Volume One: The Longest Night
Chapter One: A Real Myth
The night was as cool as water.
In the northern small city, at the northwest corner of Glaston City, on the third floor of the apprentice dormitory at the low-tier Fleming Magic Academy, in the most remote room, 309.
With a soft rustle, the blanket was thrown aside, and a thin, black-haired boy suddenly sat up. Moonlight streamed through the glass window, casting his face in a ghostly white.
He raised his thin arm and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. The terror of his nightmare still lingered in his dark eyes.
"Did I really come to the world of Ferroman? A world of darkness, dying gods, a night of blood, the brilliance of magic, saving the world—could all this be real?"
His mind was a mess, a complete mess.
His name was Luke Carter, an Earthling—at least, he was an hour ago.
An hour earlier, he had been at home playing the game "Myth."
"Myth" was the most popular virtual reality online game on Earth, depicting a tragic world gradually overtaken by dark forces. In the game, he was the number one Mage God on the entire server, the chief mage of the largest guild, Starry Dream. Right before the accident, he and his comrades were challenging the ultimate boss of the new Dark Legion expansion, the Abyssal Lord Norman Harris.
Norman Harris was a demigod-level powerhouse, one of the three mortal giants of the Dark Legion. The challenge was extremely difficult. After a grueling battle, when the boss was finally at low health and within the execution threshold, all one hundred-plus team members had fallen—only he remained standing.
At the final moment, Luke Carter activated the artifact "Sword of the Seraphim," channeling immense energy into his body and entering a brief five-second invincibility state.
In those five seconds, Luke Carter clashed head-on with the nearly berserk boss, exchanging three Death Fingers!
Death Finger.
Level 19 legendary magic.
Effect: Upon hitting the target, the spell makes a magical judgment based on the target’s physical strength, with a high chance of causing instant death!
(Players use a nerfed version, which can only be used after the boss enters the execution threshold.)
The terrifying thing about this spell is that it ignores the target’s level for the judgment—even a god can be slain if the magic check succeeds!
After three spells, both Luke Carter and the boss’s Death Fingers triggered at the same time, resulting in mutual destruction.
But strangely, after Luke Carter’s in-game body died, he didn’t revive at the graveyard outside the dungeon entrance. Instead, he entered a shadowy space.
In this space, there was a faint sphere of light, claiming to be the main god of the Radiance faction, the Lord of Radiance. In the distant world of Ferroman, the Radiance faction was on the verge of total collapse. As the main god, his power had been greatly weakened and he was on the brink of falling. He pleaded with Luke Carter to save the shattered world of Ferroman.
Such a lofty mission—Luke Carter just listened, not taking it seriously. Who would really believe it?
He thought it was just the ultimate boss kill CG animation. Having just defeated the boss and feeling proud, he absentmindedly agreed—and ended up getting tricked into this godforsaken place!
Turning to look around, by the silver moonlight, Luke Carter could vaguely make out the layout of the room.
The room was neither too big nor too small, about thirty square meters. By the window was a bookshelf with an exotic style, a chair, a single bed against the wall, and a storage nightstand by the bed—that was all.
There were three books on the shelf. Luke Carter found that he could clearly remember their titles: "General Theory of Elemental Magic," "On the Balance of the World," and "Light and Darkness." All were basic introductory books he had borrowed from the academy library.
More memories surged into Luke Carter’s mind. This body was also called Luke Carter, the youngest son of a minor lord in the southern hills of the Norton Kingdom, seventeen years old, introverted and quiet, with very average magical talent. He had been at the academy for half a year and had only learned the most basic cantrip: Mage Hand.
At the academy, he was a nobody—almost no one paid attention to him.
Of course, none of that mattered now.
Jumping out of bed, not bothering to put on shoes, Luke Carter ran a few steps to the calendar hanging by the desk. On the parchment calendar, today’s date was clearly written.
"Radiance Year 1056, October 9th."
Luke Carter drew a sharp breath. It was an ordinary day, but after today, this date would be forever remembered by all the wise beings of the world of Ferroman!
