Chapter 11

“Puff”—with a sound, the dark elf fell heavily to the ground, his body jolting violently. His eyes widened in shock, his body stiffened and tensed, and he remained motionless. After two seconds, the dark elf’s head drooped limply.

He was dead.

A half-meter-long earth spike had pierced his body; not even a legendary powerhouse could survive that.

These two earth spikes struck with stealth and speed, utterly unavoidable.

An assassin dark elf died—the entire exchange took less than a second. By the time the dark elf collapsed, his companions in the hall had only just realized what had happened.

He had never expected such an outcome. There were only a few magic apprentices in the room; he had thought it would be a simple slaughter, just like what was happening in the other rooms.

“You’re courting death!”

He gripped his anti-magic dagger and charged at Luke Carter with all his might. His running speed was extremely fast—at least 15 meters per second—making him look like a blur of shadow.

He used a combat skill: Speed Burst.

For a low-level mage, the most terrifying opponent is one wielding an anti-magic weapon and moving at lightning speed. If such an enemy gets close, it’s basically a disaster.

“Watch out!” a voice called from behind—it was Celine.

Luke Carter’s expression didn’t change at all; his eyes were full of cold indifference. He completely ignored the assassin in front of him. As the assassin began to sprint over, he summoned his magic list.

“Purchase Level 1 Spell: Vector Resistance Field.”

The spell was purchased instantly, costing 10 free points.

Vector Resistance Field

Level 1 Spell

Mana Cost: 6

Effect: Pushes away objects in the direction specified by the caster.

If a Level 0 spell is only as powerful as a large firecracker, then a Level 1 spell is truly a step into the real world of magic, possessing power that would terrify ordinary people.

When the assassin was just one meter in front of him, dagger thrusting forward and one foot just lifting off the ground, Luke Carter lightly tapped the air in front of him with his crescent wand and thought, “Now!”

Level 1 spell—cast successfully in 0.3 seconds!

The air in front of Luke Carter’s wand suddenly blurred, and a mass of semi-transparent ripples appeared, radiating outward in the direction Luke Carter was facing.

The moment the spell formed, the assassin crashed right into it—not a moment too soon or too late, the timing was perfect.

The assassin, who had been charging forward like an arrow, suddenly slammed into an invisible wall. His high-speed body came to an abrupt halt, as if time itself had stopped. After a brief instant, the force of the Vector Resistance Field peaked, and with a “bang,” the assassin’s body was violently bounced backward!

Normally, with the strength of a Level 2 elite warrior, the assassin could have forcibly resisted the repelling force of a Level 1 spell. But Luke Carter’s timing was too precise.

When the force of the resistance field exploded, the assassin had just lifted one foot, his body was off-balance, and he had no way to muster his full strength.

Magic at its strongest, against the assassin at his weakest—Level 1 spell, total victory!

Seizing the advantage, Luke Carter immediately pressed the attack. He would never give his opponent a chance to recover.

While the assassin was still airborne, Luke Carter pointed his wand lightly at him, and a Level 0 Fireball shot out, chasing after the assassin’s body.

This fireball, compressed by the wand, had its temperature greatly increased and glowed white-hot.

The assassin was formidable—even though the rebound had left him reeling, he still instinctively raised his dagger to stab at the fireball.

If this fireball had been cast by an ordinary magic apprentice, it would have been pierced and destroyed.

But the person casting this fireball had spellcasting skills far beyond the assassin’s imagination.

The incandescent fireball, like a glass bead, danced like a sprite. Its trajectory was not a straight line, but a constantly extending spiral. Even more confounding, its speed varied randomly—sometimes fast, sometimes slow—making it impossible to predict its position!

At the instant the assassin’s dagger stabbed out, the tiny fireball traced a graceful arc, deftly dodged the dagger, and struck precisely at the assassin’s eye.

As a Level 0 spell, Fireball wasn’t very powerful. Even with the wand’s amplification, if it exploded in an ordinary person’s palm, it would at most leave the hand bloody and mangled. For a physically strong dark elf assassin, it might only burst the calluses on his hand.

But if the spell exploded near a vulnerable eye, the result would be completely different.

The airborne assassin suffered just such a fate.

He wore a mask, but it only covered his mouth and nose—his eyes were exposed. Luke Carter’s fireball was incredibly fast; by the time it struck, the assassin only had time to shut his eyes. But how could fragile eyelids withstand the explosion of a fireball?

Bang—the assassin’s eye was blasted into a bloody mess. He couldn’t help but let out a miserable scream, his vision went black, and he was completely disoriented.

But the scream lasted only half a second before the assassin’s body crashed to the ground—where an earth spike was already waiting.

Tragically, the now-blind assassin never realized what had happened.

“Puff”—the earth spike pierced the assassin’s back and emerged from his chest, ending his life.
