Chapter 13

The sounds coming from the boat and the water also gave them a sense of despair, as if there was no escape.

“Wait a little longer,” William Scott said.

As he spoke, he couldn’t help but glance at his own wrist.

Strangely, the red dot had already disappeared...

“The wound is gone?” William Scott reached out and rubbed it.

Just then, ripples suddenly appeared on the surrounding water.

“It’s starting!” William Scott immediately showed a highly alert expression and said in a low voice, “Everyone, get as close to the edge of the boat as possible! And bring James Carter’s corpse over here!”

Chapter 007: Slaughter and... Observation

The way William Scott decisively killed James Carter, along with his unquestionable tone, made his words sound like commands to the others.

As soon as he finished speaking, the remaining boys forced themselves to suppress their nausea and fear, and dragged James Carter’s corpse over to their side.

The boy who had been scared out of his wits earlier also reached out, but was a step too slow.

He couldn’t help but glance at William Scott, and when he saw that William Scott hadn’t noticed, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

But when he thought of William Scott’s angry shout when saving him, and William Scott’s ruthless attack on James Carter afterwards... the boy shivered, gripped the piece of iron in his hand tighter, and his face, already pale, slowly turned a bit ashen...

“Listen, everyone. No matter what happens in a moment, you must stay close to the boat and don’t move, no matter what it is. Do you understand?” After giving this warning, William Scott glanced at the floating James Carter in front of him with little confidence. “Let’s hope this corpse can fool them...”

“Fool? Fool what?” a student’s heart skipped a beat as he asked, looking into the pitch-black water, a sense of foreboding rising within him...

For a moment, everyone felt that time was dragging on endlessly...

“William Scott, do you think we’ll be able to make it back alive?” Grace Johnson was pressed right up against William Scott. She was already dressed lightly, and now, with the cold seawater and fear, she was trembling slightly. Her thin white shirt, soaked through, had become semi-transparent, clinging to her shapely chest and outlining her beautiful but rarely revealed figure.

Yet, faced with such a beautiful sight, William Scott had no mind to appreciate it at this moment. He turned to look at her, suddenly reached out to wipe away some water droplets from her face, then tucked her wet hair behind her ear, and nodded firmly, saying, “We can. We will definitely make it back alive!”

Grace Johnson met his gaze, her eyes gradually reddening... Then she nodded hard as well. “Mm! Then if we make it back, you have to tell me your little secret!”

“Taking advantage of the situation, aren’t you? Dream on.” William Scott was momentarily stunned, then replied irritably.

Grace Johnson was taken aback, then burst out laughing. “What, is that really how you see me?”

Beside them, Emily Carter seemed to want to laugh along, but as soon as she moved her lips, tears rolled down her cheeks again.

Oh God, she was just an ordinary college girl—why did she have to encounter something like this...

Splash!

A huge splash of water suddenly interrupted her thoughts.

Accompanied by rain pouring down like a torrential storm, several students’ pupils shrank instantly, their faces turning ashen!

William Scott also felt as if his heart had been squeezed...

“Damn it, what the hell is that?!”

In the premonition, he had sensed danger lurking underwater.

But he never expected it to be like this!

Looking at the gigantic creature that appeared before him, William Scott instantly understood the meaning of that phrase.

“Absorb material, heteromorphic evolution...”

The gelatinous substance inside James Carter that had taken over his actions and thoughts was a “heteromorph.”

They enter the body of the “material,” then replace it.

From the perspective of “absorption” and “evolution,” this act of occupying the material’s body is the heteromorph’s way of survival.

Combined with the learning ability they had shown earlier, William Scott believed that replacing the “material” and constantly switching “materials” would drive the heteromorph’s evolution.

As a graduate student in the School of Life Sciences, William Scott had never heard of such a creature existing on Earth...

And “material” didn’t just refer to humans.

The term also included other living things...

“We’re not the only ones who’ve entered this area...” William Scott muttered.

“Ah!”

The tourists on the sea suddenly let out a chorus of screams.

Two gigantic “heteromorphs” suddenly emerged from the bottom of the sea, one of them appearing right in the densest part of the crowd!

“Is that... an octopus?” a man muttered in a daze, but before he could finish, a tentacle wrapped around him and flung him into the air, tearing him to pieces in an instant!

Flesh and limbs rained down, and the octopus heteromorph flung the remains “smack” into the crowd.

Several people were instantly drenched in blood. Staring at the floating remains in front of her, a girl froze, her whole body stiffening.

The intense shock had robbed her of the will to resist...
