Chapter 10

“Hmm, although I personally quite like puppies, the young lady said not to keep anything alive.” Old Butler said softly. With a casual toss, the five-meter-tall beast was thrown by Old Butler into the pile of assassins, causing a chorus of screams.

From beginning to end, this extremely dangerous Old Butler maintained his graceful, fluid movements.

Clapping his hands, Old Butler acted as if he had just done something trivial.

Hiss~ The black-clad assassins present all gasped. The sound of swallowing echoed everywhere. Was this guy even human?

On the other side, Grace Bennett turned around and squatted down beside Ethan Brooks, gently embracing Ethan Brooks. She didn’t care at all about the bloodstains covering Ethan Brooks.

Her slender fingers softly brushed over the wounds on Ethan Brooks’s body. Each time she touched a wound, a pained expression appeared on her beautiful face. It was as if the wounds were on Ethan Brooks, but the pain was in her heart.

This child had been frail and sickly since childhood. With such serious injuries, she couldn’t imagine how he had managed to endure.

“Sen’er.” She whispered softly into Ethan Brooks’s ear.

Perhaps reacting to the name, the unconscious Ethan Brooks moved slightly, then greedily snuggled closer into Grace Bennett’s embrace.

In his deep sleep, Ethan Brooks caught a whiff of a sweet fragrance, reminding him of the milk candies he loved as a child.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” She held the boy tightly in her arms. Her voice was very soft, extremely gentle, the kind that made one feel comforted to the core. There was a trace of guilt and self-blame in her tone: “I came too late, and let you suffer such serious injuries.”

She held him tightly, as if she would never let go again.

“Mm.” Ethan Brooks, still asleep, let out a moan. In the icy snow, he felt a bit cold. Instinctively, he squeezed toward the warmth. So Ethan Brooks snuggled even closer into Grace Bennett’s arms.

Sensing Ethan Brooks’s cold body, Grace Bennett took off her outer robe and gently wrapped it around Ethan Brooks.

While wrapping the robe around Ethan Brooks, Grace Bennett noticed the corpse of the gray-clad assassin beside him.

“What’s this?” Grace Bennett asked.

The seven silver-armored swordsmen had been standing quietly to the side, not daring to disturb Grace Bennett and the young city lord.

Upon hearing Grace Bennett’s question, the burly captain quickly replied, “That was an assassin, killed by the young city lord himself.”

“Sen’er killed him?” A trace of surprise flashed in Grace Bennett’s eyes.

“Yes, miss. You didn’t see what the young city lord looked like at the time—it was hard to believe he was the young city lord.” The burly captain licked his lips excitedly.

Grace Bennett gently stroked Ethan Brooks’s bruised forehead, feeling a bit sad.

“Miss, I’ve already taken care of the beast.” Old Butler patted his pristine white gloves. He was a bit of a clean freak—a little quirk common to all who have served as butlers, always striving for perfection.

“Thank you for your trouble, Abraham Lincoln.” Grace Bennett said softly.

“It’s my honor, miss.” Old Butler gave a slight, elegant bow. “However, miss, how should we deal with the rest of them?” He was referring, of course, to the remaining eighty or so black-clad assassins.

“I don’t want to see these people again. Keep a few alive to question them about what happened. As for the rest, I don’t want to see them anymore.” Grace Bennett said calmly. As she spoke, she seemed to have a detached view of life—except it was other people’s lives she was detached from.

“I know what to do, miss. Please leave the rest to me.” Old Butler said softly. “And, miss, whether now or in the future, please leave such dirty business as killing to me.”

“Thank you, Abraham Lincoln.” Grace Bennett said.

“It’s my honor.” With that, Old Butler turned around, his pair of black eyes glowing red as he stared at the eighty or so assassins, as if looking at eighty ants about to be crushed.

Any assassin who met Old Butler’s gaze couldn’t help but shrink back.

“Listen up, everyone.” Old Butler clapped his hands, seemingly quite satisfied with the assassins’ reactions. Then Old Butler revealed a smile that could make every noblewoman on the continent swoon: “For certain reasons, all of you must die. So please stay quiet and let me deal with you easily. What do you all think?”

Old Butler’s smile was just as captivating, but the difference was that his charm conquered countless women in the city—and countless enemies who fell in fear……………_______________________________________________________

PS: Hmm, after another chapter tonight, I want to pad the word count a bit, so I can get on the new book rankings. When the time comes, please don’t be stingy with your votes, everyone. Hehe. The little knight thanks you in advance. ^_^

P.S. Again: Since I’m a new author with a new book, there aren’t enough highlights yet, so those who haven’t been featured, don’t get discouraged, haha.

Chapter 6: The Belated Reinforcements

“He wants to kill all of us?”

“Let’s fight him!”

“Everyone, shoulder to shoulder! I don’t believe a hundred of us can’t hack this old guy to death!”

“With those old bones, if each of us takes a piece, there’ll be nothing left but real bones!”
