Chapter 2

William Scott was already used to this: “A movie.”

“You’re lying, it’s obviously the news.” Grace Johnson mercilessly exposed him.

“You’re asking even though you already know the answer.” William Scott shook his head. “Why is Miss Johnson not sunbathing on the deck, but coming to find me instead?”

Seeing him change the subject, Grace Johnson immediately rolled her eyes in disappointment and muttered, “You’re one to talk. I’m bored to death from looking at the sea all day. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have joined this stupid cruise tour… The original plan was to observe changes in the weather and marine species, but for safety reasons, we picked this route, which is just way too calm. Of course, I’m not saying calm seas are bad, but at least a whale could show up or something…”

“Uh…” William Scott feigned surprise. “How come I heard that when David Bolton suggested this observation trip, you were the one who gave it your full support? And I think you even paid for some of their extra expenses on the ship, didn’t you, Miss Johnson?”

Even though this cruise was just a short trip along the China-Japan-Korea route, the group fee was still quite expensive.

Although William Scott’s university managed to get some discounts for the group trip by using their student status and the excuse of a field study, ordinary students still couldn’t really afford the entertainment facilities on board…

Many classmates privately gossiped that Grace Johnson came from a wealthy family, and that the reason everyone was having so much fun this time was because she secretly found the group leader David Bolton and volunteered to cover the costs for several group activities. Some even more malicious rumors claimed her family had funded a batch of lab equipment, which was why she’d been able to get into grad school.

But Grace Johnson always just laughed off such talk: “Go ahead and mock me, you schadenfreude type. Besides, you never even come to those activities, do you? And honestly, you don’t look like you’re enjoying yourself much either. We’re heading back to Shanghai tomorrow, and everyone’s making the most of their time, but you’re hiding here leeching off the WIFI… Is it because there are a lot of students from other departments, so you’re feeling shy? Now that’s news—this year’s most promising grad student in the School of Life Sciences is actually this shy…”

William Scott smiled and shook his head, about to say “It’s not like you just met me today,” when he suddenly stared at the screen and went, “Hm?”

“What’s wrong?” Grace Johnson was extremely sensitive to William Scott’s reactions when he looked at his computer, and immediately asked with a gossipy look. Just from her expression, she really didn’t seem any different from a typical female college student.

William Scott clicked the mouse a few times, then said a bit regretfully, “Nothing, just lost the internet.”

“Oh, that’s all? Unstable maritime satellite signals are pretty common… Anyway, why am I telling you this, you probably know better than I do. I don’t even get how a biology student like you is interested in so many other things.” Grace Johnson said, her tone tinged with a bit of frustration.

“Completely losing signal is a first, though…” William Scott closed the laptop, and as he turned to say something, his whole body suddenly froze.

Just a moment ago, the café had been bright and full of tourists, but now it was suddenly a scene of chaos. All the glass was shattered, the walls were battered and uneven. Blood was everywhere on the floor, but not a single person was in sight…

William Scott suddenly felt his heart clench. In the blink of an eye, the scene before him returned to normal. The sounds of tourists chatting and laughing still filled the air, and bikini-clad figures strolled leisurely through the café.

A precognitive hallucination… It was the first time he’d seen such a bloody vision, and the location was right here on this ship…

And the vision wasn’t over yet.

When William Scott looked at a couple at the next table, he was shocked to see them both covered in blood. The girl, who had just been smiling at her boyfriend, was now lying on the ground screaming, while her boyfriend lay on the other side, his fate unknown.

“Haa…” Before the scene could return to normal, William Scott quickly turned his head away, feeling completely dazed.

“What’s wrong with you?” Grace Johnson waved her hand in front of William Scott’s eyes, grinning as she asked.

William Scott slowly turned his gaze to her, his heart pounding with anxiety. Thankfully, there was no bloody vision on Grace Johnson, but in the vision, she was crying with a pale face, helplessly calling out a name: “William Scott, where are you…”

The fear in her voice made William Scott’s heart sink. He had never seen such an expression on this usually optimistic girl’s face. Even though the vision flashed by quickly, William Scott almost instinctively grabbed Grace Johnson’s hand: “It’s okay, I won’t leave you.”

Grace Johnson was stunned for a moment, then quickly pulled her hand back: “What’s with you, acting like I’m afraid you’ll leave me… Hey, what are you doing?”

She hadn’t finished speaking when she saw William Scott suddenly stand up and look out the window.
