After purchasing the spell, Luke Carter immediately felt a familiar sense of dizziness in his mind. Once the sensation passed, he had mastered this level 0 spell.
“Silence!” Luke Carter silently recited in his heart and immediately cast the spell.
At this moment, the magical energy eruption from the teleportation tower had subsided, the light had faded, and the magic academy was once again plunged into darkness.
With Lesser Invisibility and Silence cast on himself, Luke Carter moved like a shadow, completely concealed. He stood up, carefully avoiding the streetlights, and followed the path in his memory toward the back gate of the magic academy.
As expected, the dark elf assassins didn’t notice anything unusual, and Luke Carter successfully left the magic academy.
The magic academy was built in the garden district of Greystone City, an area where the upper class congregated. Most of the influential people in the city lived here.
This also meant that the district was crawling with dark elf assassins.
But unlike the assassins inside the academy, these assassins targeted the upper-class residents of the garden district. Their objectives were clear, and they wouldn’t kill indiscriminately.
So as long as Luke Carter didn’t reveal his identity as a mage, even if discovered by these assassins, he should be safe.
At this moment, Luke Carter was extremely grateful for his initial choice. He was wearing an ordinary gray robe, and with his unremarkable appearance, as long as he hid his wand, he couldn’t look any more ordinary.
“Before news spreads from the magic academy, I should be safe. But I can’t let my guard down—I need to get as far from the academy as possible. I must leave Greystone City before the dark elf army arrives.”
Luke Carter walked quickly, and thanks to the protection of the two spells, he made it through safely without any obstacles.
……
Magic Academy, Teleportation Tower.
When Luke Carter left the magic academy, a group of dark elf assassins stood beside the ruins of the teleportation tower, looking at each other in disbelief at what had just happened.
Commander Giggs was actually dead, the teleportation tower destroyed, and their raid on the magic academy had become utterly meaningless.
“Terry, what do we do now?” a dark elf assassin asked hoarsely, looking at Terry.
Although Terry had chosen to flee when facing Luke Carter, after the commander’s death, he was now the highest-ranking dark elf present.
Terry felt extremely heavy-hearted. The teleportation tower was a key part of the army’s assault on Greystone City. If they couldn’t send back clear and timely news of the assassination’s success, Marshal Lund outside the city wouldn’t attack lightly.
If that happened, the entire battle plan could be interrupted by this accident, and every dark elf present would face severe military punishment—perhaps even execution by the furious marshal.
“I think our only option now is to avenge the commander and find that young human mage!” Terry sighed.
The dark elves exchanged glances. The same assassin spoke again: “Could he have already teleported away?”
Terry immediately shook his head. “Impossible. No one could use the teleportation array while it was collapsing—unless he wanted to die. He must have destroyed the teleportation tower and then escaped. If I’m not mistaken, he’s probably hiding in some dark corner of the academy.”
“Let’s search immediately!”
The dark elf assassins scattered at once, spreading out across the academy to search every possible hiding place.
The magic academy wasn’t large, only about three hundred meters across, with few places to hide. Nearly two hundred dark elf assassins searched every inch within thirty minutes, but found not a single trace of anyone.
Half an hour later, the assassins gathered again around the ruins of the teleportation tower.
“No sign of him. He’s escaped,” one assassin reported.
“If he got out of the academy and disguised himself, we’d never find him. Too bad we didn’t bring the Black Forest’s tracking hounds.”
Terry frowned deeply, at a complete loss.
Just then, a cold voice came from the darkness nearby: “What happened here? Why is the teleportation tower destroyed? How did Giggs end up dead?”
The dark elves turned and saw a middle-aged dark elf in a black robe with silver trim, leaning on an ebony staff as tall as himself, standing at the gate in the wall around the teleportation tower.
Behind him were two dark elf warriors in full armor—his bodyguards.
At the sight of this dark elf, the assassins immediately straightened up and said in unison, “Lord Holm.”
Holm, a level 2 battle mage and member of the Silver Moon Council, had once single-handedly fought off three elite assassins from the Kingdom of Norton, escaping unscathed and even killing one of them. This had earned him great renown.
For this raid on Greystone City, he was responsible for activating the teleportation tower and relaying accurate information to the dark elf army waiting fifty kilometers away.
To ensure his safety, he was to enter only after the magic academy had been cleared.
Now, the academy had indeed been cleared, but the crucial teleportation tower was destroyed. What was the point of him coming here now?
