Chapter 13

“Enough, let’s skip the guild formalities for now. How is my child Samuel Parker?” The middle-aged man in black heavy armor waved his hand anxiously. But soon, his gaze fell upon the peerless woman holding the young boy.

“Bi Wan Ning.” The city lord Robert Parker let out a bitter smile, a smile so strained that it would remain so even across a thousand miles.

But Grace Bennett didn’t even glance at him. She simply picked up Ethan Brooks on her back, completely ignoring the black-armored man. She softly murmured to the unconscious Ethan Brooks, “Sen’er, let’s go. From now on, I will never leave your side. I won’t let anyone hurt you again. As for those who have hurt you before, I won’t let a single one of them go!” Grace Bennett’s voice was gentle, but her tone was filled with a chilling intent to kill. That bone-deep murderous aura was so strong that even the distant black-armored forbidden sword warrior could feel it.

Grace Bennett’s voice was soft, yet everyone present heard her words clearly. This strange sensation surprised all the survivors present—no one could figure out how she did it. Though she spoke in a gentle whisper, every word was heard distinctly by everyone there.

“Let’s go.” Grace Bennett hoisted Ethan Brooks onto her back and spoke to the old butler.

“As you wish, Miss.” The old butler bowed slightly, removed his pristine white gloves and tossed them to the ground, then took out a new pair from his chest and put them on. The old butler always believed that anything stained with blood was unfit to follow behind the young lady.

Ignoring everyone else present, the silver-haired woman carried the boy and turned to leave with the butler in tails.

To treat the people of the world as nothing—only a peerless woman like her and a butler so loyal could achieve such a state.

“Wait, Grace Bennett, what are you doing?” The black-armored middle-aged man called out nervously as he saw the silver-haired woman about to leave with Ethan Brooks.

“Brother-in-law. Just as you see.” The silver-haired Grace Bennett lifted her head, her jet-black eyes even darker and brighter than the night. Though she addressed the black-armored man as ‘brother-in-law’, it was clear there was not a trace of emotion in her eyes: “I’m taking Samuel Parker with me.”

The Samuel Parker she spoke of was, of course, the boy on her back.

She spoke naturally, but her voice brooked no refusal.

“No, that’s not possible.” The city lord of Fallen City, Robert Parker, refused without hesitation: “Samuel Parker is my child, he is the heir to Fallen City. I cannot let you take him away.”

“The heir to Fallen City?” Grace Bennett’s long silver hair draped over Ethan’s body on her back, so long it covered the boy completely. A gentle breeze lifted her silky hair. She said with a hint of mockery, “Didn’t you just have another son with another woman? Make that son your heir then. After all, Samuel Parker isn’t your only heir.”

“No, that’s different.” The city lord Robert Parker said loudly. He took a deep breath to steady his emotions: “Grace Bennett, I know you’re upset about the stabbing incident. It was my negligence that I didn’t protect the child today. I never expected that someone would dare do such a thing in Fallen City. I will definitely give you an explanation for this, and I promise that the only heir to Fallen City can be this child.”

“You never expected someone would dare do this in Fallen City? You’ll give me an explanation? An explanation? What can you possibly explain?! Explain how these assassins got into Fallen City? Or why your black-armored guards arrived so late?” Grace Bennett sneered coldly. “Sen’er almost lost his life just now! Brother-in-law, if Sen’er had died, what would you use to explain to me?! The whole Fallen City?”

The city lord Robert Parker could only smile bitterly, wanting to speak but unable to find the words.

“Brother-in-law, you’re a smart man, that’s why my sister was willing to marry you. Don’t play dumb with me about this. It’s obvious who did this. How many people in Fallen City have the ability to let so many assassins sneak in unnoticed? And among them, who has the motive to harm Sen’er? Not many. As far as I know, there’s only one!”

“If you really want to give me an explanation, then give me that woman’s head and her newborn child’s head. That would be the best explanation for me.” Grace Bennett’s voice was icy, with not a hint of jest.

“Grace Bennett. Don’t make wild guesses before the truth comes out. She is also my woman. Without evidence, I won’t allow anyone to harm her,” the black-armored man said sternly. “Besides, Sen’er is still fine, isn’t he?”

“Evidence?” Grace Bennett sneered. “There will be evidence. There’s no net in the world that doesn’t leak. I just want to know, why did Samuel Parker have an accident right after that woman gave birth to a son? Why did this group of people come now, not earlier or later? I was only away for a day to visit my sister’s resting place, and in less than a day after I left Samuel Parker, he was attacked? All these coincidences just happened to line up?”

“Grace Bennett, maybe you’re overthinking it.” The black-armored man sighed again. “Leave Samuel Parker here. I really will take good care of him from now on. I won’t let him get hurt again. I’ve already killed all those who harmed him.”
