This was, however, the first time she had spoken out this information. William Scott glanced at her in surprise, then nodded to himself. So, his guess was basically confirmed... Their collective unconsciousness might indeed be a side effect of passing through the spatial gate...
Others who saw the mist probably experienced it too, but unless they had a precognitive ability like William Scott, it would be very difficult to think of so much all at once.
“Next are the alien species, the ones that controlled the tourists,” William Scott continued. “These creatures are clearly the natives of this island—or rather, this world. Their way of greeting us is to take over our bodies, so no matter what, be wary of any creature you see, whether it looks human or not. Once you’re possessed, it’s basically the same as being dead...”
At this point, a trace of unnaturalness flashed in his eyes.
After all, he had absorbed an alien species himself—what did that make him...?
“One last thing: I know what everyone wants most right now is to go back. But before we fully understand these alien species, we have no chance.” As William Scott said this, he pressed his hand to his abdomen and stood up, looking toward the ink-black forest behind him. “So, we enter the island.”
Everyone looked over at once, and immediately felt as if countless eyes were watching them from those eerie branches...
At the same time, some images appeared before William Scott’s eyes.
Once again, a shadow suddenly lunged at him and “absorbed” him, but this time, the shadow was noticeably clearer—he could vaguely make out a human figure.
There were also scenes of numerous corpses falling to the ground, among them Grace Johnson, Emily Carter, and others.
The cruise ship sat quietly on the sea, as if there was no longer any chance of leaving...
Everyone was dead.
William Scott snapped awake, gripping the chair leg tightly.
If they’re just creatures... then there’s nothing to be afraid of!
Even alien lifeforms can be dissected for you to see!
Chapter 010: The Guest Becomes the Host
...There was still so much William Scott hadn’t said to Grace Johnson and the others.
First, the spatial gate—if it could let a cruise ship in, would it ever close?
Those alien species invaded the bodies of Earth’s creatures to evolve, which meant that the entire Earth, with its rich biodiversity, was a feast for them!
They wouldn’t give up such a delicacy easily.
Second, the existence of those two alien octopuses, and the fact that the cruise ship was dragged in, made it hard to believe that the opening of the spatial gate was just a coincidence.
These alien species—they were premeditated.
And the third, most dangerous point for William Scott and the others... Those injured people had clearly lost the ability to move after being hurt; there was no way they could have made it to the island on their own.
Which meant the alien species themselves still had mobility.
As for why they chose the injured first...
Thinking of the order in which people were absorbed and possessed, William Scott believed that, from a biological standpoint, humans were “over-nutritious” for the alien species.
Their absorption of humans wasn’t ideal, but they were slowly improving.
So at first, they targeted the wounded as a safer experiment.
“Truly highly intelligent creatures...”
William Scott reached out and touched the wound on his abdomen. It had only been a few minutes, yet the pain was already gone.
“Come to think of it, when I attacked James Carter and that octopus, neither of them showed any pain... Self-healing, resistance to blows, reduced pain sensitivity—are these some of the biological traits of the alien species?” William Scott silently added another label in his mind: a highly developed organism.
At that moment, the boy on the left, who was on alert, suddenly let out a low gasp.
Before entering the island, William Scott had just learned their names and arranged for them to scout ahead and behind.
The reason William Scott had saved them in the first place was because he was inherently somewhat kind.
But now that they were on the island, it was time for everyone to play their part.
Even Emily Carter and Grace Johnson, the two delicate girls, were watching their surroundings warily. Emily Carter was even muttering softly to herself, “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I can do this...”
“Chad Green, what is it?” William Scott quickly put down his hand and walked over.
The boy pointed at a corpse in the black grass—only the upper half remained, while the lower half had completely rotted into a blood-red gelatinous mass. “Look... look at that.”
Suppressing his disgust, William Scott crouched down and poked the gelatin with the chair leg, then glanced at the corpse’s face.
It was a fairly young woman, heavily made up—she must have been quite striking and eye-catching before. But now, all that was left was deathly stillness and horror.
“She has a wound on her chest...”
She was one of the first to be absorbed. It seemed that even when targeting the wounded, the success rate wasn’t great.
And there were no black lines coming out of her body...
“Is it because she’s been dead for a while? Or because I wasn’t the one who killed her?” William Scott wondered to himself.
