Evelyn Blake cooked two dishes and deliberately didn’t turn on the range hood, letting the aroma waft through the house early on. But William Clark still didn’t come down to eat, so in the end, Evelyn Blake had no choice but to eat by herself, then put the food in the rice cooker to keep it warm. She went upstairs to shower and sleep, thinking that since the meal was already cooked, William Clark would come down to eat when he got hungry. There was no way she would take the initiative to call him to eat.
William Clark also smelled the aroma of the food, but first, he wasn’t particularly hungry yet. Second, this was a critical moment—if he accidentally angered Evelyn Blake and she lashed out at him, that would be the end of it.
After a sleepless night, William Clark had completely solidified his star source. When he stood up, it was already ten o’clock the next morning. He felt both hungry and tired. Since he was still in the process of solidifying his star source and couldn’t cultivate, he felt especially exhausted after the whole night. But once the star source solidified and formed a star cloud, future cultivation would only make him more energetic, and he wouldn’t experience this kind of increasing fatigue.
After washing up, he figured Evelyn Blake had probably already gone to work. But strangely, he noticed that her bedroom door was left open today. He remembered that she had locked it when she left yesterday morning, and she usually did. Did she forget this time? Regardless, William Clark had no interest in checking out her room.
With a gloomy face, William Clark went downstairs, wondering where he could scrounge a meal today. He still had six Mingyan fruits left, but he couldn’t bear to eat them and had carefully stored them in his room.
He wondered if that woman at home had left any food from yesterday. Either way, William Clark went to the kitchen to check. The rice cooker was still on keep-warm mode, which made William Clark extremely excited. He hurried over and opened it, and sure enough, there was food inside.
Without hesitation, he finished off all the leftovers, and still felt like he hadn’t had enough. William Clark knew it was because his solidifying star source required a lot of food, but he was still very grateful that Evelyn Blake had thought to leave him something to eat. If Evelyn Blake were to come now and ask for a divorce, begging him to let her go, he would definitely agree without a second thought.
Chapter 005: The Door Wasn’t Locked
After washing and putting away the dishes, he casually opened the fridge to tidy up and found two boxed meals inside. He was a bit stunned—why buy boxed meals and then cook at home? Was the takeout not tasty? If it wasn’t, why bother buying it and just cook at home instead?
But William Clark didn’t bother thinking about it. Since there were two boxed meals, he could save them for when he got hungry from cultivating later in the afternoon. After tidying up, he noticed a small plastic bag nearby with half a bag of rice inside, apparently bought by Evelyn Blake yesterday. He washed all the rice and set it aside to dry.
Once everything was in order, William Clark went straight back to his room to continue cultivating. Now that his star source was solidified, the next step was to form the star cloud.
He didn’t know how much time had passed, but eventually William Clark let out a long breath. Although forming the star cloud couldn’t be accomplished in just a few days, today’s progress was significant and things were going smoothly. When he stood up, it was already past three in the afternoon. He went to the kitchen, heated up the two boxed meals, and ate them, letting out a satisfied burp.
No pressure, no attacks from other races—life was truly comfortable. But William Clark knew he still had some pressure. Even though there were no magical beasts or foreign invaders, last time William Clark had inexplicably become mentally ill, and there had to be a reason for that. Now that he had been reborn, he would never let that happen again.
From what he’d learned so far, William Clark knew that although there might not be cultivators on Earth, there were still many ancient martial arts families. They all had some martial arts and internal energy inheritance, making them far stronger than ordinary people, though they rarely appeared in public. His own The Clark Family seemed to be one such ancient martial family, but by the time it got to William Clark’s generation, there hadn’t been any truly powerful figures. Someone like William Clark, a good-for-nothing, didn’t know anything at all.
In the courtyard, William Clark practiced a set of Calming Fist. After finishing the routine, he felt much better physically. This Calming Fist was a bit like the Tai Chi he’d seen here, but he didn’t know Tai Chi yet. Maybe he’d learn it from a book when he had time, though William Clark also knew that martial arts moves in books weren’t likely to be anything special.
He left the courtyard and took a walk around the neighborhood, but everyone he met kept their distance from William Clark. Even the two security guards avoided him. William Clark gave a wry smile, not bothering with these people, and just went his own way.
Suddenly, he remembered a line from a book he’d read a few days ago: “Walk your own path, and let others have no path to walk.” It fit his current situation perfectly: “Walk your own path, and let others walk around you.”
Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but laugh out loud. There really were a lot of funny people in this world. Seeing William Clark laughing alone, the people who were already avoiding him kept even farther away.
“Big brother, why are you laughing here all by yourself?” A little girl, about five or six years old, appeared out of nowhere and looked curiously at the laughing William Clark and asked.
