The original physical qualities of this body amazed William Harper. He thought to himself, “The White-Robed Scholar’s foundation is so much better than Mrs. Thompson’s. No wonder, even though his martial arts aren’t that great, he could still kill this lady with a single punch. I wonder what level this body’s qualities are equivalent to—provincial-level athletes probably couldn’t withstand it; at the very least, it’s on par with national-level athletes!”
Without a clear benchmark for comparison, William Harper’s estimate was rather conservative. But he would soon realize just how far off his judgment was—the physical qualities of a Thug-level character card were simply incomparable to ordinary Earth humans.
Ordinary Earth people, even the strongest ones, at most only reach the level of an amateur.
The implanted character card’s operating system was very user-friendly. Even though it was his first time interacting with it, William Harper quickly got the hang of the basic operations. He discovered he had already completed his first newbie quest: chatting with the village belle Mrs. Thompson, earning fifty experience points. Unfortunately, now that Mrs. Thompson had been killed by his own hand, the next quest related to her could never be completed.
He couldn’t help but complain, “At this rate, I have no way to complete the newbie quests. Without completing them, I can’t leave this crappy game! Looks like I’ll have to switch characters... But I only have two fairies on hand—if I switch character cards, I won’t be human anymore.”
William Harper had read the introduction to the All-Profession Martial God game and knew that experience points had to be manually allocated. Of course, he wouldn’t choose the Minor Essence Technique, so he casually assigned the fifty experience points to Boneless Soft Fist.
Fifty experience points were naturally not enough to level up. Boneless Soft Fist was still at star level: ☆, level: 1/10.
Once this martial art was cultivated to one-star max level, it could provide ten martial arts points. Currently, it only provided 5.9 martial arts points, so there was still room for improvement.
William Harper didn’t pay much attention to this and continued to check the quest list. The “hidden quest” he completed—killing the village belle Mrs. Thompson—actually awarded a whopping four hundred and fifty experience points. Without much thought, William Harper allocated all this experience to Boneless Soft Fist. This time, it was enough for the skill to level up, upgrading the martial arts card to: (2/10).
With the upgrade of Boneless Soft Fist, a warm current surged through William Harper’s body. He felt noticeably lighter and more agile, his joints much more flexible. As he moved his fists and feet, there was even the sound of wind and thunder, cracking and booming with strength. He felt as if he could now kill two of Mrs. Thompson with a single punch!
Of course, William Harper quickly realized this was just an illusion.
When he checked the White-Robed Scholar’s stats, he found that after leveling up, the character’s martial arts value had only increased by 0.3 points, from 5.9 to 6.2. Such a minor increase in combat power should be negligible. He stretched for a while—sometimes feeling his martial arts had improved, sometimes feeling it was about the same as before.
William Harper mocked himself, “This game’s realism is pretty high. No wonder it’s made with alien technology. If they opened up account registration, daily revenue would easily break ten million!” He then checked the light screen and found that the “hidden quest: kill the village belle Mrs. Thompson” not only gave four hundred and fifty experience points, but also dropped a character card: “Shrew,” and unlocked a series of quests—Massacre the Village!
William Harper almost wanted to kick the light screen to pieces, cursing, “I’m not that deranged! Massacre the village? How did they even design this quest? There’s no way such an inhumane quest would pass review. How did they get it approved...” After ranting for seven or eight sentences, he suddenly remembered that this game wasn’t developed by registered Chinese citizens. It was made by a group of historically undocumented black-market developers for their own kind, so there was no need for any review at all.
This realization left him so choked up he felt a sore throat.
Just as William Harper was about to check what tricks the “Shrew” card dropped by Mrs. Thompson might have, the light screen suddenly popped up a prompt: “You have automatically shared the hidden quest: Massacre the Village! Two warriors have already responded to the call. Their locations are...” Immediately, two coordinates appeared.
The two who received the shared quest were both quick. Before William Harper could figure out how he’d even shared such an inhumane quest, he saw that the two coordinates had already entered the village. The system soon began displaying the “kill count,” and even helpfully notified him how much experience he, as the quest sharer, would receive.
“Holy crap... Are these two guys the reincarnations of Bai Qi, Huang Chao, or direct descendants of Zhang Xianzhong? How are they so fast and efficient at massacring the village?”
In just over ten minutes, the two “warriors” who responded to the call and received the shared quest had completely wiped out the entire village. Each had over a hundred lives to their name, and in the light screen’s notification area, there was even a tally of the livestock and poultry they slaughtered in the village. It truly fulfilled the saying: “Not even chickens or dogs were left! Even cockroaches were stomped to death.”
His light screen popped up another prompt: Hidden quest—Massacre the Village! has been completed. You have received a massive amount of experience points and unlocked a chain quest—Demonic Blade Inheritance! You must kill ninety-nine players who possess the Demonic Blade Inheritance quest in order to obtain the true Demonic Blade technique and embark on the path to supreme demonic power.
