercise, or I’ll get fat.” Grace Bennett twisted her body and also left the villa, still walking with that catwalk strut, making James Carter really suspect that this woman wasn’t a teacher but a model.

Liam Clark blinked her big eyes and asked, “Brother Carter, what is it you wanted to say?”

Now that only Liam Clark was left, it wasn’t appropriate to bring up the rent, so James Carter just waved his hand and said, “It’s nothing.”

“Oh, I thought you were going to say you’d treat us to a meal to celebrate.” Liam Clark looked very disappointed, her big eyes watery as she gazed at James Carter.

James Carter almost agreed to treat them to dinner tomorrow, but luckily he swallowed the words just in time. Otherwise, he’d probably end up in debt again. He could only cough awkwardly to cover it up—after all, you can’t lose face in front of beautiful women, but you also have to consider your own wallet.

“Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go get ready for school tomorrow.” With that, she ran upstairs with a cheerful step.

“Hey, I cooked for you all—how come none of you offered to wash the dishes?” Only then did James Carter remember the matter of washing up. He shouted, but there was no sign of the three of them.

“Damn! What kind of people are these?” James Carter muttered, tossing the dishes into the sink, thinking to just leave them. But looking at the spacious and tidy kitchen, he felt it was really unsightly to leave dirty dishes there. After hesitating for a moment, he decided to wash them himself.

Still, he was quite dissatisfied with his three beautiful tenants. It seemed these three were not easy to get along with—on the very first day, he had already lost completely.

“No way! I’m a grown man, and I’m the landlord. I have to show some authority and be a more impressive landlord.” James Carter secretly resolved. Looking at the bowls used by the three beauties, he wondered if it would be perverted to kiss the spots where their lips had touched—would that count as an indirect kiss?

Chapter 16: The Mysterious Jade Pendant

Sitting on the third-floor terrace, James Carter looked down at his villa from above. The earlier bit of unhappiness had already vanished, and he was in an indescribably good mood. The land beneath his feet would be his within a year, and he would never again have to look at a landlord’s face. Going from tenant to landlord—how could the word “awesome” even begin to describe it?

But as soon as he thought about having to pay the property management fee tomorrow, James Carter’s mood dropped again. Living in a villa like this was just too expensive. The annual property fee alone was over seven thousand, not to mention electricity, water, gas, and so on. Especially the electricity—lighting up such a big house would mean a hefty bill every month. It turned out that all this enjoyment was built on a huge level of spending. With his current income, trying to enjoy life in this big villa was like letting a child fly a plane—completely impossible.

And then there was that ridiculous “make two hundred million” thing. With his abilities… it was pure fantasy. Are there still such miracles these days? Getting rich overnight—doing business just seems way too hard, unless you win the lottery. But he didn’t have that kind of luck, did he?
