Chapter 14

“No need.” Grace Bennett’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Most of these assassins were sent to meet the Reaper by me; it has nothing to do with you. The ones you killed were exactly those I wanted to interrogate for information, but you killed them all in one go. Now I even suspect you’re in a hurry to wipe out the evidence. So, to be frank, I don’t trust you, and I trust even less that the child can survive safely under that woman’s covetous gaze.”

Hearing that the ones he killed were evidence, the city lord Robert Parker’s bitter smile deepened. How was he supposed to know he’d killed the witnesses?

“What do I have to do for you to trust me?” The man in black armor stomped irritably on the snow-covered ground. “I promised your sister that this child would be the heir to Fallen City! You’ve seen it yourself—even though the child has been frail since birth and can’t become a true warrior who stands alone, I still intend for him to inherit the position. Samuel is my child, my own flesh and blood. Can you understand my love for him?”

“Brother-in-law.” Grace Bennett’s jade hand gently brushed the sleeping boy’s face on her back. “All I can say is, this position of city lord is not a blessing this child can enjoy. You’d better leave it for someone else. This place is too dangerous for both the child and me. I just want to take him away from this perilous place.”

“I won’t let you take him.” The man in black armor said firmly.

“Not let me go? Ha.” Grace Bennett’s lips once again showed that mocking smile, a smile that could topple nations. “If I want to leave, is there anyone in this world who can stop me?”

The man in black armor suddenly felt a bitterness in his heart. If she wanted to leave, he really couldn’t stop her.

His late wife’s younger sister was simply not human. For a human, fighting ten at once might be the limit, but in his sister-in-law’s eyes, numbers were just a set of data, nothing more, utterly meaningless.

Great personal strength doesn’t mean everything, but when that strength reaches an extreme—like his sister-in-law—then it does mean everything. Not to mention the equally unfathomable steward at her side.

Fallen City fears no one, but his sister-in-law fears Fallen City just as little.

“By the way, there’s one more thing. Consider it a request from me—or, of course, brother-in-law, you can take it as a threat.” Grace Bennett said calmly, as if stating something ordinary. “From now on, I ask that you never appear before me or this child again.”

“He’s my child, you can’t do this.” The demand was too much; the city lord Robert Parker was a little angry. Father and son being separated and unable to meet—he couldn’t accept such a thing. He loved his late wife, and he had transferred all that love to his eldest son. His love for this son was beyond doubt! He couldn’t accept being separated from the child.

“Not just you—especially that concubine of yours and her two children.” Grace Bennett seemed not to hear the man’s angry roar, and just continued calmly. When she mentioned that woman, Grace Bennett’s eyes flashed with murderous intent. “If, in the future, I find that woman or her children appear before Samuel or me—”

Grace Bennett paused.

“I will kill them. No matter the reason, even if it’s just a coincidence, as long as they dare to appear, they shouldn’t expect to leave alive. After all, I can’t be sure of their purpose in appearing before Sen’er. Even if it’s a coincidence, that’s a price I can’t accept.” Grace Bennett said calmly, “Brother-in-law, pass these words on to that woman. You can take them as a threat, and as a warning. Believe me, I mean what I say. Even if it’s a coincidence, I will kill them!”

“That woman’s children are also my children.” The man in black armor said bitterly. “Grace Bennett, you can’t do that!”

“Your other children—what do they have to do with me?” Grace Bennett suddenly laughed sweetly. He actually had the nerve to mention that second wife in front of her. “They’re not my sister’s children, so what do they have to do with me? ……

Chapter 8: The Threat Left by 宛凝

What does it have to do with me? Grace Bennett’s words echoed in the city lord Robert Parker’s ears.

Robert Parker gave another bitter smile. He realized that today’s bitter smiles were almost as many as in his entire life.

His late wife’s younger sister had never cared about many things. In this world, aside from his deceased wife and that child, she cared for no one else. Now that his wife was gone, the only one left in the world she cared about was the child on her back.

“One last thing. The assassination attempt on Sen’er will not be let go so easily!” Grace Bennett said coldly. “Hurting Sen’er, almost costing him his life—don’t think this matter will be settled so easily. You want evidence? I’ll find it for you, in my own way.”

In the end, the lord of the world’s most unique city, Fallen City, was unable to stop Grace Bennett from leaving with the boy. Even with all his power, he was not a god, not omnipotent. Even though Fallen City did not fear his sister-in-law’s strength, he absolutely did not dare to use that strength against her.
