Chapter 14

Evelyn Blake finished showering and came downstairs to find William Clark had actually cooked two dishes and a soup in the kitchen, and the rest of the ingredients were all neatly organized. She was secretly surprised, thinking to herself, is washing vegetables and cooking really this guy’s talent?

But looking at the steaming hot food on the table, which was also visually appealing, and with her stomach already growling with hunger, she hesitated for a moment but couldn’t be bothered to act reserved anymore. She simply picked up the bowl of rice that William Clark had served and started eating with the dishes. Seeing that Evelyn Blake had already started eating, William Clark didn’t stand on ceremony either, grabbed a bowl of rice, and began to eat quickly.

Once again, Evelyn Blake was amazed by the food cooked by William Clark—it was simply delicious. Before she knew it, she had eaten more than half of the two small plates of dishes. However, William Clark’s disgusting eating habits once again made Evelyn Blake lose her appetite for the remaining food. He was just like a pig, even making smacking noises while eating. Although she really wanted to eat a bit more, after glancing at William Clark, she put down her bowl and chopsticks and went straight upstairs to do her own things.

A trace of gloom flashed in William Clark’s eyes. Although his table manners weren’t good, he didn’t want to change. After all, he and Evelyn Blake weren’t going to be together for a lifetime, so he might as well eat the way he liked. In the future, he’d just try not to eat with her.

After finishing his meal, William Clark washed all the dishes and tidied up, then returned to his room, closed the door, and continued cultivating.

Evelyn Blake heard the sound of William Clark going upstairs and closing the door, knowing he had finished eating. Only then did she go downstairs to the kitchen. She hadn’t eaten her fill earlier and wanted to eat a bit more and then wash the dishes.

But when she opened the rice cooker, it was spotlessly clean—not a trace of food or even a drop of water left. She sighed helplessly, thinking to herself, he really does clean up thoroughly. She opened the fridge, took out a steamed bun she’d bought at noon, heated it in the microwave, took a bite, but found it tasteless and couldn’t eat any more, so she put it back. Suddenly, her face flushed—could it be that she actually wanted to eat the food cooked by William Clark?

Back in her room, Evelyn Blake found she couldn’t focus on her own things. For a while, she thought about dinner, then wondered how she managed not to get her clothes wet when she came back. After a long while, she snapped out of it, shook her head, and thought maybe she was just too tired these days. She lay down on the bed and soon fell asleep.

William Clark cultivated for four hours, then stood up. He was quite satisfied with his progress; in such a place lacking spiritual energy, he was already very happy to have this speed. It seemed he wouldn’t even need a week to form a nebula, and then he could absorb the essence of the stars at night, which would greatly accelerate his cultivation.

He went downstairs, cooked, finished his portion, and then went back upstairs to continue cultivating.

Evelyn Blake woke up feeling refreshed and comfortable. She hadn’t felt this way in a long time. Looking at the time, she realized she’d slept for over five hours. She quickly washed up and went downstairs, secretly hoping that William Clark had already cooked. Sure enough, the rice cooker in the kitchen was already warming.

As Evelyn Blake ate the delicious food, she thought to herself that this fool wasn’t completely useless after all.

Chapter 010: I’m Taking Back the Villa

For the first time, Evelyn Blake went to work in a good mood. After leaving the villa, she turned back to look at William Clark’s room and saw a black long coat hanging on the balcony to dry. She couldn’t help but sigh—he really was something, taking out such a thick coat to wear in this kind of weather. Shaking her head, she couldn’t be bothered to care about such things. As long as he didn’t cause trouble, that was already helping her.

Her car had long been repaired, but she’d kept it locked in the underground garage and hadn’t dared to use it. Although it was just a Ford Focus, it had already been smashed by William Clark twice. Now, seeing that William Clark had behaved well these past two days, she took it out and drove it straight to the company, planning to park it in the garage when she returned so William Clark wouldn’t notice. After all, William Clark had even smashed a Lamborghini into a Transformer; if he smashed her car again, it would probably be beyond repair.

As soon as Evelyn Blake reached the entrance of the HR department, she heard Little Alice, who was in charge of attendance, saying on the phone, “Ah, what happened to Manager Sullivan? Taking a week off? That serious? Oh, okay.”

“What’s up with Manager Sullivan?” Grace Foster asked after seeing Little Alice hang up.

“Manager Sullivan got caught in the rain yesterday, came down with a bad cold, and apparently has some kind of inflammation. Sounds pretty serious. He’s in the hospital now. That was his family calling to ask for a week off,” Little Alice replied.

Hearing this, Evelyn Blake couldn’t help but find it funny. She remembered that when they were buying groceries yesterday, William Clark had said something before leaving. It seemed to be, “Cold medicine works best for elderly people who suddenly catch a chill.” This guy really was a bit prescient—could it be that he brought an umbrella yesterday because he knew it would rain? But then she shook her head. How could that be possible?

These past few days had been the most pleasant week Evelyn Blake had spent. There was no John Sullivan at the company to bother her, and every night when she got home, there was always a satisfying meal waiting in the rice cooker. She didn’t even see William Clark’s shadow. If only life could always be like this. She used to eat dinner out every day, but now she could come home to a meal that suited her taste—what a treat.
