Chapter 19

Gilbert Vice Principal felt a chill in his heart: What a vicious scheme!

The freshman wilderness survival training is a test of the freshmen’s achievements after a month of enrollment. Although it’s called “wilderness survival training,” in reality, it’s led by teachers, taking students to the other, uninhabitable hemisphere to experience the harshness of interstellar survival, to witness the brutal interstellar environment and the powerful, dangerous giant beasts.

However, it was obvious that Glenn’s purpose in arranging for Henry Bennett to participate in the wilderness survival training was not so simple.

……

During the first class today, “Cultivation and Evolution” with Teacher Kate, the middle-aged female teacher walked into the classroom with a sullen face, slamming the textbook heavily onto the desk—“Bang!”

“Henry Bennett, do you know what you did yesterday?” Kate stood on the podium, shouting loudly across most of the classroom at Henry Bennett, who was sitting in the back: “You injured Gregory—the senior who came to help you all—and you hurt him badly. Do you know what a terrible impact this could have? Are you brainless or just short-circuited in the head…” If blackboards and chalk hadn’t long been phased out, Henry Bennett would probably have been buried under a pile of erasers and chalk pieces by now.

“Teacher Kate!” The angry roar of the plump, middle-aged woman was interrupted by a cold voice. A student sitting at the front right of the classroom spoke indifferently, “Trying to curry favor with Glenn here won’t get you anywhere—he can’t see it. So don’t waste everyone’s time, and save your breath. The humidity is high enough today; we don’t need you to add any more moisture.”

“Hahaha…” The classroom erupted in laughter. Henry Bennett couldn’t help but cover his mouth, secretly thinking, This guy’s mouth is as sharp as Achilles! Having been scolded by Kate so many times, he no longer took this snobbish teacher’s words to heart.

“No laughing!” Kate shouted at the students, glaring fiercely at that student, but didn’t continue to scold him. She opened her textbook and said, “Class begins!”

Henry Bennett sighed inwardly: Looks like that student’s background isn’t simple either. He talked back to Kate like that, and she didn’t even dare to respond.

The morning classes dragged on as long and boring as any other school day in countless Federation secondary schools. The school cafeteria provided lunch, so students who didn’t want to go home could eat at school.

The school cafeteria is always a hotspot for accidents.

Henry Bennett carried his tray and picked two cheap meat dishes—in this era, the most expensive food is pollution-free vegetables grown in soil, while genetically modified farmed meat is the cheapest food besides convenience meals. He found a seat, sat down with his head lowered, and started eating. Someone sat down across from him.

Henry Bennett was startled: “Sophia, have you finished being a lab rat?” Sophia giggled, “What do you mean, lab rat? I just did a few tests, and I just finished.”

Henry Bennett blushed. Ever since yesterday, when Sophia was dragged away by Bonnie, the teacher of “Alpha Energy Cultivation,” she hadn’t shown up until this morning’s class. David Clark noticed how concerned he was about Sophia, so he teased him, saying, “Your little sweetheart got taken away to be a lab rat,” which left Henry Bennett feeling embarrassed.

“But…” Sophia tilted her head and looked at him, “That doesn’t sound like something you’d say.” David Clark suddenly appeared out of nowhere, his tray piled high with all kinds of meat. It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford vegetables—he was just a total carnivore. “Of course he didn’t say it. How could Henry Bennett bear to call you a lab rat? That was me, David Clark Jr., who said it!”

Henry Bennett blushed again at being exposed. Sophia, however, was calm and poised. Taking advantage of the moment before David Clark sat down, she gently hooked her foot, sending the chair under David Clark sliding several meters away. David Clark Jr., holding his tray, landed right on the floor.

“Ouch!”

*Clatter—*

Accompanied by David Clark’s cry, the stainless steel tray crashed to the ground, and a whole plate of meat spilled onto his head. The usually suave David Clark Jr. was left in a sorry state.

Sophia covered her mouth and laughed, “Let’s see if you dare to talk nonsense again, hmph!” Hearing this, Henry Bennett couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.

“Hahaha…” Laughter erupted from the surrounding tables. David Clark stood up awkwardly, giving Sophia a “vengeful” look: “You’re ruthless! All I did was play third wheel for a bit—did you really have to go that far?” Sophia retorted angrily, “You’re still talking!”

David Clark laughed and quickly slipped away: “Alright, I’m leaving. I won’t bother you two anymore…”

As soon as he said he was leaving, David Clark was gone, leaving Henry Bennett and Sophia behind. Their eyes met, and both blushed and lowered their heads. Sophia used her fork to poke at the food on her plate, while Henry Bennett stabbed a piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth, then stabbed another piece and stuffed it in again.

Sophia watched his movements, which looked as stiff as a robot, and couldn’t help but giggle. She picked up her own tray and pushed some vegetables toward him. “You boys are all carnivores. Bonnie told me that eating more vegetables is good for your health…”

“Oh, not even married yet and you’re already doting on your husband!” That annoying voice of David Clark rang out again. He came over with another big plate of meat: “I need some healthy vegetables too…” Sophia gritted her teeth, “Go buy your own!”
