Chapter 14

Celine whispered, “Luke Carter, are we going to save them?”

Luke Carter gently shook his head. He was powerless. Celine understood, her bright eyes flickered as she asked, “Then why did you save me?”

Luke Carter was taken aback, then replied, “We’re friends, aren’t we?”

Unexpectedly, this answer made the girl’s eyes light up: “You’re actually a pretty good friend. Can I ask you a question?”

“Go ahead.”

“How did you suddenly learn so much magic? And you use it so well?” The girl was full of curiosity.

“I… I guess you could call it divine inspiration. After I woke up, there was suddenly more stuff in my head.” Luke Carter answered after some thought.

“Oh, I see.” The girl Celine glanced around with her bright eyes and didn’t ask further. She pointed to the location of the teleportation tower and said crisply, “Then let’s go.”

The dark elf squad had already gone ahead. Luke Carter nodded and continued leading Celine forward.

They passed through a small grove, then walked along the shadows beside the Corridor of Truth for over thirty meters. Turning left, they arrived at the location of the teleportation tower.

The teleportation tower was a very expensive structure. The one in the magic academy was a small version, with a range for teleporting physical objects of no more than 10 kilometers. But even such a building cost over ten thousand gold coins, equivalent to nearly half a year’s tax revenue for the city of Greystone.

Of course, the building was expensive, but its function was significant. Its main use wasn’t for teleporting objects, but for transmitting messages. The range for message transmission was much greater—at least over five hundred kilometers—making it extremely practical.

Because of this function, the dark elves also attached great importance to it. In front of the teleportation tower, Luke Carter saw his opponents: three powerful dark elf warriors.

They were guarding the teleportation tower from being destroyed. If Luke Carter remembered correctly, before long, a dark elf mage would arrive and use the tower to send detailed intelligence to the dark elf army stationed fifty kilometers outside the city.

Among the three warriors, one was completely wrapped in anti-magic armor, not even showing his face, and held a rune shield in his hand.

Luke Carter’s pupils contracted. He recognized this warrior; in his previous life, he had encountered him during an escape mission.

His name was Giggs, the overall commander of this raid on the academy, a level 3 warrior who possessed battle aura, mastered various powerful combat techniques, and was fully equipped with anti-magic gear, making him immune to any direct attacks from magic below level 3.

In the previous game, he was known as the mage slayer. Any novice mage escaping from the magic academy to Greystone City would avoid this dark elf at all costs.

The two warriors beside him were his subordinates, also level 2 warriors. Although their equipment wasn’t as strong as Giggs’s, their anti-magic abilities were still considerable.

Right now, Luke Carter had 18 free points and 7 mana. Trying to use this power to take on three powerful dark elf warriors seemed like an impossible task.

But he had no choice.

Taking a deep breath, Luke Carter began to purchase two new level 0 spells.

The spells were quickly bought, and then he spent 3 free points to purchase 30 more maximum mana, bringing his total mana cap to 61, with 37 mana currently available. As for mana recovery speed, time was tight and it wouldn’t be useful for now, so Luke Carter didn’t add any points there.

After preparing, he still had 13 free points left.

He signaled with his eyes for Celine to keep hiding in the shadows, then Luke Carter himself stepped out from the darkness, exposing himself under the silver moonlight.

Fully focused on his opponents, Luke Carter didn’t notice the hesitant look on Celine’s face behind him. In the end, the beautiful girl chose to stay hidden in the shadows.

“Forget it, what a silly boy. I’ll help if things get bad,” the girl thought to herself.

At this moment, Luke Carter had eyes only for his opponents.

He waved his staff and called out, “Hey, you elf bastards, what are you doing?”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it was enough for the three dark elves to hear clearly. They all turned at once, their gazes locking onto Luke Carter.

Chapter 7: Who’s Playing Whom?

The sudden appearance and actions of this young human mage left Giggs feeling quite puzzled.

To be honest, tonight’s operation against the magic academy was no challenge at all. All the mages here were like hothouse flowers; their spellcasting skills were as clumsy as toddlers learning to walk.

Frankly, he was a bit disappointed.

For example, the mage guarding the teleportation tower had abundant mana and could cast powerful level 4 spells, but Giggs had killed him in just two seconds.

A charge, a shield bash, a single slash—so simple it was almost outrageous.

A mage who didn’t even know how to use magic in combat—unbelievable. In the Black Forest, such a mage wouldn’t survive a single day.

The young man before him looked no older than twenty, probably an apprentice from the academy. With mentors like that, what kind of good students could they possibly teach?

Because of this, Giggs didn’t attack right away. He snorted and sneered, “Young man, you’ve studied magic for a few days and think you’re invincible? Look at him—he’s probably been studying magic longer than you’ve been alive.”
