Chapter 7

William Harper didn’t try to argue and said directly, “Then just tell me how I can finish the newbie quest the fastest?”

Henry Clark giggled and said, “Thank you for trying out ‘Full-time Martial God’ for the first time. You have one card draw opportunity. Would you like to use it now?”

William Harper shrugged helplessly and said, “I want to!”

Henry Clark threw him a flirtatious glance and said softly, “Darling, I don’t want to~”

  William Harper almost lost control.

Henry Clark’s avatar was a handsome guy, but William Harper was, after all, her ex-boyfriend and knew she was a charming and coquettish girl. That tone made all the hairs on his body stand up for a moment. He complained, “There’s no way for us anymore, stop flirting with me!”

Henry Clark giggled, waved her hand lightly, and a wall turned into a giant screen displaying countless cards scrolling rapidly. She said with a bit of pride, “It’s been so many years since we last met, let me act cute to you a bit, just to relieve some life stress. Don’t be so stingy. Back then, didn’t I ask you if you were willing to leave this world with me forever? Didn’t you refuse! You said you couldn’t bear never seeing your parents again.”

William Harper was sweating all over and said, “I thought you wanted us to die together back then, of course I refused. Even if we can’t be together, I’d still wish you well, I’d never want you dead!”

Henry Clark stared at the rapidly scrolling cards on the wall and said absentmindedly, “Men are all like this, no need to explain to me… This one, and this one, this one is the best…”

She quickly picked out five cards and handed them to William Harper, saying, “Newbies can only draw five basic cards. My permissions are limited, I can only help you upgrade the quality of one card, so I’ll pick a ‘Ruffian’ level character card for you! Let me choose… White-robed Scholar! The most handsome ‘Ruffian’ level character card, consider it a little cheat I’m giving you. Then I’ll randomly match two demon cards and two special martial arts cards for you…”

William Harper had a huge complaint stuck in his throat, unable to spit it out. He really wanted to ask, “What’s with randomly matching two demons?” Henry Clark had already handed over all five cards.

Three were character cards: White-robed Scholar, Iron-backed Gray Wolf Demon, White Tiger Demon. Sure enough, two random demons… Two martial arts cards: Minor Essence Technique and Boneless Soft Fist.

William Harper took the cards and was just about to say thank you when Henry Clark gently interrupted him, “No need to thank me! I don’t want us to feel distant.”

What else could William Harper say? He could only smile wryly and accept his ex-girlfriend’s kindness.

Henry Clark waved her hand lightly, and a two-meter square light screen popped up in front of her. She swiped her hand and brought up a list, explaining to William Harper, “Character cards in ‘Full-time Martial God’ are divided into two main races and six quality levels. The two races are: Human and Demon! But for the six quality levels, only five have been developed so far: For Humans—Commoner, Ruffian, Bear-Tiger, Heroic Overlord, Demigod; for Demons—Spirit, Monster, Soldier, King, Ancestor! The highest quality character cards can’t be created in ‘Full-time Martial God’ yet.”

“The higher the quality of the character card, the stronger the physique.”

“For example, Demigod-level character cards are as strong as the legends: Meng Ben of the Warring States, who could walk through water without fearing dragons, walk on land without fearing tigers or rhinos, pull out a bull’s horn with his bare hands, and his breath could shake the heavens; Xiang Yu, who could lift mountains and had unmatched might; Li Yuanba, who surpassed the Four Symbols; Li Cunxiao, who was said to be unmatched by any king or general… that kind of level! Demon race physiques are a whole tier stronger than humans. A Demon Soldier is enough to rival a Human Heroic Overlord, and a Demon King can match a Demigod.”

William Harper gasped, not knowing what to say. Henry Clark continued, “The quality of a character card is determined by its root and bone, while the level and star rating are determined by the strongest martial arts card equipped. There are a total of ten stars and one hundred levels. You can level up by accumulating experience, but to increase star rating, you need to consume cards of the same star level, and there’s no fixed probability for how many are needed.”

“Martial arts cards are also divided into six quality levels: Basic, Unique, Inherited, Sect-defining, Peerless, and Saint!” Henry Clark swiped on the light screen and continued, “Humans are physically weak but have exquisite martial arts, while demons are strong but their martial arts are crude. Each race has its own strengths. If a human cultivates demon martial arts, they’ll reincarnate as a demon. Demons have different acupoints from humans, so if they cultivate human martial arts, they can only use sixty to seventy percent of the power. So, except for basic martial arts, most martial arts are not interchangeable between the two races and can’t be learned recklessly.” Henry Clark gave a concise introduction to the gameplay of ‘Full-time Martial God’, and, afraid William Harper would be careless, she said softly, “The Thirty-Three Heavens are extremely dangerous, so character cards were developed to let you adventure with them instead of your original body. You must promise me, no matter what, never enter the game with your original body.”

Henry Clark had used the term “original body” several times, and William Harper just went along with it. Anyway, it just meant his real body, which was easy to understand. He asked in surprise, “You can actually enter the game with your original body?”

Henry Clark widened her eyes and said, “Of course you can! You must promise me, don’t use your original body to enter the game, no matter what. If a character card dies, you just switch to another one, but if your original body dies, you’re really dead.”

William Harper smiled slightly and said, “I’ll listen to you, don’t worry!”
