Chapter 12

The black line appeared so quickly that everyone’s attention was on James Carter, and no one noticed what had just happened.

Even when they heard William Scott’s shout, they would only assume it was because William Scott had killed for the first time and was frightened by it.

But in reality, after that black line burrowed in, William Scott’s mind was filled only with questions and panic, and he barely felt anything about the act of killing.

……

“The door has opened…”

“Entered this world…”

“Evolution material…”

“Absorb these materials, and the aberrants can evolve once more…”

“After absorbing all the materials, this world will be useless…”

Another prophetic vision flashed before William Scott’s eyes. This time, unlike before, he not only saw the pitch-black water and the blood slowly spreading across its surface, but also heard a multitude of whispering voices.

And the tone of those voices was exactly the same as when James Carter had just called out “Student Su”…

“We’ll wait here for now.” William Scott suddenly looked up and turned to Grace Johnson and the others.

……

“Help! What is that monster?!”

“No, don’t come near me… ah!”

Tourists were constantly being knocked down as they ran. Witnessing these horrifying scenes, David Bolton and the others were filled with deep regret… If only they had listened to William Scott!

These “injured” people weren’t just problematic as he’d said—they were complete monsters!

Anyone they touched would be transformed, just like a plague!

David Bolton was trembling all over, his voice shaking as he said, “It’s… it’s unbelievable, how can such creatures exist…”

“What’s the point of saying that now! What are we supposed to do?!” a girl screamed, cutting him off.

Whoosh!

Not far away, a young woman who had just been transformed suddenly turned her head and looked at them.

“Hu…man.” the woman said, having learned two new words, “Young… people…”

She glanced over the group of college students, whose faces were drained of color from fear. A hint of satisfaction flashed in her eyes, and she suddenly charged at them.

After her transformation, the woman was clearly much faster than before. One student, reacting just a bit too slowly, was immediately grabbed.

“Help me!”

“Jump into the sea, hurry, jump!”

Another college student let out a shrill scream and was the first to leap into the sea.

David Bolton stared blankly at the bulges and writhing shapes appearing on his classmate’s face. Only when the other’s eyes shifted from despair to indifference did he snap back to his senses and jump into the sea as well.

From beginning to end, no one saved that classmate; everyone had been completely petrified with fear…

Many tourists, finding no other way out, also jumped into the sea. In just over a minute, the deck fell silent again, with only the sounds of water and cries coming from the sea.

Dozens of rotting corpses lay on the ground—they were the previous batch of injured.

The newly born monsters were clearly much more agile than them… At first, they were just learning to wave, but now they had already mastered more human behaviors.

A voluptuous girl, her face shedding flesh, picked up a volleyball from the ground. After thinking for a moment, she suddenly raised her hand and threw the volleyball.

“Bang!”

The volleyball hit the cabin ahead, leaving a shallow dent.

The girl had always known how to do this move, but this strength was something she never possessed as a normal human.

“Heh heh…” The girl’s expression stiffened for a moment, then she grinned, revealing a strange smile, and slowly pieced together a complete sentence, “I… like… this human… species… This ‘world’ that’s been opened… is nice… It’s called… Earth…”

Soon, they walked to the edge of the deck, but didn’t immediately jump into the water. Instead, they stood above, quietly watching the people in the sea.

Every move the tourists made seemed novel to them…

“Should we… also absorb them… as vessels for our aberrant kind?” the transformed middle-aged woman asked.

The crew member beside her replied, “No… no need… The human species is… quite good, but… its biological structure is too complex, for now it’s hard to fully absorb, and it collapses too quickly…” As he spoke, one of his eyeballs turned gelatinous and slid out, “We can use them… to test… another species instead…”

These beings, calling themselves “aberrants,” all nodded in agreement…

Everyone began swimming toward the island, but at the same time, some tourists who couldn’t swim, yet were collapsing, kept flailing and crying for help after jumping in.

Unfortunately, with everyone desperately trying to get away from those monsters, no one would turn back to save them.

“Student Su, aren’t we going over yet…” By the side of the ship, Emily Carter listened to the sounds around her, eyes red as she quietly asked.

James Carter’s corpse was right beside them, and the feeling was simply unbearable.
